Danmachi: Strongest Familia

Chapter 153: Chapter 153: The Path to Prosperity for a Capitalist with a Black Heart

As of now, Orario doesn't have a full-time alchemist, though some adventurers have alchemical abilities. Take, for instance, Asfi Al Andromeda, the versatile member of the Hermes family.

"What a pity! Well, I'll bring the city's alchemy technology to new heights!" Renata declared confidently.

"Eh... I wish you success," Misha replied, offering a somewhat reluctant blessing after a moment's pause.

Renata was unfazed by Misha's lukewarm response. All she could think of now was convincing Singed to revive the glory of alchemical advancements with her when she returned.

Back in Valoran, Singed had refused to collaborate. But things were different now; they were teammates in the same family, making cooperation far more feasible.

However, a significant issue loomed—their family funds were scarce. Despite acquiring a substantial sum from Sol, most of it had gone toward refurbishing the family residence and purchasing weapons and equipment. Relying indefinitely on Sol's financial support wasn't a sustainable solution.

She looked to Morgana and Kyle, both of whom had become self-sufficient. But the methods they used weren't feasible for the Janna Familia, which lacked high-level adventurers. Four Level 1 adventurers couldn't dive into dungeons and generate the wealth the family needed.

It was more practical to earn a fortune through business ventures. Based on information Misha provided, Orario's prosthetics market was booming—demand far exceeded supply, and there were few capable of creating artificial limbs. Yet, countless adventurers needed them.

Seeing an opportunity in this unfilled niche, Renata's capitalist instincts came alive. This untapped market was a prime opportunity, practically calling her name. And with her alchemical skills, making prosthetics was child's play.

Determined, Renata spoke with Janna to officially reposition the Janna family as a commercial enterprise. Being a newly established family made it easier to pivot toward this goal. With Misha's assistance, they took care of all the guild paperwork without much effort on Kai's part.

Observing Misha's adept handling of affairs, Renata began considering recruiting her. Within the Janna family, there was no one to assist her with daily responsibilities. Singed focused on developing alchemical drugs, Jinx worked on weapon crafting, and Mundo busied himself at the door.

Renata bore the full burden of managing the family's business and daily affairs. She longed for a helper, someone to share the load; managing both internal and external matters was exhausting. Even though there were only four of them, Renata could foresee a steady stream of internal tasks, especially when Mundo and Jinx went off on adventures.

For now, though, she had to handle it all herself. "Singed," she said as they left the guild, "you need to produce a potion we can mass-market soon, or I'll have to interrupt your experiments halfway."

Singed was indeed their best hope for creating quickly marketable products, like potions and equipment. Although Jinx's weapon development was promising, Singed was more reliable for potion crafting. His single-minded pursuit of knowledge often led him to sacrifice his sanity, a trait Renata could use to her advantage.

"What kind of potion do you need?" Singed rasped.

Renata smiled, pleased at his willingness to cooperate. "A healing potion would be ideal—something every adventurer would find indispensable."

"I'll need materials. I can't make potions out of thin air. Having samples of this world's potions would also help," he replied.

"I'll ensure you have plenty of money, but you'll have to gather the materials yourself," Renata said generously. She had already secured control of the family's finances from Janna. To expedite the production and eventual mass-marketing of Singed's potions, Renata was willing to put other family projects on hold.

"Leave it to me, but I'll need a quiet space for a lab," Singed insisted.

"As an alchemist, I understand. You can pick any room in the residence."

"Fine, as long as it's for a healing potion," he muttered.

"Don't waste your talent on trivial things," she warned. "Prepare a variety of potions to help establish our reputation. We'll need a range of products to move forward."

"Ugh, what a bother. I can't promise every potion will be producible." Singed grumbled.

"As long as the healing potion can be mass-produced. Remember... rarity drives value." A capitalist gleam sparkled in Renata's eye. Healing potions in Orario weren't hard to find, but by having various people purchase different potions, Renata hoped to create the illusion of scarcity.

Back at the Janna family residence, Singed had commandeered a side hall, formerly part of the Apollo family's quarters, as his temporary lab. The spacious area was filled with alchemical equipment, most of which had consumed a hefty portion of Sol's funding.

Singed wasn't skilled at organizing, and his tools were scattered in an apparently haphazard fashion, yet there was an odd sense of order to the chaos—each piece was within easy reach.

Looking over the table brimming with potions with each kind and even encyclopaedia Renata provided, Singed nodded approvingly. Although Singed dislikes her capitalist tendencies, he couldn't deny her efficiency.
