Dave’s deranged dreamworld

Chapter 2: life born anew

CHAPTER 2: Life Born Anew

At this very moment, his world, although empty and devoid, was about to be transformed anew. Little by little, the white canvas of the land gained color. creating the landscapes, from the lowest depths of the oceans to the greatest mountain tops. The trees became forests, the hilltops became mountains, and the riverbanks became oceans.

Yet in his heart and soul he still craved the answer to one all important question…

“Who am I?”

That question resonated throughout his entire being as The world was constantly evolving at an unfathomable speed. He Populated the world with strange and curious beasts. from the birds of the netherlands to the critters and fairies of the woods, he created them all. Each race and species, though inherently different, all understood and spoke of the same language, as if gifted from a higher being.

Through their many differences the races began to feud, and from the feuds wars were born. From the wars, chaos, and from the chaos, madness was instilled as the law of the land. Citys burned, deception was common and entire nations would be sold off by their very own kind. Everyone did what they could to gain power.

“Who am I?” rang over and over in his mind as the entire world cried out in the chaos and madness. The body count rose to unspeakable amounts, the cries of the worlds inhabitants were unanswered. Hope itself was gone, and just when all life seemed to have given up hope, he came into existence in the fields of Asgarth. The question was answered.

“I am Dave.” These were his final thoughts as he made his last creation.

Fires burned in the distance and howls, screeches and screams could be heard in the nearby forests that surrounded him. A bead of sweat dripped down his face from the terror that instilled inside of him. The blood curdling screeches became louder and sent shivers throughout Dave's entire body. The creatures shrieks allowed Dave to witness firsthand the deranged and maniacal world that he had created.

Not more than a moment had past yet he could start to hear the cackling laughs the beasts of the woods. Closer and closer they would creep, until at last they started to become visible in the bushes and fauna that surrounded him.

“A human… and a child at that…” the beasts would repeat in the distance to each other…

Dave knew their intent, and though he was terrified beyond belief, he composed himself and began talking to the strange mysterious creatures in a loud authoritative voice

“Henry sent me!” … a short pause came as the many whispers in the woods soon fell shortly into silence… “You can do what you want with me, but word will get back to him. And you can be sure this place will be next…” dave said with a slight stutter of fear.

Dave spoke the first words that came to his mind. unsure of if his bluff would work, and quite unsure of exactly how these words came to him… yet somehow he knew the history of the wars of the land, and he even knew the names of the kings and leaders.

In fact it seemed the more dave tried to think and question about how he knew these things… the more he would recall about this strange, enchanted world. The more he would recall, the more questions seemed to arise. But now was not the time for that…

The beasts began to retract into the woods at the mere words of henry… and dave began to continue the path throughout the dark twisted woods. The beasts continued to follow at a distance, some through fear, others were merely curious, and others had doubts about daves claim altogether.

As time grew on the beasts could see dave was just wandering throughout the forest aimlessly, with no real regard to direction or path. They began to doubt his claims more and more and as night began to fall on the forest their impatience grew as well.

“Kill him! … eat him! …” the beasts could be heard from afar. Dave though scared, kept up his front and tried to walk with composure. It wasn’t long before the beasts caught on however, and he found himself surrounded.

Then, suddenly, a tall man came out from the woods. From what he was wearing he was clearly that of nobility and did not fear the beasts at all.

“Ah, sir Aaron, we’ve been expecting you!” the man called over to dave while waving his hands greeting him.

“Aar-…?” but before dave could let out a word the strange man began to cut him off again. “Ahhh yes… Aaron… you were heading into the city by order of henry correct? Let me accompany you… and the lot of you! Go back where you belong!” the man wasn’t afraid of the creatures in the slightest, on the contrary, they seemed to be the ones riddled with fear at his words. they began to disperse as they were ordered.

Unsure of who the man was, or what his motives were, it was clearly in daves best interest to accompany him. dave was much obliged and went on with the man following where he went. But as time grew on, something didn’t seem quite right.

Dave followed slightly behind the man, for he was unsure of who he was. It was that moment when dave understood why exactly he was confused. He didn’t know who this man was. When he tried to recall exactly who this man was, or his name, or anything about him, he couldn’t despite having vast knowledge over the world and its inhabitants. Dave kept his distance but continued to follow the strange man, unsure of where he was taking him.

Dave continued to follow the strange man from a distance, and before long they came to an abandoned cabin. Although wary, Dave followed the man inside.

“it would be unwise to carry on into the depths of the night, we shall take sanctuary here.” The old man said with a smirk on his face.

“A…And your confident that this flimsy log cabin can keep us safe from those beasts?” dave stuttered

“My boy, you cleary have the wrong idea about this world…” the man spoke to dave while assuming that he knew he had created the world. Dave having only just landed in his newfound creation hours ago, had nothing to go off of but his vast knowledge of the world, bluffs and the actions of others. “You didnt create everything my boy, for there are things in this world, that even you dont know, am I correct?” the old man said to dave while tapping on an old abandoned lantern.

The floor boards of the cabin began to suddenly open up, and beneath the chimney of the cabin a passageway began to be made.

“Ill tell you this now, our master has taken great interest in you, you know nothing of our world so only come if your keen on taking a gamble with us. Our master doesn’t like spineless bastards. The choice is yours… however, I doubt your get a better offer from the beasts that dwell outside” the old mans cackled laughter echoed as he continued to walk down into the passageway.

A few moments passed and the mans shadow began to fade into the distant depths of the tunnel. Dave calmed himself and began to follow suit down the hidden pathway. Though dimly lit, there was light shining through the dirt enclosed tunnel from the various torches that were lit every so often. lighting was far and few between, and random at best. Dave could only keep on treading along the pathway, walking through the depths of the dark damp tunnel, unaware of exactly where it was leading him.

The maniacal sounds of laughter and screams could be heard in the distance. Would he die here? Was this indeed a trap? dave couldn't keep from thinking of these things. But he couldn’t turn around now, the entrance to the path was closed and there was nowhere else to go. He knew he had to stay strong and tread onward.

“The next torch, at least to the next one. Ill just keep focusing on walking.” Dave would repeat over and over to keep his mind off the fact of what he was doing. To keep the sanity inside him from complete disarray.

The distance from one lit torch to another were very long. And the damp underground tunnel didnt help either. The drips of water further worried dave. Dave began to wonder where the old man went to. Surely he should of caught up by now? Was the man even still in this tunnel?

The thought of a secret passageway began to worry dave. But after what felt like an eternity, dave began to see not 1 torch, but 2 lit torches side by side, each one on a different side of a door. What lay beyond this door would surely seal daves fate, but before dave could decide on an action to take, the door began to slowly creak open.
