Chapter 12: Strange Dreams and Minor Matters in the Early Morning
In a space of pure white, Zavia stood with a puzzled expression, glancing around. He kept looking around, wanting to find something in this endless expanse of white, but aside from the never-ending whiteness, there was nothing else.
Feeling a bit panicked, Zavia started running in a random direction, moving faster and faster.
Huff- Huff-
He didn't know how long he had been running, but Zavia was starting to pant. He actually felt tired! This was the first time he had felt fatigue since transmigrating!
But Zavia did not stop because of this. He kept on running and running, towards that direction with no end in sight.
Crack- Crack- Clatter
Suddenly, cracks started appearing in the white space around him, making sounds resembling breaking glass. Zavia had no choice but to stop, looking around in panic. As the cracks grew bigger, the white space finally shattered completely.
Zavia's body started falling. Unable to do anything against gravity, he could only yell as he plunged downwards.
After the white space broke, the surroundings started changing drastically. Flame-like crimson appeared around him, the heat constantly scorching Zavia's back.
Zavia opened his frightened eyes. The icy blue pupils were no longer as cold and indifferent as before, replaced by unease and panic.
Before Zavia, a beautiful woman with golden hair suddenly appeared. Her looks were like a fairy descended from the heavens, extremely gorgeous and charming.
That should have been the case, but right now there were some wrinkles on her face. The beautiful visage was no longer as youthful as before.
She placed her hands on Zavia's shoulders, her face full of panic. Her mouth seemed to be saying something, but Zavia couldn't make it out.
When the woman finished speaking, she kissed Zavia's forehead before closing the wooden doors on both sides and hurriedly running off.
Feeling fearful, Zavia didn't know what to say. He also couldn't speak, only watching through the cracks in the wooden door as the woman gradually left.
But in the next moment, agonized screams came from the woman. The surroundings started collapsing as flames raged, incinerating everything.
After that, Zavia's vision darkened until he was plunged into darkness...

"Hah! Hah– Hah–!"
Reality, Pirate World, Zavia lying in bed suddenly opened his eyes. The icy blue pupils were no longer as calm and indifferent as before, but rather anxious and panicky.
He swiftly sat up, right hand clutching his head as he panted nonstop.
"So it was... just a dream?"
He looked around. The dark surroundings weren't pitch black. The reason was the silvery white moonlight coming in through the window.
It was currently early morning, deep in the night. The silvery moonlight coming through the windows fell onto the floor, forming a wonderful hue.
The table had all sorts of learning materials related to introducing places and common knowledge about the Pirate World. There was also info on large animals and medicinal plants...
These items were things Zavia got Robbie to bring over from the library. Needless to say, common sense couldn't be used to think about the Pirate World. But there were still some fundamentals that had to be understood.
Recalling how he had Robbie get these items after ending his meditation, chatting with them while reading the books until the patrol came to notify them to sleep.
Zavia got out of bed, unable to fall back asleep because of that dream. He went to the window to gaze at the moon, staring at it.
"This dream... wasn't it the scene of Eva hiding Dante when V and his family got discovered by demons?"
Zavia murmured to himself, recalling the dream he just had. This scene would be known to anyone who played or watched DMC5 videos.
After Eva hid Dante, she immediately went to look for Vergil but soon met a demon attack, dying to it.
At the same time, Vergil was standing outside the house stupefied as he watched the entire building get incinerated. Due to a moment of absentmindedness, a demon pierced through his body.
In the 'darkness', Vergil started screaming for help but no so-called 'god' answered him. In despair, Vergil started desiring power and summoned the Yamato, slaughtering all the demons attacking him.
Afterwards, Vergil looked again at the house in flames and believed his mother and brother had perished to the fires. He resolutely left, thinking it was because he lacked power which led to his family's cruel end. Thus he pursued power more and more desperately, by any means...
But had Vergil never blamed or hated anyone? Had he really never resented anything? If someone rushed out at that time to save him, giving him a sense of security and protection, might Present Vergil have had a different mentality when meeting Dante? The answer... only Vergil himself would know.
…
"Could it be because of..."
At this time, Zavia faintly had a guess but he wasn't certain. After all, the basis for this guess came from his own imagination.
"If that's really the case, doesn't that make me..."
Zavia's expression grew increasingly odd. Although this was just speculation on his part, he felt there was a possibility it might be as he imagined.
"No, it should still just be me overthinking things. If that was really the case..."
After carefully considering it, although Zavia felt it wasn't impossible, he still clung to that tiny bit of luck that it was unlikely. He lightly shook his head, clearing those thoughts.
He looked back at the three soundly sleeping and somehow felt no more desire to sleep, perhaps because of that dream.
Spatial power activated as Zavia's figure started flickering. Bathed under the silvery moonlight, it seemed extremely bizarre. The next second, his surroundings changed as he was transported from indoors to outdoors.
He walked to the edge within visible range, looking down from high to low at the scene before him. This was the top level of the dorm building Zavia was staying at. Normally students were prohibited from coming up here.
Within visible range, everything seemed so tranquil and peaceful. The silvery moonlight shrouded this island called Marinford, making the buildings glow magnificently. It was extremely beautiful.
"Hmph, who would have thought I'd get to admire such scenery even in the navy."
A smile emerged on Zavia's face. He felt very comfortable seeing such a sight. After all, Zavia had loved beautiful things in his previous life, especially paired with nature or nature itself.
"Oh? Sengoku's still not asleep?"
After enjoying the scenery, Zavia's gaze looked back to see the lights in Sengoku's office still lit. Seemed like there were so many documents that Sengoku had to work overtime.
The military academy in the dead of night seemed so quiet and serene, not one bit inferior to when Zavia first arrived in the morning. Right now at this time, the academy's current state was actually what Zavia preferred.
"Forget it, since I can't fall back asleep tonight might as well make use of these few hours."
Zavia stretched lazily before using his right hand to brush his hair back, instantly completing Vergil's classic swept back hairstyle.
He arrived at the center of the rooftop, sitting cross-legged as he started meditating. He planned to meditate for 2 hours first before spending the remaining time on physical training - stuff like pushups, sit ups etc.
If it was too easy, Zavia could also head to the parade grounds below since there were plenty of workout equipment he could use.
***
4 hours later, Zavia was bare chested doing pull ups at the parade grounds. Every rep made the biceps on his arms bulge.
"Huff–"
After finishing the last set of pull ups, Zavia let go and dropped to the floor. Sweat drenched his body as he went to the open space at the side, picking up the energy drink he prepared earlier and guzzling it down.
Zavia didn't know if energy drinks existed in the Pirate World, but this can was made by him based on memories from his previous life. Of course, Legacy powers sponsored the production process.
It was only now that Zavia discovered Legacy powers could materialize some simple items like water, food, or clothes through imagination. It was practically on par with Doraemon's pocket. Of course, still a bit inferior.
Zavia picked up the towel hanging on the side to wipe off sweat before looking towards the gradually brightening whiteness on the horizon with his icy blue eyes.
"Only 500 reps with weighted training... Originally could have done 700 reps." Zavia squatted down to undo the iron shackles bound on his legs.
He didn't know the origins of these iron rings. In any case it was super heavy. These things were placed at the edge of the parade grounds, probably for convenient use by trainees during practice.
Initially Zavia didn't know what these things were until after some trial and error he realized they were weighted shackles. Even the lightest one here was 100 kg. For Zavia it was still acceptable but probably difficult for those trainees.
The weighted shackle Zavia had on after measuring was the heaviest one at a whopping 1 ton per ring! And he had 4 of them on!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The four iron rings smashed deep pits into the ground. The surface even started cracking from the heavy impacts. After all, these things were made of seastone.
"Hmph, guess nothing less expected of navy headquarters. I've been training since 1 AM until now and yet not a single patrol came by. Even if this is considered the safest stronghold in the current world, isn't such negligence going overboard?" After removing the shackles, Zavia suddenly complained for no reason.
Indeed, as Zavia said, from when he woke up until now near daybreak, not a single naval patrol came by. Aside from the lights in Sengoku's office, all other lights remained off since that time.
Putting on his shirt and tossing the water bottle plus towel into his spatial pouch, Zavia didn't linger here long. After all, it would be dawn soon meaning people would start appearing.
Zavia didn't return to his dorm and headed straight for the showers instead since his current sweat-drenched state was too uncomfortable even for him to tolerate.
***
Half an hour later, Zavia walked out from the shower. Or rather, he directly appeared outside the shower room entrance. Right now his body was completely clean.
The reason for saying he directly appeared outside was because the showers here weren't open 24 hours. The academy's showers were only available from 6 PM to 12 AM.
Thus Zavia directly used spatial teleportation to get in. Any obstruction basically meant nothing to him.
After showering, Zavia immediately left this place using spatial powers. After all, it wasn't suitable to keep lingering around.
Just 2 minutes after Zavia left, an old navy soldier came rushing over with an iron rod as thick as 5 cm in his hand. He looked around, trying to find something but unfortunately there was nothing.
"Strange, could I really be getting old? This lock clearly shows no signs of being picked. So why did the system register someone using hot water?"
