Chapter Two; Seeker Trials



Mary had been a long-time friend of Tango’s so Jazmel was not surprised she offered to take him in. She was not known to be friendly, but the years he had spent with Tango let him know she did indeed care.

“Stay tonight and tomorrow we will go to the Labyrinth gate, and I will ask for help about Tango.” She said and entering her small apartment she sat him on the sofa and entering her room, she came back with a single sheet and pillow.

“Tomorrow, I must oversee the Seeker trials. Once that is done, we can seek out help.” She explained and his ears pricked at this.

The Seeker trials happened every year where those who turned sixteen were allowed to enter the labyrinth and try their luck at the quests and their rewards. For some reason, the system would not allow anyone who was below sixteen to enter their gates. It was like a force barred them from entry. But anyone above sixteen was allowed access, and so it had become a tradition; a ceremony of sorts. For people to enter the library and

“I am sixteen.” He said, only that was enough, and he saw her squint at him.

“No!” she said, and he sighed.

“Tango and I spoke about it! He said I could!!” he countered.

“We can ask him when I find him!” she shouted back.

“So, while you look for him, what will I do? I do not even have a home!!” he snarled. She pinched her nose bridge and sighed.

“I cannot in good faith agree to this.” She spoke.

“You don’t have to, just don’t hinder me.” He said and she sighed again.

“I will not help you tomorrow. You are on your own.” She said and he smiled in victory.

“The trials tomorrow will be dangerous. You will need your wits about you.” She left him and sauntered into her own room.
