Chapter 29: CHAPTER 29: The Plan to Escape
Aella stuck her head out of the door as she peeked into the darkness just as she had done last night.
The hall was quiet and so tranquil that it was like she was the only creature here.
To make sure she wasn't being watched again, Aella took out the compass and hovered her hand in the air.
With a deep breath, she released all power in her grip.
The golden object dropped to the floor and it resounded around the walls of the hallway, creating a deafening sound. Then she waited with bated breath.
'Bane, Bane, where are you?'
Her ears strained to listen if she would hear any incoming footsteps from Bane, but she heard nothing.
To further confirm he wasn't coming, she counted up to fifty sheep with her fingers but she still saw no presence.
This could only mean one thing. He was asleep and this was her only chance to escape.
'Now is my only chance,'
Aella held her sword closely to her side as she took cautious steps away from the room in which she had been kept since her fever.
She didn't close the door so it would be easy for her to locate it if the need arises.
She was placing all hopes on this mission and she might even lose her life tonight if it went wrong.
Her guard was still up while she sauntered down the bleak hallway as she rested her hand on the wall to help navigate her way.
Her breath was caught in her throat and she tried to move as quickly as she could before Bane would wake up and find her.
She got to the first corner and turned right away, heading for the room as he had informed her earlier today.
Aella didn't sleep a wink as she waited for the perfect opportunity to strike.
It was deep into the night and every creature should be asleep by now, that included the demon's slave as well.
She was finally going to get out of here, then, she will return to slay the monster when she had regained her strength.
'Father, I am coming home soon,' she smiled in her head just as she rounded another corner.
Aella began to count her steps as she walked so she would know when she got to the room which was directly opposite hers.
She had counted twenty-seven steps to the first corner in her room and she would use that to get to the room Bane resided.
Barely escaping knocking down a vase on the table, Aella stood frozen for a while to listen to her surroundings.
Dead silent. No one was awake.
She began her trail again, this time, counting to twenty. When she reached the twenty-seventh step, her hand felt the hard surface of an oak wooden door just like the one in the room she had left minutes ago.
A small smile escaped her lips as her calculations had been accurate.
With a desperate prayer in her mind, Aella grabbed the doorknob and twisted it slowly, not wanting to make a disruptive noise.
Her heart nearly jolted out of her chest with happiness when the door pushed open to bring out a gush of air.
She was so relieved it wasn't locked.
After opening it sizably, she slipped into the compartment and pressed the door back to the hinges gently.
As she turned around, Aella stood by the door and looked at the room she had gotten into.
It was similar to the one she had been kept in for the two days she remembered, with the limited pieces of furniture being only the bed and a chair by the corner of the room.
The candle holders which were placed at the four edges were surprisingly lit.
She swallowed hard when she saw a still figure on the bed.
The chest of the individual rose in a rhythmic order which told her the one thing she needed to know.
Bane was sound asleep.
Strangely, his head was facing her directly as he lay opposite of the bed but Aella didn't think much about it.
This was her only chance of getting away from her and she had no plans to ruin it.
With her bare feet touching the cold ground, Aella moved into the room and tried her best not to make any heavy steps or even breath too fast.
She had already unsheathed her sword before leaving the room so it would be easy when she wanted to strike.
She planned to wound Bane up to the point he wouldn't be able to run after her when she escaped.
She didn't have the courage to kill a human just like her so she was only going to injure him to render him unmovable.
She knew she was being treacherous after he had not only fed and clothed her but also nursed her back to health but this was the only way out of her.
She didn't even know his motive behind the kind gestures so she couldn't trust him fully. She had to do anything she could to have herself.
She would not be devoured by his vicious Master.
Aella got close to the bed as Bane's face came into view. She halted a bit to take a better look at her male on the bed.
His long black strands had mixed in with the black sheets on the bed that she could barely see sprawled all over the mattress.
With his discerning golden orbs out of sight, she could stare at him properly without looking away from shyness.
He had a straight and pointed nose which was in the middle of his face and on top of his luscious lips.
The moonlight coming from the open window glowed on his face, casting him with a celestial beam.
She clenched her hands around the hilt of the sword as she raised it in the air and stared down at him.
As she was at the face of the battle, hesitation gripped her tightly and Aella tried to fight against it.
She had to do this to leave here and get back to her family. The thought of her ill father pushed her resolve.
'I have to do this for my family,' she murmured in her head and her gaze turned hard with determination.
Just as she was about to plunge the blade into him, the sparkling golden eyes shot open and settled on her shocked face.
"You seem to be hesitating," Bane's cool voice rang into the deadly silence.
