Deities: Starting From Goblins

Chapter 859 - 505: The Great Vow

Chapter 859: Chapter 505: The Great Vow

He just never thought the day would come when such punishment would befall him.

With each strike of the whip, his body endured the torturous pain of a thousand ants gnawing his bones.

As a frail member of the Demon Race, he couldn’t withstand the lashes. After only a few, his body was already at death’s door.

Devon Taylor just watched coldly, his eyes devoid of any warmth or compassion.

A moment passed, and as he saw Lexi Carr’s breath growing faint, he finally gave an order.

“Splash a bucket of water on him to wake him up. I have many questions to ask. Don’t let him die on us!”

...

“Yes.”

One of his subordinates promptly responded and, without hesitation, threw a bucket of water over him.

Drenched with the cold water, Lexi Carr shivered violently, regaining his senses, but the severe whipping left him in terrible shape, his lips pale and his face marked by a pathological paleness.

“Lexi Carr, answer our questions honestly. This is just a starter. If you don’t cooperate, you won’t want to know what comes next!”

Devon Taylor curled his lips into a nearly cruel smile.

Lexi Carr didn’t speak, just looked at him, barely breathing.

“What exactly do you want to know? What do you want to ask me?”

At that, Devon Taylor told him the truth.

“Let me be straight with you: we saw the dead bodies of other members of the Demon Race on the road, including those who were with you. Why lie to us? Why are you the only one who returned alive?”

“Lexi Carr, don’t tell me you conspired with the Human race and caused the death of your kin, did you?”

“No, it’s not…”

He tried to refute the claim. It wasn’t his fault; there was no collusion. It was simply because other Demons had courted death, and in truth, he was the victim, utterly innocent.

However, before he could speak, these Demons did not trust him.

“Ha, spare us your tricks! We’re not going to listen to your sophistry. Devon Taylor, what are you waiting for? You’ve whipped the kid so much and got nothing out of him. And with his constant prattling about peaceful coexistence of Human and Demon races, I bet he’s already defected to the Human race. What are you waiting for? Finish off this traitor now.”

Devon Taylor remained silent, stroking his chin as though pondering something.

“Come on, Devon Taylor, you’re not telling me you have some kind of soft spot for this kid, are you?”

Hearing this, Devon Taylor laughed mockingly.

“A soft spot? You mean the fact that I used to bully him regularly, beat him up regularly? That kind of soft spot?”

“Do you really believe that?”

“It’s not that I pity him. You know I’m not a man of sympathy. It’s just that I want to pry some information from this kid. After all, the Demons we sent before were not weak. How could they have been wiped out so suddenly?”

As he spoke, his brow furrowed deeply, his eyes glinting with a cold ferocity.

“Besides, only this wretched kid survived. If you say there’s no foul play involved, nobody would believe it. I just want to know what secrets are hidden here and who’s behind all this?”

With that, the other Demons nodded, realizing he made a good point.

“That’s right, I want to know who’s bold enough to attack the Demon Race!”

“This time, the higher-ups have given us an important mission. We can’t afford any mistakes!”

The Demons discussed for a while and then landed another whip on Lexi Carr.

“Speak up, who exactly are you conspiring with? Who killed the Demons?”

“Lexi Carr, just tell us who you’re in league with, and maybe we’ll spare your life. Otherwise, believe us, we’ll kill you right now!”

Blood spilled from the corners of Lexi Carr’s mouth, yet even at this stage, he did not reveal Logan’s thoughts, nor would he disclose the identity of their backend mastermind.

“No, you can dream on. I definitely won’t tell you.”

“You’re courting death!”

The Demons, completely enraged by him, intended to execute him on the spot.

In the nick of time, Logan and Maya Leaf suddenly burst in.

“Stop!”

Logan, with swift hands, quickly drew an array on the ground. The array immediately wrapped around Lexi Carr, blocking the lethal blow.

Hearing the intense noise but not feeling the pain, Lexi Carr, who had shut his eyes, tremulously opened them to see a pale blue light encircling him.

His eyes wide with disbelief, he couldn’t comprehend what was happening before him.

Looking over at Logan and Maya Leaf, who had appeared at his side, his first reaction was of immense relief, which then shifted to concern.

He yelled out to them.

“Young Master Logan, Miss Leaf, what are you doing here? Get out, hurry, run away! This is the Demon Clan’s Headquarters, you can’t beat them. Forget about me, save your own lives!”

Lexi Carr, having ventured here alone, had already foreseen his end and harbored no regrets, but he did not wish for the two companions he had just made to risk their lives for his sake.

Whether they acknowledged it or not, in his heart, they were his allies, the only ones who did not see him as an outcast. He was deeply worried for their safety.

Logan glanced back with a look that was both reproachful and frustrated.

“Shut up, I’ll settle with you later, you idiot!”

They had never imagined this foolhardy kid would venture alone into the heart of the Demon Clan’s Headquarters. While others avoided it like the plague, he had walked right into it.
