Demon Slayer: Strength Gained with Every Swing of the Sword

Chapter 47: Chapter 48: Kyojuro Rengoku

Since that day at the training ground, Shinobu Kochou had realized that her lose in composure had been witnessed by everyone at the Butterfly Mansion.

But when she reopened the door to face the outside world, she did so with the calmness of someone who had never been affected.

The others at the Butterfly Mansion said nothing, but they paid even more attention to her, offering their help more diligently than before.

The true culprit, Feng Yu , knowing that Shinobu had awakened, quickly fled the scene and made her way to the home of Kyojuro Rengoku.

Riding on the back of the massive Xiao Hei, he soon arrived at a courtyard.

The sheer size of Xiao Hei startled Senjuro Rengoku, who was sweeping the yard.

"Monster…!"

Senjuro stood frozen in terror, staring up at the enormous creature in the sky. His hands gripped the broom tightly, his legs shaking uncontrollably.

"Well… seems like you scared Kyojuro's little brother..." Feng Yu said with a chuckle as he lifted Xiao Hei and jumped down to stand before Senjuro.

"Sorry, my pet probably frightened you. I'm Feng Yu , a good friend of your older brother, nice to meet you!"

Feng Yu extended a hand, gently helping Senjuro, who had fallen to the ground, to his feet.

"That… that monster was your pet?" Senjuro asked, his voice filled with disbelief, especially given Xiao Hei's current intimidating size.

"Xiao Hei, return to your usual form and apologize to Senjuro."

Xiao Hei slowly returned to his normal shape, then apologized in his usual way, "Caw, sorry about that. Didn't mean to scare you."

"Is this the crow from the Demon Slayer Corps?"

Senjuro, clearly recognizing the crow, asked.

"Yes, so where's your brother?" Feng Yu asked, a smile on her face.

"My brother just stepped out. Mr. Feng Yu , why don't you come in and sit for a while? I'm sure my brother will be back soon."

Senjuro respectfully invited Feng Yu in.

"Alright."

Feng Yu nodded casually.

"You and your brother look so alike, yet also different..."

Kyojuro and Senjuro were almost identical, though if you didn't pay attention to Senjuro's height and the difference in their speech, it might be hard to tell them apart.

"Mr. Feng Yu is joking. I'm not on the same level as my older brother…" Senjuro said as he poured Feng Yu a cup of tea.

"Actually, there are many ways to guide others through life. You don't need overwhelming strength to protect them…"

Feng Yu spoke in a quiet, thoughtful tone.

Upon hearing this, Senjuro froze. His eyes widened. "Mr. Feng Yu … Do you really think so?"

"Senjuro, whether you can achieve it depends on you, not on what others believe you can do."

Feng Yu took a sip of tea and spoke slowly.

"Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Feng Yu ..." Senjuro said humbly, before returning to his task of sweeping and tidying up the yard.

Just then, the sound of a vase shattering came from inside the house, followed by the crashing sound of a man with orange-red hair and thick black eyebrows, a man strikingly similar to Senjuro, stumbling out from the room and falling to the floor.

A strong odor of alcohol immediately filled the air.

"What's this?" Feng Yu asked, looking at the man.

"Sorry for the trouble, Mr. Feng Yu . This is my father…" Senjuro said apologetically, looking slightly embarrassed. He moved quickly to help the man, who was now struggling to get up.

"Get away from me! You're useless, just like Kyojuro! None of us will ever measure up to him. All the breathing styles are just offshoots of the Sun Breathing…"

The man, Senjuro's father, Shinjuro Rengoku, pushed Senjuro away as he reached for a fallen bottle of alcohol.

Feng Yu watched in silence, noticing how small Senjuro's frame was compared to the towering Shinjuro Rengoku.

Senjuro said nothing, his expression one of quiet acceptance, as if he had long been used to this life.

Feng Yu faintly recalled some information from his previous life…

"After reading the books left by previous Flame Hashira, Shinjuro came to realize the vast gap between the strength of the warrior who used the 'Sun Breathing' and his own. He slowly became aware of his limits in swordsmanship and, over time, gave up on the identity of a swordsman, resigning himself to despair…"

"After his wife, Rengoku Ruka, passed away due to illness, Shinjuro sank even further into alcoholism, completely severing his ties with the Demon Slayer Corps."

Feng Yu felt that this was the point at which Shinjuro had already failed. Once he lost the will to grow stronger, the former Flame Hashira had died inside.

In the previous life, if not for the news of Kyojuro's death and the head strike by Tanjiro, the realization and regret would never have come.

"Useless… all of you are useless… One day, you'll all die by a demon's hand…"

Shinjuro's constant cursing filled the room, along with the sounds of furniture being smashed.

Feng Yu ignored it. There was nothing he could do for someone who had already lost their faith. It would either be a wake-up call through personal reflection or, as it happened in the original story, a head strike by Tanjiro.

"I wonder how Tanjiro's training is going... I miss him…"

Far away, in the midst of his training on Mount Sagiri, Tanjiro suddenly sneezed.

"Why do I suddenly feel like something bad is going to happen?" Tanjiro wondered, looking around.

"When this journey is over… maybe I should head back..." Feng Yu closed his eyes and began to rest.

The scent of wisteria incense filled the air, as Senjuro lit the incense to calm his father.

"These scents help my father relax," Senjuro explained.

"Hmm, it's fine…" Feng Yu nodded.

Before long, it was past 3 PM.

Kyojuro Rengoku, the current Flame Hashira, returned home.

Seeing Feng Yu in his house, Kyojuro couldn't help but shout, "Feng Yu -kun, it seems like your strength has improved quite a lot!"

Kyojuro's booming voice reverberated, shaking the air.

Feng Yu couldn't help but smile to himself. As expected of you, Kyojuro. Your voice could scare even the old man in the village.

"It's been a while, Rengoku-san. Please forgive my sudden visit," Feng Yu said, rising to greet him.

"Hahaha, Feng Yu -kun, do you want to be my adopted son?" Kyojuro laughed heartily, clearly eager to hear Feng Yu 's response.

"Apologies, Rengoku-san, but I have no such intention!" Feng Yu responded with a smile.

"I came to visit, just to chat, and maybe spar a little!"

Feng Yu clasped his hands in a respectful gesture.

Kyojuro paused for a moment, about to agree, but Senjuro suddenly interrupted.

"Brother, it's already late, don't you think we should eat first before sparring?"

With a growl, Kyojuro's stomach made a loud noise.

"Hahaha, alright, let's eat first!"

Feng Yu nodded in agreement, and they all sat down to enjoy the meal.

"Does Rengoku-san always eat this much?" Feng Yu asked, surprised at the massive pile of food disappearing rapidly before Kyojuro.

"Yes, my brother always eats like that…" Senjuro replied casually, as he helped Kyojuro by serving him more food.

"Even though Senjuro is younger than Kyojuro, he manages the household with such order and composure, his demeanor so different from his brother's. They complement each other well."

"Kyojuro is bold and straightforward, while Senjuro is reserved and polite. The brothers' personalities are like yin and yang."

Feng Yu observed them silently, noting how Senjuro cared for Kyojuro like a little adult.
