Dice In The Darkness: Cthulhu Calls

Chapter 144.2 The Hacker Race: The Yis

Liu Xing chuckled and pointed to the "Electric Therapy Device" in his hand, saying, "Professor Yang, this Electric Therapy Device looks very advanced. It must be expensive. I’ll have to be careful when using it."

Professor Yang smiled and shook his head, saying, "Although I imported these Electric Therapy Devices from abroad, they’re not too pricey. The quality is excellent, and even if you were to drop it from the second floor, it wouldn’t suffer too much damage. So, Liu Xing, you don’t have to worry too much. Just use it properly."

"Understood, Professor Yang," Liu Xing nodded, putting the Electric Therapy Device back in its original place.

"By the way, Liu Xing, you can follow me later and learn how to use the Electric Therapy Device. By tomorrow, when we conduct electrotherapy, you’ll be able to use it on your own," Professor Yang said with a smile, leading Liu Xing back to the "Treatment" waiting area, chatting about this and that.

However, during this conversation, Liu Xing also gained a lot of information, such as Professor Yang’s past...

Over a decade ago, after graduating from a medical school, Professor Yang started working at a rural health clinic and got married, having a son named Yang Kong the following year.

Although Professor Yang’s life after marriage was somewhat impoverished, it was quite happy. However, happy days are fleeting.

When Yang Kong was about to start elementary school, Professor Yang’s wife wanted him to attend school in the County Town, but Yang Kong would have to pay a school selection fee, which although not exorbitant, was a significant burden for Professor Yang. Therefore, Professor Yang refused his wife’s idea.

As a result, a conflict erupted, and Professor Yang’s wife felt that he didn’t care about their son, not even willing to spend that amount of money. She chose to take their son and leave Professor Yang, moving to the County Town, while Professor Yang, being stubborn, stayed in the rural town to continue practicing medicine.

The separation between Professor Yang and his wife lasted for over a decade, with his wife only bringing Yang Kong back to visit during holidays. This was a crucial reason for the poor relationship between Professor Yang and Yang Kong.

Two years ago, an unexpected event occurred.

Professor Yang’s wife was involved in a car accident in the County Town and died on the spot. Professor Yang’s mental state collapsed instantly, and he wanted to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills. However, since the lethal dose of the pills was high, Professor Yang only had a good sleep after taking a bottle of them.

However, at this time, Professor Yang suddenly came to a realization, feeling that he couldn’t die yet, as he still had to take care of Yang Kong. So, Professor Yang gave up on suicide and moved to the County Town to care for Yang Kong.

However, due to Professor Yang’s limited education, he couldn’t find a suitable job in the County Town, making his life quite difficult. But then, he heard about a term - "internet addiction."

Professor Yang immediately saw a business opportunity, thinking that opening an internet addiction treatment center would definitely be profitable. So, he mortgaged his house to the bank, took out a loan, and established the center. He even invented the "Enlightenment" electrotherapy method to treat internet-addicted teenagers.

As a result, Professor Yang became very successful, and he told Liu Xing that many parents were now eager to send him money, saying that he could count his money with a machine.

However, Professor Yang still had a worry - his son Yang Kong refused to call him "dad" and even didn’t want to eat with him at the same table.

So, Professor Yang asked Liu Xing to help persuade Yang Kong.

After listening to Professor Yang’s story, Liu Xing was confused, as this didn’t match the expected plot at all!

But Liu Xing was now certain that Professor Yang’s true identity was actually that of the great Yis People, a superior race in the Cthulhu Mythos, known for their ability to exchange spiritual consciousness with other beings across time, gaining eternal life and infinite knowledge. In simple terms, the Yis People could possess the bodies of other creatures, earning them the nickname "body-snatchers."

According to the Necronomicon and the Eltdown Shards, about 480 million years ago, the Yis People crossed the galaxy from their destroyed world, Yis, to Earth, exchanging consciousness with the native species to gain the ability to act on Earth.

The Yis People’s physical form before coming to Earth was unknown. The host they chose was a 10-foot-tall, cone-shaped creature that lived in what is now Australia. It moved using its adhesive layer on the bottom and had sensory organs on the ends of its four long limbs. Two of the limbs ended in massive claws, which were used for communication by colliding and rubbing against each other. The third limb had a funnel-shaped organ, and the fourth connected to a sphere with three eyes, about two feet in diameter - the most well-known form of the Yis People.

However, after about 200 million years of prosperity on Earth, the Yis People were sealed away by the blind ones who escaped from the underground city, destroying the "great race’s" civilization. But the Yis People had foreseen this and began preparing for a mass migration from the late Mesozoic era, transferring their consciousness to a dominant species, a resilient insect-like creature, about 20,000 years after humanity’s extinction.

So, the Yis People, who could travel through time and possess other beings, were almost invincible. Now, Professor Yang, who had been possessed by the Yis People while taking sleeping pills, was a concern for Liu Xing. But what puzzled Liu Xing was why the Yis People, who possessed Professor Yang, cared so much about Yang Kong?

Just as Liu Xing was thinking about this, a middle-aged man, accompanied by about ten internet-addicted teenagers, walked into Treatment Room 1.
