Chapter 855: Disparity
At this point, Raul's power had already started to wane. His once-monstrous insect swarm, strengthened by essence blood, was visibly sluggish, their movements losing the ferocity they had at the start.
The time limit on his blood essence enhancement was nearing its end, and Max could see it clearly. Without a moment's pause, he pressed harder, forcing Raul onto the defensive.
Raul's heart sank. "Not good…" he thought grimly, his face paling slightly. Without hesitation, he spun around and fled, pushing every ounce of his remaining strength into escaping.
As proud as he was, he knew one thing: if he died here, to a mere peak Master Rank warrior, it would forever stain his name—a disgrace he could never wash away.
As he retreated, Raul desperately refined beast cores along the way, trying to replenish his dwindling mana reserves, but Max gave him no breathing room. Like a shadow of death, Max continued to pursue, his sword flashing again and again, driving Raul into an even more frantic flight.
One fleeing for his life and the other relentlessly giving chase, their battle carried them out of the blood-soaked lake and into the open skies beyond Mirror Moon Lake.
It was then that another figure arrived, stepping lightly onto the scene as if the chaotic battlefield belonged to him.
A young man dressed entirely in white, his handsome face carrying a calm yet imposing temperament, appeared out of thin air. His presence radiated an extraordinary aura that made the surrounding air feel heavy, as if acknowledging his superiority without question.
Who else could it be but Arnold—the prodigy ranked among the top three geniuses of the Thunder Monarch Hall, one of the strongest young experts to enter the secret domain this time?
Josh and Kevin had spoken about him before when they had tried to threaten Max, their words carrying both admiration and fear. And now, Arnold stood there in person, silently watching the fleeing Raul and the chasing Max, his expression unreadable but his eyes sharp and calculating. The atmosphere, already tense, grew even heavier.
Arnold stood still, his sharp eyes narrowing as he focused on the distant figure chasing after Raul. A flicker of recognition passed through his gaze, and he muttered to himself, "That seemed to be Max just now?"
His voice carried both surprise and curiosity. He turned his attention toward Mirror Moon Lake below, and what he saw made his expression darken instantly. The once-clear water was now completely stained blood-red, and floating across its surface were the scattered remains of Fish Lizards torn apart in battle.
His face hardened as a thought struck him. "Oh no… Did the Fire Dragon Grass get taken by the two of them?"
Arnold's reason for coming to Mirror Moon Lake had always been singular—to secure the rare Fire Dragon Grass, a priceless resource for enhancing one's fire-element techniques and increasing one's cultivation potential.
The idea that Max and Raul might have already taken it before he arrived made his heart sink slightly, and his eyes flashed coldly.
With that thought gnawing at him, Arnold immediately moved forward, his steps silent as he concealed his presence. His gaze lingered on Max's figure again, noticing something even more surprising.
Max's cultivation had already reached the peak of Master Rank, and he wasn't merely holding his own against Raul—he was hunting him down. Raul, a expert at the fourth level of Legend Rank, albeit severely injured, was struggling to survive under Max's relentless assault.
Arnold's eyes narrowed even more. He himself was one of the top three geniuses of Thunder Monarch Hall, possessing the strength of the sixth level of Legend Rank. Within this secret domain, he rarely met anyone who could threaten him, so there was no reason to be afraid.
Yet he couldn't ignore what he had heard of Max's terrifying swordsmanship. He had heard from Josh that Max had the mastered level 2 sword concept. For a brief moment, hesitation flashed across Arnold's face as he weighed the situation carefully.
Finally, he made a decision. Pulling out a golden rune etched with mysterious patterns, he tossed it into the air and quickly formed a complex hand seal. His finger shot out, pointing toward the rune, and with a sharp "swish," the rune transformed into a bird of glowing energy and shot toward the east.
This was clearly a signal, one meant to summon assistance or deliver urgent information.
With that done, Arnold inhaled deeply, suppressed his aura completely, and began to move forward with calculated precision, merging with the shadows like a hunting predator stalking its prey.
Ahead of him, the battle between Max and Raul was still raging fiercely.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The air trembled with each exchange, the sky flashing white with every sword strike as arcs of sword energy ripped apart the void.
Max's strikes were fast and relentless, his sword dancing like a storm of death. One after another, tens of sword slashes rained down on Raul, each one infused with destructive power that shook the surroundings.
Raul, on the other hand, was a shadow of his earlier self. The power he had gained from burning his essence blood was fading rapidly, and the insects that once formed his terrifying swarm were weakening and falling into dormancy, their bodies dropping away like dead leaves.
His face was pale, his breath ragged, and his legs trembled with every movement.
For the first time in this battle, Raul's eyes reflected raw panic, a look that betrayed the pride of a Void Soul Tower genius who had never imagined being hunted so ruthlessly by someone at the peak of Master Rank.
Arnold watched silently from the distance, his eyes glinting with intrigue and calculation. Max's strength was even greater than he had expected, and Raul's fear was proof enough that this was no ordinary opponent. The situation had just become far more complicated than Arnold had anticipated.
"Max, do you really want to kill me?" Raul's voice cracked as he shouted, his tone no longer arrogant but desperate, trembling under the weight of fear. His body shook slightly as he tried to force confidence into his words. "I am not only a three-star genius of the Void Soul Tower, but my master is the Fourth Elder himself! If you kill me, my master will definitely not let you go!"
