Chapter 19: Outside the Cavern
-How was it called again? Kuma…
-Kuma Kuma no mi. Model grizzly bear. – Ragnar says to his inquisitive Captain.
-And how do you know that? – Verona asks in succession.
-I don't know. It just popped into my head when I ate the fruit. – Ragnar responds scratching his head.
-How nice of it to tell you its name. – Duros comments.
After acquiring the powers of the Devil Fruit, Ragnar and the rest of the group start to walk back to the entrance of the cavern.
-Do you know the name of your fruit, Pearl? – Verona asks.
Pearl is still processing the new information that was presented to her. She feels better now knowing that her "curse" is something real and tangible that can happen to anyone. And she feels a lot more comfortable having the company of someone like her. Even though Ragnar isn't the easiest person to talk to when it comes to her.
She now feels less of a freak of nature and more like a semi-normal person.
-I told you guys a hundred times before. I've been like this since I was a baby. Do you guys remember anything when you were babies? – She says with her usual, annoying tone.
-Fair enough. – Verona responds with a shrug.
They finally reach the entrance of the cavern. William goes to probe the rope they used to get in to see if Atom did anything to it.
-Well, he left the rope for us. That was nice of him I guess… – William says as he pulls the rope slightly – Alright guy, I don't know if that guy is still up there waiting for us. So stay alert and ready to fight.
-Especially if he tells the giant that we killed his pet bear. – Verona comments.
Almost all of them have forgotten about the giant. Maybe they could use Ragnar as a decoy to turn the giant back to their side.
A big smile forms on Ragnar's face. He's itching to test his new power on a real opponent.
It was quite hard to get Ragnar and Pearl on the rope thanks to their water weakness. But after some time, they finally manage to get out of the cave. Spending too much time on land is suffocating for a pirate, imagine being inside a cave for a day.
Fortunately, the snow is all gone by now. Revealing what's supposed to be a bare grassland. What can also be considered a good thing; is the sight of the giant lying dead on the ground. Upon closer inspection, they can see a hole on his chest that goes straight through his body.
This doesn't appear to be Atom's work. It is way too clean considering how destructive his explosives are and Atom himself is nowhere to be seen either.
-Crew. – William says while looking at the giant corpse in front of him – I think we should make this island a distant memory…
Everyone nods silently in agreement as they remember all that happened here on this small island.
