Chapter 7: 03 Wes- Photographing the Ghost Kid

To be read after "What You Want 4"

Wes heard there was a genie in town, so at the game Saturday night, he was ready with his camera. He kept a watchful eye out for anything otherworldly, which meant he photographed exactly when the star quarterback turned into a hulking beast. He even managed to take a picture of the genie right before she disappeared. He doubted the pictures would develop properly, but he had to try.

The ghost kid showed up and did something to the beast-quarterback and went behind the bleachers. Wes ran to follow, just glimpsing a glowing light suck the beast into a tube. He took a quick picture. The ghost kid spun around, and Wes snapped another photo.

"Finally!" Wes said, lowering his camera for a better look.

The ghost kid had stark white hair puffed around his pale face. He had neon green eyes that sparked a feeling of almost-recognition. He wore a black and white jumpsuit that fit him perfectly.

"Can I ask you some questions?" Wes asked.

The ghost kid looked angry. Oops. "No!" he said and destroyed Wes's camera with a small shot of green that matched his eyes.

"Hey!" Wes said, massaging his hands.

"Leave me alone!" the ghost kid growled before flying off.

Wes stood gaping at the air. Were shadows coming off the ghost kid? Did his eyes glow brighter when he growled?

Wes shivered and came back to himself. He looked down at the rubble of his camera. An awkward conversation with his parents awaited him.

Wes was grounded for two weeks, and he wouldn't get a new camera until Christmas. He tried to explain that it wasn't his fault, but his parents didn't believe his ghost story. Even though it was the truth!

But on Monday, everyone was talking about the ultra-cutsie version of Paulina that appeared at the mall movie theater the day before, as well as the total failure that was the football game on Saturday. Wes heard rumors that the beast that appeared during the game and the "anime-Paulina" were related somehow. He figured that was the case. Just… What could the connection be?

Then there was another rumor that a ghost boy was playing pranks all over town and the school. Was it the one Wes saw Saturday night? He didn't think so. The black and white ghost kid had been around for a while. Why would he start pranking randomly one day? It just didn't make sense to Wes. That meant there was another ghost boy.

Too bad Wes was grounded. He couldn't investigate. Then again, maybe he shouldn't investigate. The first ghost kid was scary enough. Now there were two?

No, he had to investigate, even if it was scary.

The rest of the week was quiet. The prankster and genie seemed to disappear as quickly as they appeared. There weren't any more sightings of the black and white ghost kid, either. At the same time, an illness spread around the school, and a bunch of kids were out sick. Wes was one of the lucky ones who didn't get sick.
