Chapter 17: Complaints
Lilith groaned and leaned back in her chair, rubbing her face in frustration. Hazel blushed at the thought of having just been kissed by Lilith. To calm her nerves, she offered to open the front door.
As soon as Hazel opened the door, her eyes widened. She saw a girl who bore a striking resemblance to Lilith: the same dark brown hair and light amber eyes, but she was shorter than Lilith. Hazel moved aside to let her in. The girl smirked and looked Hazel up and down as she walked inside. Lilith stood near the couch, narrowing her eyes as she asked, "Sera, what are you doing here?"
Sera sat on the couch, crossing one leg over the other and taking a pillow in her lap. "I just came to meet my little sister before leaving, but I didn't know you had company," she said, smirking at Hazel. Hazel stood there, looking at the floor with her hands intertwined in front of her. "Well, since you have company, Professor, I'll take my leave now," she said, glancing at Lilith.
Sera's eyes widened slightly at Lilith, who nervously rubbed her ear. "And here you said I shouldn't sleep with your students while you are dating one of them," Sera remarked, clicking her tongue.
Then, she turned towards Hazel. "Oh, no need to go. I already have an idea of who you are to my sister, Miss," Sera said, rolling her eyes at Lilith. "Won't you introduce us?"
Lilith walked over to Hazel, took her hand, and guided her to the couch. "Sera, this is my girlfriend, Hazel. Hazel, this is Seraphine, my elder sister," Lilith introduced them.
Hazel looked between them, a bit flustered by Sera's admission. "Who is it?" Hazel asked, whispering.
"I don't get into introductions with my one-night stands, darling," Sera replied with a chuckle. Lilith narrowed her eyes at Sera about the nickname. Hazel then looked at Lilith, raising her eyebrow in a silent question. Lilith rocked in place and replied, "It's Adam." Hazel shook her head at Lilith.
"I told her not to chase him, but she did. It's her fault, not mine," Lilith said, almost pouting. Hazel said, "It's fine." Sera tried to stifle a laugh, biting her hand, but eventually failed miserably.
"Mighty Lilith Blackthorne, almost pleading with her girlfriend—what a sight!" Sera said, chuckling and nearly falling off the couch.
"Shut up," Lilith and Hazel said in unison, causing Sera to laugh even more.
Once Sera stopped laughing, she asked Hazel, "You know him?" Hazel replied, "He is a good friend of mine. I went to the club last night with him."
"Oh, but doesn't the club have an above-21 policy? It's not just any club," Sera said. "Well, we have contacts," Hazel said, looking down at her hands in her lap. Sera grinned at Hazel's words. Lilith pressed her fingers to her temples and asked, "Are you staying for lunch?"
"Of course!" Sera replied enthusiastically.
While Lilith cooked in the kitchen, Sera and Hazel chatted in the living room.
"So, how's my sister treating you, Hazel? If she's not being good, you can complain to me. I will bring her back on track," Sera said, winking and pointing toward Lilith.
Hazel leaned forward, as if sharing a secret. "She's good, but she gets jealous a lot." Sera chuckled at Hazel's admission. At that moment, Lilith walked over and asked, "What's so funny?"
"Nothing! Hazel was just complaining about you getting jealous," Sera replied with a grin. Lilith placed her hands on Hazel's shoulders and pulled her back to the couch, making Hazel look up at her. "Complaining about me to my sister, love? Aren't you afraid of what I might do once she leaves?" Lilith said with a smirk, her eyes never leaving Hazel's.
Hazel blushed. "It wasn't a complaint," she said.
Sera stood up and walked toward the dining table, where lunch was already set. "Okay, lovebirds, I'm hungry. Let's have lunch!" she shouted from the table.
As Lilith started toward the dining table, Hazel stopped her by gripping her wrist. Leaning close to Lilith's ear, Hazel whispered, "It wasn't a complaint, but let's see if you'll make good on your promise."
