Chapter 6: Since we're here anyways, Time to make some Mana-Infused weeds.

- - -

"What do you need that for?"

Today was supposed to be a day off from training, not that I was ever particularly devoted to the whole "training" thing.

But it did give me an excuse.

And that brings me to where I am.

Inside my room, seated in front of my table with archaic papers stacked on my table with several leaves.

"See, I came to a wonderful discovery thanks to analysis and a few long hours of insomnia-fueled genius, I made a wonderful discovery."

I raised one of the archaic parchments, showing a very detailed diagram and a description on it.

[Moonlit Marjoram]

[Description]:

- [A silvery herb with leaves that shimmer under moonlight. It has a soothing, dream-inducing aroma that is said to give people hallucinations.]

I stared at her.

"This, could make the classiest weed in isekai history."

As I mentioned that, I didn't even hear her sigh, I could feel she was disappointed even.

It was yesterday night, after the training and all I went for this grind. But that was not all.

I raised another paper for her to see.

[Dragon Flower]

[Description]:

- [A spicy, fiery herb with leaves that resemble tiny dragon scales. It is edible and can be used in cooking when processed into fine red powder.]

Akane's footsteps moved closer. I could feel the squint in her eyes behind me.

"So? What are you planning on doing with all these exotic plants?"

I gestured vaguely around us. It wasn't just the desk. I had spread everything to my bed; it was everywhere in the room.

Even the curtain rod had a bunch of dried vines strung across it. She only looked around before her gaze fell back to another parchment I held.

"Whispering Willow Weed."

[Whispering Willow Weed]

[Description: A delicate, feathery herb that rustles softly, even in still air. It can induce a sense of tranquility when consumed.]

"Mhm, so this can calm someone's mind. Can be used for anesthesia."

I murmured, rotating the soft dandelion-like sprig between my fingers.

"Wait, what?"

Akane's voice came from behind me, startled as she leaned forward toward the dandelion-like plant I held.

I handed it ober to her as I began documenting some new entries.

What I was doing was creating visual representations and incorporating the corresponding descriptions onto the paper.

Later, probably, I will find even better use of them.

Heck, I could even use this and make potions. Of course, I knew it wasn't as easy as dunking leaves in hot water and shouting "alchemy."

In fact, if it were so, that would be easier for me.

"T–that's something. Haha. What's next, a Fenthynol Weed. Haha."

Akane laughed as she drew back slightly, but I looked at her with a blank expression.

"How did you know?"

"W-wait? For real!?"

[Eucalyptus Opiate]

[Description]:

- [A resinous, sticky herb that exudes a potent, murky scent. It is known for its intense, euphoric effects, but can also lead to a state where the user loses all sense of everything.]

I presented a dry looking veiny leaf thin in appearance, around 5cm tall whith an incredibly thin structure.

"This is your guy." Turning my head slightly, I grinned.

"Grind this, and you get pure, unfiltered fantasy-world fentanyl."

I saw Akane twitch as she took a step back and another; however, before she could take another, she stumped on my bed.

She sat there, stunned.

Seeing that, I turned over, with a slight grin as I bought the thin dry leaf closer.

"No, no, even with its unprocessed state too is good, I guess."

"Wh-what do you want to do."

I moved closer, as she shut her eyes, turning her head away, but I laughed instead.

"Relax, I won't use it on you. Well, I can't say the same for my enemies."

Saying that, I went back to sit. But I couldn't help but notice the slight disappointment in her expression.

Was she disappointed?

Turns out she's more screwed than I thought. But for the meantime, I contined.

[Aloe]

[Description]:

- [Leaves with a gel-like substance that can be applied on wounds to heal it. Eating it can also enhance healing properties.]

"This, however, can be used to heal potions."

"You mean those game stuffs?"

"Yeah, I assume this world isn't really potion-dependent, and Minase… as much as the others have faith in her… I don't wanna put too much trust in her."

Akane stared at me half-lidded.

"So, you're the type to trust yourself more than any other person?"

Not really. It simply depended on the type of person. Honestly, as edgy as it sounds… relying on oneself is the best bet.

At least, the surefire way to survive this world.

Not especially when a certain someone had put the entire class into this spot. I'm not arguing.

Rather, I simply feel pity for my classmates.

Dragged into another world without a choice, forced to serve this nation's whim without knowing anything about it.

At the same time, not aware of the deeper secrets this Empire holds.

If it were me alone, I'd be okay, but yeah, at the same time, I guess it's interesting to be around wherever the drama is.

Not to mention, my words don't hold sway over them.

Even if I use Akane to change their perspective, they're new to this world.

There's no saying that everyone is okay with leaving their comfort zone to become fugitives of the empire.

With all these in mind, I'm simply sticking to the stay by the side and observe the Empire for now.

"I bet there are other useful leaves out there. At the very least, it's good to come up with contingencies, no?"

"Sure. If we are able to equip life-saving potions that can help with minimal recovery, without burdening Minase, then that would be good."

Of course, she knew she would be the one to handle everything. Perhaps she'd hoped into a cooperative relationship with him way too quick.

But she didn't mind it if it were helpful.

"By the way, there's something else I came here for."

Suddenly, her tone turned serious, and for the most part, I could tell.

"If you're talking about that one woman with that minister, then sure."

One whose status I couldn't see. Maybe it was because she was stronger.

This is not the first time I couldn't identify things. Rather, I get information based on what I can feasibly comprehend.

Herbs, for example, all I need to do is test them myself to know what they do. But analysis skips the need for me to test the herbs myself.

It skips that and relays the info to me. Or, that was what my genius deductive skills deduced.

Naturally, I suspect my skill isn't a form of skill with how structured the abilities listed under it are.

I have a vague idea, and trying using analysis alongside, my suspicions have been confirmed.

[R#### #R##S#ON]

[Unlock Condition]

[???]

Well, there was no point dwelling on it.

"So, you know too. …Yes. I can't be sure now. But I feel something's off about her."

"Retsu. For the main time, other than your usual escapades. Don't try infiltrating the castle."

I turned my chair over, opposite her. My brow rising slightly.

"She might have caught on to me, huh? Is that what you're saying?"

"Highly likely. For now, they know you as the biggest enigma of our group, so continue to maintain that. That way we have something to leverage against them."

So, all I have to do is continue skipping training while occasionally showcasing my powers, but not everything to them.

Till now, nobody knows I can control shadows other than Nakatani and Akane.

And even then, other than Akane, even Nakatani doesn't know the other part of my abilities.

"I was planning on doing that anyway."

"That's good then. Only about a week or two before we eventually go dungeon raiding. How do you feel?"

"You really asking me? I don't particularly look forward to it."

Saying that, I turned the chair, facing the table once again, twirling the fountain pen in hand.

"Hehe. Well, I guess someone like you won't have much problems."

She said that, getting up as she began heading towards the door of the room, but before she did.

"Akane."

I called out to her, dropping the fountain pen in hand. She was already on her way out when I called her.

"Mhm."

As she turned to look at me, I was already in front of her, softly pinning her to the wall.

Her eyes widened as she didn't seem to expect it. And slowly, I saw red creep into her face.

She seems to be enjoying this situation.

Good grief, the girl I thought wouldn't be fazed by anything… It's not good to keep a girl waiting.

Thinking that, I leaned in and our lips touched.

For now, we didn't move past that. We hadn't even bothered clarifying our relationship.

Rather, we saw it as something that we didn't need to dwell upon.

Akane could read my motives, and while it may sound like I'm overconfident, I believe in my assumptions.

We didn't need to deeply explore our feelings. For now, these gestures were enough.

Thinking that, I pulled away, my left hand on my lips as I licked it, then I gave her a grin.

"You've been getting the jump, so, from now on, I'm taking the lead."

Having said that, she nodded, absentmindedly at first, still caught in that surprised, blushing haze.

Eventually, she giggled, leaving the room without lingering a second longer.

"Haah."

Now then, time to continue.
