Chapter 42: Lex Luthor...
I didn't stay long on Avalon, and they had a lot to catch up on. The only thing that Giovanni said to me was that he wanted to talk later, as for Zatanna, she was crying with her mother, so I just left the next day.
Now back in my workshop, I decided to take some rest of the supernatural world.
*Ring* *Ring*
*Click*
"Good morning, sir. Did you receive my message?"
"Good morning, Matthew. Yes, I did, What's this all about?" I took a seat on one of the chairs.
"Well, sir, apparently Mr. Luthor will announce a business proposition in a private event."
"Oh, so he invites us, and not you?"
{as expected of one of the most intelligent people on the planet}
"Yes, I don't know how he knew of you, sir." He sounds really confused.
"Don't worry about it. I knew some people would notice, so do you know what businesses he will announce?"
"According to the investigation, the recent projects of Lex Corp. are only militaristic."
"Hmm...so he probably wants internet and satellite communications contacts from us, or only money."
When I began investing in companies, the first ones that I did were related to those two properties; with time, I expanded my reach to cellphones and telecommunications.
Later, I began to invest in search engines and social media platforms.
Also, thanks to my books being a hit, I got interested in movie studios and Hollywood.I knew it was going to be the natural progression, and two months later there were talks of my first book becoming a movie.
"Sir..."
"Ah, sorry, Matthew, were you saying?"
"The invitation is for the next week's Gala event in Metropolis."
"I see. Very well. I will be there."
"Really sir!" He sounds surprised.
{Well, since I hired him, I have never have appeared in public, but I think it is time to change that}
*************
[Who is Batman?, real or myth, everything you need to know later this night]
{Hmm?}
"So Bruce Wayne has already begun his vigilante career."
In the news talking about Gotham, a new interesting development happened: a vigilante calling himself Batman appeared out of nowhere in the streets of Gotham, punishing thugs and criminals alike.
{Hah... little by little, this world will begin to change; Gotham is only the beginning}
~{not only him, I'm pretty sure Clark is doing hero work in the shadows}~
May 28th, Metropolis
In one of the many venues in Metropolis, a gathering of wealthy and powerful people is taking place, sponsored by Lex Luthor.
Since he took the company from his late father, he took it to new heights, making Lex Corp. one of the most prominent companies around the world.
So, of course, journalists want to know what's next for the company.
*kachin*
*Kachin*
"Please look this way, Mr. Raymond."
*Kachin*
"Miss Lopez, please..."
*Kachin*
"This is really a circus."
"It's the standard, sir" (Mathew)
Me and Matthew are in the car, and I'm already regretting coming here. There are lots of journalists, paparazzi, and whatnot.
(Sigh)
"Well, lead the way, Matthew," I said, looking at my trusty companion.
"Yes, sir" He grabbed the door handle and exited the car.
The first thing that greeted us were flashes of lights thanks to the cameras; luckily, Matthew moved fast into the building.
{Annoying...}
According to Matthew, the building belongs to Lex and is exclusively used for these kinds of events.
Moving through the crowd of people, we made it to the entrance, where a security guard was asking for information.
"Names?"
"Mathew Grand and Isaac Kent"
He began to check his list of names.
"Welcome to the Gala Mister Mathew, Mister Isaac, you can come." He opened the door for us.
"Thank you"x2 We just went through.
The place was elegantly decorated with luxurious furniture, exotic paints, and strange sculptures; it also had a lot of waiters.
"Oh, hello, Miss Laila."
"Good to see you, Kyle."
*Giggle*
{Ugh, I'm not really good at these social gatherings}
~{luckily I have Mathew}~
"Oh, Miss Julia, it's been a while..."
"Mathew darling...."
He was chatting and getting along just fine with the crowd. So I just went to the appetizer table to eat something.
The table was full of elegant food and drinks, and there were two waiters there offering help if you wanted something special or not.
{What a service! How much money will all this cost?}
As I was getting some food, the murmurs were getting louder. The main concern was the announcement; apparently Lex keeps everything hush-hush.
{If is a military project, is probably a new R&D department that will work together with the government, either way is a good investment, if you ask me}
*Ting*
*Ting*
"If I can have your attention, please, ladies and gentlemen."
The man of the hour, a young Lex Luthor, 6 feet tall, white skin, green eyes, and completely bald, it shines under the light.
"It is my great honor to have you all here. I welcome you..."
His voice was confident, almost arrogant.
"With that aside, I hope that tonight we all have a wonderful evening."
*Clap* *Clap* *Clap*
Everybody began to clap as soon as he finished his speech. He began to speak with each one of the guests personally, and probably now is when he finally pitched his new project to the investors.
{I will let Matthew handle that} I just focused on food and drinks.
"I hope the food is to your liking, Mister Kent."
{Hah, clever bastard...}
"Indeed, it is Mister Luthor." I took a glance beside me, and Luthor was there along with Matthew behind him, making an apologetic face.
"So, Mister Luthor, what can I do for you?" I continue eating my food.
"Straight to the point."
"I don't like playing games or wasting time, Mister Luthor. I apologize if it sounds rude on my part."
"Not at all, Mr. Kent. I appreciate the honesty very well. Lex Corp. has made a deal with the government to create a new R&D department."
{Bingo}
"Say less, I'm in; everything else, Matthew over there can take care of the details; is that good for you, mister Luthor?"
"Excellent; it was a pleasure knowing you, Mr. Kent."
"Like wise," he and Matthew chatted a little bit more, then he left for other guests.
"Sir..."
"Later, Matthew, let's get out of here; I'm really not made for these events." After half an hour, we left the venue.
************
A couple of days later, Matthew brought me the official documents, and indeed, the benefits are great, as is the money, of course.
"What do you think, sir?"
"Is it good?" I signed the documents.
"Here," I pass the signed documents to Matthew.
"Thank you, sir..." He was hesitant about something.
{Hmm?}
"Spit it out, Mathew."
"Sir, is it okay to invest in the military?"
"No, but if you want to do business here, you need to."
"Understood, sir." His tone was disappointed.
{Sorry Mathew, this is how the real world works}
"Now go, take some time off if you want to."
"No, I'm good, sir; see you later." He stood up and left.
