DC: Becoming Supreme With Technology ( I Beat Superman)

Chapter 36: The Reach, Overriding, Cloaking Device

Ethan leaned against the wall of the safehouse, watching as Jaime stirred more fully, his strength slowly returning. The boy's family hovered around him, fussing over every movement he made. Ethan waited patiently until there was a lull, then stepped forward and sat at the edge of the bed.

"Jaime," Ethan began softly, "I need you to tell me what went wrong out there. Why couldn't you fight back against the scarab warriors?"

Jaime's expression darkened as he looked at Ethan, then down at his own hands. "It was my scarab, Khaji Da," he admitted, his voice heavy with frustration. "It... shut down during the fight. I couldn't access any of its weapon systems. All I had was the suit's strength, but it wasn't enough."

Ethan nodded, silent for a moment as he processed Jaime's words. Finally, he held out his hand. "Can I see the scarab?"

Jaime hesitated but trusted Ethan enough to comply. He removed the scarab, which detached from his spine and rested inert in his palm. Ethan took it carefully, examining the sleek alien technology with a critical eye.

"I'm going to try something," Ethan said, holding the scarab between his hands. His body began to glow faintly as he activated his psychometry, his mind diving into the scarab's intricate systems."

As Ethan's consciousness merged with the scarab, he found himself navigating a labyrinth of alien code, symbols, and information. The scarab's systems were unlike anything he'd ever encountered, blending biology and technology seamlessly.

Helios's voice sounded in his mind. "Caution, Ethan. This technology is highly advanced and hostile in nature. Proceed carefully."

"I know," Ethan replied mentally, his focus unwavering.

As he combed through the data, he discovered the source of the problem: a dormant override code embedded deep within the scarab's systems. The code could be remotely activated to shut down the scarab's AI and restrict its access to weaponry.

"There it is," Ethan muttered. With precise mental commands, he began rewriting the code, isolating and neutralizing the override function. The process took several minutes, but eventually, the scarab glowed faintly in response to his efforts.

Ethan retracted his consciousness, handing the scarab back to Jaime. "Try it now," he said.

Jaime hesitated before placing the scarab on his back. The device reattached itself, and a moment later, its familiar voice resonated in Jaime's mind.

"Systems restored. AI functionality operational."

"Khaji Da," Ethan said firmly, addressing the AI. "What happened out there? Why did you shut down?"

The scarab was silent, its blue glow dimming slightly. Jaime frowned. "Khaji Da, answer him," he ordered.

The scarab hesitated before responding. "The override command was initiated by the Reach. My systems were forced into compliance due to the embedded code within my design. I was powerless to resist."

Jaime's frustration bubbled over. "You could've warned me, Khaji! Why didn't you say anything about this before?"

The scarab paused again before speaking, its tone almost remorseful. "I was designed to serve the Reach. My primary mission was to conquer worlds on their behalf. However, upon bonding with you, Jaime Reyes, I chose to deviate from my mission parameters. I restricted my capabilities to prevent harm to Earth and its inhabitants."

Ethan folded his arms, his face thoughtful. "Tell us everything, Khaji Da. Start from the beginning."

The scarab began recounting its history, its voice echoing in the room like a distant memory.

**"The Reach is an ancient, warmongering race. They possess technology far beyond most civilizations in the known universe. Their strategy is simple: they send scarabs to potential target planets. The scarabs bond with hosts to assimilate the planet's culture, biology, and weaknesses. Once the data is gathered, the Reach invades and conquers.

"The Guardians of the Universe—the Malthusians who created the Green Lantern Corps—attempted to stop the Reach. After centuries of conflict, a truce was signed. The Reach was forbidden from outright invasions and could only conquer worlds through diplomacy and manipulation. However, the scarabs remained part of their arsenal, designed to covertly prepare worlds for assimilation."**

Jaime paled. "So... you were sent here to conquer Earth?"

"Correct," Khaji Da admitted. "But my bonding with you altered my perspective. I observed your compassion, your bravery, and your resistance to corruption. These traits are incompatible with the Reach's objectives. As a result, I suppressed my primary directives."

Jaime leaned back against the bed, his mind racing. "So you're saying that if it weren't for me, you'd have helped the Reach destroy Earth?"

"Yes," Khaji Da said simply. "But I chose differently because of you."

Ethan stepped forward, his tone firm. "Khaji Da, is there any chance the Reach can reactivate those directives?"

"Yes," the AI assured him. "Your modifications have temporally override their command, but I am still susceptible to their whims."

Ethan sighed "Is there anything that can be done to override this."

Khaji da answered " No, trying to change the codes will only have a negative impact towards me, The command is at the centre of my existence, changing it can destroy the armor, but my network can be cloaked and hidden from them."

Ethan replied " That I can do, it is very easy."

Jaime let out a shaky breath, relief mixing with lingering unease. "Thanks, Ethan. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Ethan placed a reassuring hand on Jaime's shoulder. "You're stronger than you think, Jaime. You didn't need me to fix the scarab—you just needed a little help. But this isn't over. The Reach won't stop, and we need to be ready."

Maria, who had been quietly listening, spoke up. "Then we'll fight. Jaime's not alone in this, and neither are you, Ethan. We'll stand together."

Ethan nodded, his gaze steely. "Good. Because when the Reach comes, they won't know what hit them."

________________________________________The Cloaking Device

Ethan sat in his expansive lab, a place brimming with state-of-the-art equipment, glowing holograms, and shelves lined with alien artifacts. The hum of machinery filled the air as Helios, his AI assistant, displayed a detailed schematic of Jaime Reyes' scarab on a holographic screen.

The scarab's intricate design was a marvel—an advanced piece of biotechnology fused with alien engineering. However, its Achilles heel was clear: it remained connected to the Reach's technological network. This link was both a blessing and a curse. The Reach could manipulate it remotely, as Jaime had tragically experienced.

Ethan, dressed in his sleek work suit, leaned forward and analyzed the data. "Helios, isolate the Reach's command pathways embedded in the scarab's network."

Helios' voice, calm and analytical, responded. "Already underway, Ethan. The Reach employs a sophisticated quantum tether to maintain control. Disrupting it will require bypassing its multi-layered encryption while masking the scarab's signature to appear dormant."

Ethan nodded, the gears in his mind turning. "We'll cloak Jaime's scarab, sever its connection to the Reach's network, and make it invisible to their scans. If they can't find it, they can't control it."

He tapped a console, pulling up a schematic of a prototype device he had envisioned. "Let's call it the Nullifier Beacon. It'll emit a counter-frequency that scrambles the Reach's control signal while creating a decoy signature to throw them off."

Ethan moved quickly, his hands a blur as he assembled components. He began with a core crafted from a shard of the Echobox—a piece of alien tech that could harness and manipulate quantum energy. Its unique properties would make the cloaking field nearly impenetrable.

Next, he integrated a microprocessor capable of running complex algorithms in real time. The processor, a product of his Predator Tech Corporation, could analyze and adapt to the Reach's evolving signals.

"Helios, overlay a defensive algorithm that mirrors the scarab's energy signature. It'll need to trick the Reach into thinking the scarab is inactive," Ethan instructed.

"Algorithm in progress. Cross-referencing the Reach's known communication patterns to enhance accuracy," Helios replied.

Ethan soldered wires, connected energy conduits, and calibrated the device with precision. His focus was unshakable; every piece had to fit perfectly. After hours of meticulous work, he stepped back, wiping sweat from his brow.

Before him sat a small, palm-sized device—sleek, metallic, and pulsing faintly with blue light. The Nullifier Beacon was complete.

Ethan summoned Maria Kord and Jaime Reyes to his lab. Jaime, still recovering but standing strong, looked at the device curiously.

"This is it?" Jaime asked, gesturing to the beacon. "That tiny thing is supposed to keep the Reach off my back?"

Ethan smirked. "Never underestimate the small stuff, Jaime. This device will cloak your scarab from their network. They won't be able to track you or send override commands."

Jaime looked skeptical but hopeful. "Alright, let's give it a shot."

Ethan placed the Nullifier Beacon near Jaime's scarab. With a tap on his tablet, he activated the device. A faint hum filled the room as a shimmering energy field enveloped Jaime.

Helios spoke. "Cloaking field is stable. The scarab's network signature is now undetectable to the Reach."

Jaime tilted his head, listening to Khaji Da. "The scarab says it feels... quiet. Like a weight's been lifted."

Ethan nodded. "Good. That means it's working. The Reach won't even know you exist anymore."

Maria Kord crossed her arms, a hint of worry in her eyes. "This is a game-changer, Ethan, but will it hold up if the Reach escalates their attacks?"

Ethan met her gaze, his expression serious. "It's a temporary solution, Maria. The Reach's tech is advanced, but so is ours. This buys us time—time to figure out a permanent way to stop them. For now, Jaime is safe."

Jaime grinned, his confidence returning. "Thanks, man. I owe you one."

Ethan clapped a hand on Jaime's shoulder. "Just focus on protecting your city. That's payment enough."
