“Last night…”

A tense voice echoed through the headmaster’s office.

“Twenty-five teachers and a total of two hundred students attempted to escape.”

Alhandi wasn’t the only one who tried to escape last night.

Fearing they might be reported, groups of people had secretly formed and attempted to escape.

And the result was…

“All the teachers died instantly. The students… they’ve been captured and gathered in the auditorium.”

It was a situation too terrible to describe.

*Gulp.*

Even though Terran was declining, the teachers were actually quite skilled; and since Terran didn’t really care what people did, Knights who had lost their honor by fleeing from battle or mages who experimented with forbidden magic came to Terran to become teachers.

Despite their flaws, their skills were at least above average.

Those Terran teachers.

‘They died without being able to do anything.’

They simply turned to dust.

‘An Elder Lich.’

She had heard that a new guard had been appointed for the academy, but she didn’t know it was an Elder Lich.

[Elder Lich.]

It was a cursed monster and one of the most terrifying undead creatures.

A Lich was a fallen mage who had given up their humanity in exchange for eternal life. If such a Lich survived for hundreds or thousands of years and reached the pinnacle of magic, they became an Elder Lich; the number of Elder Liches on the Caldelan Continent was extremely small, barely enough to count on one hand.

‘The idea that such a being was merely a guard for the academy was almost unbelievable.’

It was at that moment that she truly realized the significance of the Demon King of Chaos becoming the new headmaster.

Rumors were already spreading among the students.

The news of the teachers and students escaping, and the subsequent outcome, had driven Terran into even greater fear, on top of the mental breakdown caused by the Demon King becoming the headmaster.

“…….”

The person reporting looked at Louis, who was sitting at the desk in the headmaster’s office.

His face showed no interest in anything; the only emotions that could be seen on his face were slight annoyance and lethargy.

“Fortunately…”

The person reporting glanced at him and continued.

“The entrance ceremony at Terran has always been held on Fridays. It was meant for the students to adapt to the school and prepare for classes over the weekend.”

So even though nearly half of the teachers were dead.

“You don’t have to worry about classes today.”

There was no immediate problem.

“What should we do with the students?”

The students gathered in the auditorium.

“They should be punished.”

“But…”

The person reporting widened their eyes.

‘I have to do this.’

They had a mission.

To somehow contain his demonic rampage.

“I hope you haven’t forgotten our agreement?”

The languid eyes narrowed dangerously, piercing the person reporting to him.

“Our agreement, between you, me, and Kyle. You’re not to kill the students.”

It was she who had appointed the continent’s most notorious Demon King as the headmaster of Terran Academy.

Because she was the Hero Rayze.

“…I’ll let this slide as a warning.”

She finally let out a sigh in response to Louis’ words.

Closing her eyes, she thought back to the events of the past few months.

Several months ago.

The Land of Chaos, a place where no one had dared to tread for hundreds of years.

“Pant…pant…“

Rayze, the Hero barely produced by Terran Academy in decades, was wandering alone.

“Pant…”

It was like hell.

Not the hell of roaring flames or endless abysses or evil monsters, but a far worse kind.

“I need to rest…”

It was the worst kind of hell imaginable.

A void. Her sense of direction was distorted, and her senses were slowly fading away. If it weren’t for the necklace passed down through her family, she would have been a corpse lying on the ground within a few days.

‘Thank you,’ she prayed, clutching the rough necklace.

She began to walk again, but every step felt like she was being drained of all her energy.

“Haah.”

Even though there was no sun, it felt hot.

“……….. “

And yet, even though the sun was high above, she felt an icy cold creeping into her bones.

Still, Rayze didn’t give up. She pressed on.

She lost count of how many days had passed. Her food was gone, and she was barely surviving on the little water she had left.

“I want to die…”

She thought back to the arduous training she had endured to become a Hero. Even in the worst academy, Terran, she had worked tirelessly.

Back then, she had thought that was hell.

“I want to die.”

But now, even that time seemed sweet.

Finally, she collapsed.

It felt like she had been without water for dozens of days.

With blurred vision, she clutched the necklace and curled up like a shrimp.

‘Give me strength,’ she prayed to Kyle, her distant ancestor.

And then.

*Boom!*

A massive roar echoed from far away.

Hieeeeee!

The sound of a horse’s neigh, enough to make one’s heart pound.

*Clip-clop, clip-clop.*

The sound of hooves grew closer.

Rayze continued to tremble, unable to look up.

An overwhelming presence. She felt as if merely looking at the oncomer’s face was a sacrilege.

It was then a voice reached her.

“So, the executor of the covenant has finally arrived.”

A solemn voice filled with reverence.

“I shall guide you to my master.”

Rayze felt herself sinking deeper into despair.

This being with such an immense presence…

“You…you aren’t the Demon King of Chaos…?”

…was it not the Demon King of Chaos?

“What a laughable thing to say.”

A bitter laugh echoed.

“To compare me to him? If you weren’t the executor of the covenant, I would have incinerated your soul without hesitation.”

Rayze’s mind went blank.

And when she regained consciousness.

“Ah.”

All Rayze could manage was a whimper.

She immediately understood what the solemn voice had meant.

When she saw him sitting lazily on a pitch-black throne in a space of utter darkness.

‘So this is him.’

She realized who the Demon King of Chaos truly was.

She was able to look at him, unlike before.

It was because he was on a completely different level, so unreal that it felt like a dream.

“You,”

His languid voice echoed.

“Are you the one who came to fulfill the covenant?”

Her mind cleared.

And she spoke without hesitation.

“Yes, Your Majesty, the Demon King of Chaos.”

Although he was the evil Demon King that she, as a Hero, was supposed to defeat, she answered with reverence due to the overwhelming sense of awe.

Clutching her necklace, Rayze said, “Please become the headmaster of Terran.”

And so, the Demon King of Chaos, Louis Shambel, became the headmaster of Terran.

‘It’s too late to judge what is right and wrong.’

Rayze thought, looking at Louis; the shock from that day still lingered, but the being before her was completely different. Although he still exuded an immense presence, he didn’t have the same overwhelming feeling as the first time.

It was as if the Demon King had diminished his presence, stepping out of his realm.

If he hadn’t, the entire Kingdom of Franz would have been dead the moment he appeared.

‘I can only move forward.’

Rayze made up her mind.

She had pondered countless times before stepping into the Land Of Chaos, and she had continued to think about it even after making her final decision.

Since she had already taken action.

“Do not forget,”

Rayze said to Louis.

“Your Majesty must fulfill the promises you made. If you fail to do so, you will face the consequences of the covenant.”

These were the promises Louis had made during the entrance ceremony on the first day.

I need to produce one hero this year and ten within three years.

And within five years…

‘A hero from Terran will defeat the Demon King.’

If this promise isn’t fulfilled…

“You will have to fight until every demon is dead.”

Louis would have to fight all the demons in the continent, using five kingdoms, including Franz, as sacrifices.

“How audacious.”

Rayze trembled as Louis spoke in a languid voice.

“Don’t forget. If I fulfill all my promises…”

A smirk.

“Kyle will be mine.”

Kyle, the greatest Hero the continent had ever known. His soul, contained in a necklace, would belong to Louis.

“I won’t forget.”

“Nor will I.”

Rayze finally stood up.

Although the academy was in disarray after Louis’ inauguration yesterday, it wasn’t just the headmaster position that had changed.

“Also, as promised, I will do everything in my power to help Your Majesty fulfill your promise.”

Rayze had become the vice-principal.

“The biggest problem right now is…”

Everything she had dreamed of; the being before her had the power to make it a reality.

“The teachers at Terran.”

While there were many reasons why Terran had become the worst academy, the teacher issue was the most severe; the problem began when, due to a lack of qualified teachers willing to work at Terran, they started accepting mediocre individuals.

These teachers had only drained Terran’s funds and never properly taught the students.

“Yesterday, twenty-five teachers were executed by the Elder Lich… or rather, the guard. Among them were swordsmanship teachers, sociology teachers, magic teachers…”

She listed the deceased teachers’ specialties.

“We don’t have enough teachers to hold classes on Monday. If this continues, the academy will fall into even greater chaos.”

For now, the academy was completely sealed off.

Parents who attended the entrance ceremony will have their memories erased and sent home.

Since Terran was a boarding school, all students must remain on campus until the end of the semester unless there was a special reason.

And if any problems arise.

— I will do everything in my power to prevent it.

She had already made a promise to His Majesty, the King.

While the outside world was secure, if internal problems worsened.

‘In the end, no Heroes will be born.’

The students would simply wait for the semester to end without learning anything.

That couldn’t happen.

“I’ve come up with a solution.”

Rayze was determined to fulfill her duty.

Even if Kyle’s soul was the price, it would be worth it if it saved the continent.

“First, I’ll contact the imperial palace and select a few knights from the imperial knights, and the kingdom’s magic tower…”

“That’s enough.”

“Yes?”

Rayze stared at Louis with a stunned expression.

“They’re just humans after all. I’ve already seen what Terran is like.”

This place was a complete mess.

While Rayze’s method might be okay if there was time, it would ultimately lead to the same result. Terran wasn’t a place that could be purified with just a few aquatic plants.

“I’ll do it my way.”

“Your Majesty’s way?”

“Yes.”

Louis stood up.

“And,”

Louis’ cold eyes fixed on Rayze.

“It’s ‘headmaster’, not ‘Demon King’.”

A smirk.

There was something Rayze hadn’t considered.

That Louis was a bored Demon King who had been waiting for this kind of game for a long time.
