Chapter 593: Completely Drained
Early in the morning, the sky was a clear blue without a single cloud. The gentle sunlight fell like delicate threads upon the withered leaves, as if even the cold northern wind carried a hint of warmth.
After being tormented by those two clingy little girls all night, even Kaguya's stamina was starting to wear thin.
Of course, don't get the wrong idea—it wasn't what one might imagine.
Since Kaguya had come home late, and the two girls had been starving for an entire day, she had no choice but to feed them with her X liquid to make up for it.
What liquid, you ask?
Of course, it was blood. What else could it be?
But she hadn't expected those two little ones to be so ravenous. If Kaguya hadn't resolutely pushed them away, she might have ended up dying from excessive blood loss.
"How did it go yesterday?" Akira Mado approached with a smile.
Kaguya wanted to say that she had almost been sucked dry, but of course, she knew that wasn't what Akira was referring to.
Lying face down on the desk, Kaguya weakly lifted her head and sighed helplessly, "How do you think? She wouldn't even let me through the door. What a headache."
Akira Mado playfully tapped Kaguya's forehead with a fair finger, laughing. "That's what you get for being such a flirt, always attracting trouble wherever you go."
"Injustice!" Kaguya groaned. "I didn't even do anything this time, and I still got shot down."
"So, does that mean you want to do something?" Akira teased, her beautiful eyes narrowing in amusement.
"Hey, hey, what are you implying? I am a person of upright character," Kaguya declared righteously.
Yeah, right. As if you have the right to say that.
Before she could finish her defense, a familiar, grating voice echoed from behind.
"Senpai! Senpai!"
Kaguya didn't even need to look to know who it was. Sure enough, it was none other than her idiotic partner, Furuta Nimura.
Akira smiled knowingly and said, "Your partner seems... quite energetic."
"Rather than energetic, I'd say he's just an idiot," Kaguya shrugged helplessly.
"I'll be going then. Let's catch up after work." Akira flashed her a smile before turning to leave.
"Good morning, Mado-senpai!" Furuta respectfully bowed before rushing over with an eager expression. "Senpai, do you know what happened?"
"Sorry, not interested. You don't need to tell me," Kaguya replied listlessly, still suffering from the aftereffects of blood loss. Her head was spinning, and she resolved to never feed them like that again. At this rate, it wouldn't be long before she turned into a dried-up corpse.
Unfazed by Kaguya's cold attitude, Furuta continued excitedly, "I made a huge discovery! I found the secret base of the Tsukiyama family!"
"Oh... is that so?" Kaguya mumbled, still slumped over the desk, utterly lacking enthusiasm.
"Eh? Senpai, don't you want to wipe them out?" Furuta Nimura asked curiously.
"Did you report it?" Kaguya turned her head and asked.
"Yes, I did," Furuta nodded.
"Then that's that," Kaguya said impatiently. "If the higher-ups haven't decided to launch an attack, what's the rush? You're acting like a eunuch worrying more than the emperor."
"Uh... Haha, I see," Furuta chuckled awkwardly.
"Sometimes you need to use your brain more. Don't bother me with such childish things," Kaguya smirked meaningfully. "Got it?"
"Got it, Senpai." Furuta's face remained unchanged, maintaining the appearance of an eager rookie investigator.
"Alright, go get busy."
"Yes."
Once Furuta left the office, the enthusiastic smile on his face faded into a cold expression. His lips curled into a sneer. "Ah, I almost got found out. Looks like she's already wary of me. As expected of someone with such formidable strength—she can't be underestimated. Since she didn't take the bait this time, I'll just have to..."
However, what Furuta didn't know was that with Kaguya's Star Eyes, she had already seen through his every move.
"Another self-important fool," Kaguya sneered. She hoped he wouldn't go too far. He still had his uses, but if he dared to interfere with her plans, then... he would have to die.
After work, since Akira Mado still had tasks to finish, Kaguya had to head home alone. She couldn't help but feel a little lonely.
Not that she lacked company; quite the opposite—there were plenty of people, especially men, eager to accompany her home or invite her out for dinner.
But Kaguya had no interest in these guys whose ulterior motives were obvious to everyone. Besides, she wasn't into men. If it were a beautiful woman, she might consider it.
Unfortunately, female investigators at CCG were as rare as female students in an engineering program—almost nonexistent. Even the few that were around were... not exactly her type. No matter how heavy Kaguya's tastes, she couldn't bring herself to consider them.
Initially, she had planned to head straight home, but after some thought, she realized it had been a while since she'd visited the 20th Ward. Since she had nothing better to do, she decided to drop by. After all, it had been some time since she last saw Hinami.
As for the two little ingrates at home—after what they put her through last night, they could starve for a bit.
However, when Kaguya arrived at the Anteiku coffee shop, she realized that Touka Kirishima was nowhere to be found.
"Where's Touka?" Kaguya asked curiously.
"Why? Things didn't go well last night?" Kaya Irimi set down a cup of aromatic coffee in front of Kaguya, took a seat, and asked with a smile.
"Well, about that..." Kaguya looked a bit awkward.
"Let me tell you a little secret," Irimi said meaningfully. "Touka may seem cold on the outside, but inside, it's a completely different story. So, you better keep at it."
Kaguya nodded knowingly—she had figured that out long ago. Touka was just a classic tsundere.
Wait a minute... 'Keep at it'?? What was Irimi even implying?
As Kaguya walked up to the guest rooms on the second floor of the Anteiku coffee shop, she suddenly spotted a petite figure.
"Hinami?" Kaguya said in surprise.
It had been a long time since she last saw Hinami. Kaguya had thought she and her mother had moved away and no longer lived here. She didn't expect to meet her again now.
"Liuli-nee!" Hinami froze for a moment upon hearing the voice. When she turned around and saw Kaguya, her eyes lit up, and she quickly ran over.
"Long time no see, Hinami," Kaguya said with a smile, reaching out to ruffle her hair. "Looks like you've grown taller."
"Mm-hmm," Hinami nodded enthusiastically, beaming with joy. "I missed you a lot, you know."
"Where have you been lately? I haven't seen you in such a long time," Kaguya asked with a smile.
Hinami scratched her head, stuck out her tongue sheepishly, and said, "Sorry, we had to move in a hurry last time, so I didn't have a chance to tell you."
"Moved?" Kaguya asked in surprise. "Where did you move to?"
"It's not too far," Hinami blinked her bright eyes and asked, "Oh, are you here to see Touka-nee?"
"How did you know?" Kaguya was slightly taken aback.
"I know a lot of things," Hinami giggled and gave a thumbs-up. "You need to work hard!"
Kaguya flicked her forehead lightly, pretending to be annoyed. "What are you thinking about?"
Are kids these days really this smart?
And more importantly, what exactly are they thinking about? How could she know about such private matters? Would her mother, Fueguchi, approve of this?
"Did you upset Touka-nee and come to apologize?" Hinami rubbed her forehead and looked up in surprise.
Huh?
So that's it. Kaguya breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought this little girl knew everything already.
That made sense—how could a child her age possibly understand such things?
"By the way, is Touka in?" Kaguya glanced around and asked curiously.
"She's in her room," Hinami said with a worried expression. "But lately, she seems to have a lot on her mind. She doesn't look too well, and she hasn't even been eating."
Kaguya then noticed a tray placed outside Touka's door not far away. The food and coffee on it remained untouched.
"Really? I see," Kaguya nodded and smiled. "Leave it to me, okay?"
"Okay," Hinami nodded firmly, blinking her large, beautiful eyes. "Do your best!"
"Mm."
After Hinami left, Kaguya walked up to Touka's door, bent down to pick up the tray, and knocked gently.
Knock knock knock
"It's me. Open the door."
She knocked a few times, but there was no response from inside.
Kaguya was not discouraged and knocked on the door a few more times, saying, "It's me. If you're angry, take it out on me. But before that, you should eat. You don't want to worry Hinami and the others, do you?"
However, after knocking until her fingers started to ache, there was still no sign of Touka opening the door. The room remained eerily silent.
Kaguya frowned slightly, sensing that something was off. Raising her hand, a black orb appeared in her palm—her Truth-Seeking Ball. It slowly changed shape, flowing like liquid into the lock mechanism.
Click.
With a crisp sound, the door unlocked.
This required precise control—something that even Naruto, the Sage of Six Paths, or even Kaguya Ōtsutsuki from the original story couldn't accomplish. Only Kaguya, with her greatly enhanced mental abilities, could achieve such precision.
But now wasn't the time for self-praise. As she stepped inside and saw Touka lying on the bed, her eyes narrowed slightly.
She had already been worried earlier—no matter how upset one might be, shutting oneself in without a word was abnormal. Now it seemed her concerns were justified.
Touka Kirishima was sick.
Lying on the bed, her delicate face was as pale as a sheet, completely devoid of color, except for an abnormal flush on her cheeks. Her forehead was covered in beads of sweat, her body drenched, and she was breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling with difficulty.
Kaguya quickly walked over and placed her hand on Touka's forehead.
It was scorching hot.
Her pupils shrank.
Even without using a thermometer, Kaguya could tell that Touka's fever had exceeded forty degrees.
A sinking feeling settled in her heart.
Ordinarily, ghouls had an extremely strong immune system and rapid healing abilities. They shouldn't be susceptible to common illnesses, let alone develop a fever. Even under severe injuries, their bodies were usually unaffected by infections.
But Touka was burning up.
What was going on?
Kaguya could treat external wounds and severe injuries with her healing jutsu, but when it came to diseases, she was at a loss. After all, battlefield medical techniques and curing illnesses were fundamentally different.
Touka groaned in pain, her body shifting slightly. The blanket slipped off, revealing large patches of smooth, fair skin. The sheen of sweat made her body appear even more supple.
She wasn't wearing anything underneath.
Kaguya hadn't expected her to have the habit of sleeping in the nude.
But she had to admit that Touka's body proportions were near perfect—delicate curves, slender arms, shapely legs, and a full chest that seemed to fit perfectly in one's hands.
Touka let out another pained moan, pulling Kaguya out of her reverie. She quickly shook her head, driving away the inappropriate thoughts. This was not the time for such distractions—Touka was in critical condition, and she needed to focus.
However, Kaguya had no clue how to deal with this kind of illness. After all, there weren't many known diseases that could affect ghouls.
Wait a minute.
Kaguya rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
If it was that disease...
It suddenly clicked in her mind.
