Chapter 41 Shocking the Great Powers
At this moment outside, the place was abuzz with voices, densely packed beings stood around the perimeter, craning their necks in eager anticipation, wanting to know exactly what was happening inside.
The Great Powers of the top factions were also speculating which of them could emerge as the preeminent leader of this battle for supremacy, to summit the pinnacle of a realm and achieve the strongest title among the young generation.
"This Cave Heaven originates from the last great era and contains many things worth exploring. The heritage inside must also be extraordinary, it all depends on who can suppress the enemies and seize various fortunes and opportunities inside," said an elder of a holy ground, also a figure amongst the Great Powers.
"This competition is indeed very much worth paying attention to, especially the battles between those monstrous geniuses of the younger generation."
Several other elders nodded in agreement.
Clearly, their focus was on the holy sons and the prodigies of different races who had entered in the first few batches.
As for the last group to enter, in everyone's eyes, they were just "cannon fodder," only entering to fatten the numbers or to be sacrificial pieces used for the top holy grounds and sects to scout ahead.
This was an unspoken understanding among the top factions; otherwise, why would they be so generous as to give out so many spots to outsiders?
"Of course, it's not really our fault; it's mainly because those cannon fodder are way too overconfident," remarked an elder from the Vault of Sky Sword Sect with chilling indifference.
The elders of the Red Cloud Sect, standing off to the side, felt relieved, grateful that they had spent a huge price to buy three amulets for protection from the Heavenly Mysterious Imperial Dynasty. With these, their disciples could have a decent chance of gaining some opportunities inside.
Moreover, before entering, they had instructed their disciples not to take risks on their own but to let those without any significant backing do so, allowing them to gain benefits like a fisherman reaping the rewards, thus preserving themselves.
"Eh, someone's coming out?"
Just then, the people saw flashes of light in front of the spatial portal and three figures emerged.
The crowd was very curious, with even the Great Powers turning their gaze in that direction.
"It seems to be people from the Red Cloud Sect?" Someone recognized the three Cave Heaven Realm cultivators.
Thanks to the protective amulet, their previously severe wounds that were nearly fatal had healed, and now upon returning to the outside world, they were still immersed in fear of Gu Chen, unable to extricate themselves, their expressions filled with dread.
"It seems very likely that they encountered some sort of perilous area and were even shaken to the core," an elder surmised aloud.
Those who could stand guard by the portal in this place were either Great Powers who had reached the Heavenly realm or top contenders in the Earth realm; the rest didn't have the right to stand here.
"What happened?" asked a top contender of the Earth realm from the Red Cloud Sect, furrowing his brows.
Amulets for protection were not numerous, and the Red Cloud Sect had paid a steep price to acquire them, only obtaining three in total. If they had gone inside and gained nothing, it would be a huge loss.
Hearing their elder's voice, the three figures jolted back to reality, their voices somewhat bewildered, "We almost died."
The Red Cloud Sect's top Earth realm elder frowned and asked, "What did you go through, what sort of danger did you encounter?"
At these words, the three Cave Heaven Realm cultivators looked uncomfortable as they shook their heads with one hesitating before saying, "We were slain by a young powerhouse."
"Hmm?"
Upon hearing this, many elder-level figures perked up and looked towards the three people from the Red Cloud Sect.
Simultaneously, elders from other top Da Sects internally shook their heads, feeling that the three Cave Heaven Realm cultivators of the Red Cloud Sect had overestimated themselves,
The Red Cloud Sect elder said angrily, "Didn't I tell you before you went in not to overreach yourselves? Which peerless genius or monster did you provoke? Was it from a holy ground, or was it from the Tiankui Clan, the Blood Orchid Clan, or some other foreign race?"
At this point, everyone grew interested and started listening more attentively.
"None of those," the trio shook their heads, finding it somewhat difficult to speak.
After all, it was a truly embarrassing matter. What they had considered mere cannon fodder turned out to be a colossal crocodile that had devoured them all.
Looking back, their previous pretense was as ridiculous as could be.
"Speak!"
The elder from the Red Cloud Sect was furious, and everyone there was extremely curious and wanted to know the truth.
"It was an unknown young powerhouse, not from any mighty factions like a holy ground," they finally said under pressure, revealing the course of events.
"What?!"
Upon hearing that it was one of the "cannon fodder" from the last batch who had killed their members, the Red Cloud Sect elder was stunned.
"Of the people we sent in, except for us three, all are dead..." the three Cave Heaven Realm cultivators cautiously said.
Boom!
All at once, it struck like a bolt from the blue, thunder on a clear day, a hammer blow to the heart of the Red Cloud Sect elder, causing him to tremble and go pale.
"All... all dead?" His lips quivered and his eyes widened in disbelief.
One must understand that those who had entered were the heroic young of the Red Cloud Sect, representatives of their future!
Initially, the death of their strongest young successor, Luo Shengming, in the lower realm had already devastated the Red Cloud Sect, a major blow to their spirits.
Barely coping with that, they had awaited the emergence of this Cave Heaven in hopes of sending their disciples under a hundred years old in search of opportunities to mitigate the loss and prevent a gap in their lineage.
