Chapter 358: Chapter 357:The Perfect Ending

The truth is, every story must eventually come to an end but not here. What comes next is even more thrilling.

Frodo and Sam, after enduring countless trials and tribulations, finally arrived at Mount Doom. Gollum, driven mad by his lust for the Ring, launched an attack on them.

Meanwhile, Aragorn, who had concluded the Battle of Minas Tirith and earned recognition as the returning king, led the remaining human alliance to the Black Gate.

He intended to use himself as bait to draw Sauron's Eye away.

This was yet another battle no less epic than the Battle of Minas Tirith. Aragorn's pre-war speech was equally stirring.

"Brave warriors of Gondor and Rohan," Aragorn raised his sword and shouted, "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.

Maybe one day, humanity will lose its courage. We may be abandoned, utterly defeated but it is not this day.

Maybe one day, evil shall triumph over good, and the world of men will fall into ruin but it is not this day.

This day, we fight! To protect all that you hold dear in this world.

Fight to the end..."

Noel's eyes widened, his heart surging with emotion. "Classic" wasn't enough to describe this film. It deserved to be called "great."

It truly was a great film. Even Kenneth Turan, a critic known for his bias, had to admit there were few films in Hollywood that could rival this series.

What? The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather series? Sorry, they're not even in the same league.

It's hard to find a more epic film than The Lord of the Rings. If we had to name one, perhaps Ben-Hur from decades ago could compare.

But decades later, in terms of visuals and execution, The Lord of the Rings far surpassed Ben-Hur.

Thanks to Aragorn's diversion, the orcs inside the Black Gate and Sauron's Eye were all drawn away. Frodo and Sam finally made it to the edge of Mount Doom's lava.

The film followed a three-line narrative structure, gradually merging. By the time the Battle of Minas Tirith occurred, it had become two lines.

And after the Battle of the Black Gate, it became a single narrative thread, preparing to deliver the perfect conclusion to the entire saga.

At the very end, Frodo struggled, tempted by the Ring. Yet his inherent kindness pulled him back at the crucial moment.

Just then, Gollum who'd been beaten up by Sam reappeared and snatched the Ring from Frodo's hand, only to fall with it into the lava below.

At the critical moment, reliable Sam grabbed Frodo just as he was about to fall into the lava himself. The Ring, realizing all hope was lost, finally melted along with Gollum into Mount Doom's fiery depths.

This corrupting object the origin and ending of The Lord of the Rings was finally destroyed.

With the destruction of the Ring, the power of Sauron's Eye also dissipated, exploding into a violent blast of darkness that vanished between heaven and earth.

The orcs that had been besieging Aragorn's human alliance scattered like birds and beasts. Humanity had finally triumphed.

On the big screen, the people were celebrating. But due to the volcanic eruption, Zoey was worried about Frodo and Sam. Those two brave and kind hobbits please don't let them die.

Noel silently vowed that if Gilbert killed off Frodo and Sam, he'd restart the protest movement.

Of course, Gilbert wouldn't let the two brave, kind, and tenacious hobbits die just like that. At the crucial moment, Gandalf and his old friends the Great Eagles arrived and carried Frodo and Sam to safety.

Zoey couldn't help but cheer it was a happy ending.

Queen Galadriel didn't appear much in the third film. Aside from one scene midway, she only showed up again at the end.

Frodo awoke in bed and saw Queen Galadriel, along with Bilbo Baggins. Without the Ring's support, Bilbo looked noticeably older.

And of course, there were Frodo's three dear friends: Merry and Pippin, and the ever-loyal Sam.

At the film's end, in the royal square of Minas Tirith, Aragorn and Arwen were wed. Arwen decided to stay in Middle-earth and not sail away.

Frodo, Sam, and the other hobbits were honored by Aragorn and all the gathered humans.

In that moment, the small-statured hobbits seemed towering in presence.

The camera slowly zoomed in, focusing on Frodo's face. This courageous hobbit had borne a burden of unimaginable pain and duty—but he had succeeded.

Then the camera rose, showing the full splendor of Minas Tirith, eventually transforming into a name on the map.

"The story comes to a close. The Fourth Age of Middle-earth begins. As for the Fellowship of the Ring, though their friendship will last forever, each must face their own journey's end…"

Finally, the map closed it was a parchment book.

Back in the Shire, Frodo shut the book. The king had returned, and the film reached its conclusion.

The theatrical cut of the movie ended here, with a total runtime of two hours and fifty minutes.

Though scenes of Frodo and company returning to the Shire, and Bilbo Baggins setting sail with the elves, had been filmed, Gilbert planned to include those in the DVD version.

Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings theatrical version was a whopping 3 hours and 21 minutes far too long. Gilbert wasn't Peter Jackson, and there was no need to explain every detail from the novel.

Besides, those segments could enhance the DVD's appeal.

Saving thirty minutes in a single film meant The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King could be screened one or two more times a day a much more profitable decision.

At the end, the text appeared: A film by Gilbert Landrini. The lights in the cinema came on.

Yet the audience didn't stand to applaud, nor did they begin to leave as they might after other films.

Everyone remained seated, silently watching the end credits roll on the big screen.

Noel watched the scrolling credits, memorizing every cast and crew name that flashed by.

Words like "great" or "outstanding" weren't enough to describe the achievement of the Lord of the Rings team.

Noel knew this summer would be his final summer with The Lord of the Rings, and he wanted to savor every moment of this farewell.

In fact, it wasn't only Noel who felt this Noel Doug and Zoe in Los Angeles, Jack Zhao and Irene in San Francisco. Even at the premiere were various Hollywood stars who had become fans of The Lord of the Rings.

Naomi Watts held Gilbert's arm and kissed him on the cheek: "Dear, congratulations—you did something extraordinary."

Scarlett and Anne Hathaway chatted, expressing envy: "Jacqueline, I'm so envious you got to play Princess Arwen."

Anne Hathaway showed a joyful expression: "It's nothing, Scarlett your starring film Flipped is set to release this November too!"

Cameron Diaz happily did the math; she had already begun helping manage Melon Studio, thinking about how much profit the studio could earn this summer.

Although Melon Studio was co-owned by Disney and Warner, the studio maintained strong independence, with separate financial accounting.

Charlize Theron and Jennifer Connelly chatted: "This summer, that annoying guy once again dominates the summer box office."

That wasn't a criticism of Gilbert often it was a term of endearment and affection.

Jennifer Connelly covered her mouth and laughed: "Isn't it? Every year he comes like this a real headache."

Robert Iger and Doug Walter were grinning broadly.

Return of the King brought not only box office revenue, but even greater returns from merchandising and the stock market.

It was obvious that once Return of the King became a blockbuster, the stock prices of Disney and Warner Bros. would rise, and the group's annual reports would look great.

Gilbert he's practically our lucky charm! With him, performance is guaranteed every year.

Later, the relationships among directors, producers, and celebrity guests became more complicated.

Tom Cruise held Nicole Kidman's hand and said: "I envy you. To date, I've never had a lead movie exceed one billion dollars in box office."

"And you just have three at once…"

Nicole Kidman laughed and pointed ahead at Gilbert: "You'll have to thank him, Tom. We definitely need to maintain a good relationship with Gilbert."

Tom Cruise nodded: "That's essential…"

Ridley Scott could only feel the gap; of course, that didn't mean the old master was no good. Just sometimes his creativity was restricted, easily interfered with by the studios.

Ridley Scott envied Gilbert's creative environment; look how compliant Disney and Warner were acting.

Especially Warner, infamous for micromanaging films. But on Gilbert's film projects, besides providing money and people, they didn't intervene at all.

More ordinary fans were excited and felt a sense of melancholy after the movie ended.

When the final credits concluded, enthusiastic applause finally echoed in the premiere hall.

"Let's go, time for our curtain call…" Gilbert led the core team onstage to bow and thank the audience.

The applause was so intense it lasted a long time. Gilbert and the team had to bow multiple times to express gratitude for the audience's support.

Those at the early screening also applauded. Although there was no cast onstage, they still gave applause to what could be called one of the greatest film series in cinema history.

Gilbert clapped along with the fans, not caring that his hands ached from clapping.

Fans shouted, cheered, screamed they didn't think about whether the movie was over or that they should leave.

The cinema staff came to remind them it was time to leave, only to be stared down by the fans.

"Manager, what do we do?" The staff panicked they needed to clean, and the midnight show was coming up!

The manager waved his hand: "It's fine, let them celebrate! Gilbert this summer is his domain again."

After the premiere, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King immediately proceeded to its midnight screening, and tomorrow the film would officially release in North America and several European countries.

The media hailed the invincible Lord of the Rings series as finally arriving at its most glorious, most radiant finale.

All the preparation, all the hardship and fatigue, eventually found their end.

And afterward, it was time to harvest the sweet fruits.

Sometimes life doesn't go as expected; not all good deeds and efforts are rewarded.

But at least at this moment, The Lord of the Rings received the acclaim it deserved, achieving a perfect ending.
