Chapter 151: Chapter 150 - Freedom.
[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]
Third Person POV
Orario.
...
...
"You are free..." Lucius heard the man speaking as he approached his cell, opening it.
He had been sent there after the gods' vote, acquitting him, but still with a mission issued by the guild outside the city of Orario.
Lucius wasn't upset about this displeasure at all, except for the fact that Freya had spoken a little about his past, which deeply enraged him. Aside from that, things couldn't have gone better after he had destroyed part of the city. He knew many people saw it as an attack against Orario and might face some retaliation, but it didn't matter—after all, it was impossible to please everyone.
Lucius stood up calmly, raising his hands for the man using a key to remove his anti-magic shackles. Then, with a click, he was finally free.
"This is much better..." Lucius murmured, still in tattered clothes. Now able to use magic, he quickly began to shape it to restore his clothes to perfection. As the fabric grew, connecting once again, it finally returned to its original state.
The guard said nothing but looked surprised as they started to leave the place. Lucius now felt much better, with his clothes fixed, wounds healed, and feeling clean.
"Lucius!" Hestia was waiting for him at that moment.
"Hestia..." Lucius greeted her.
"I'm so glad you're okay... let's go home now," she said, and he nodded.
"Lucius Drakenar..." As they began to walk away, someone approached them. It was none other than Royman Mardeel.
"What can I do for the guild leader?" Lucius asked, approaching him.
"Hestia-Sama." He greeted the goddess before turning back to Lucius, trying to maintain a serious look. "Ouranos-Sama asked me to pass on some instructions before you leave for your mission. He'll discuss the mission in an audience," he said, and Lucius nodded, taking the paper.
"All right... see you," Lucius replied in a calm tone as Hestia followed him out.
"Do you want to pass through the city or teleport directly?" he asked.
"I think avoiding the city after what happened would be better," Hestia commented, and Lucius nodded, touching her shoulder and teleporting directly to the mansion. He wanted to see a few things before going after the others in the dungeon; after all, someone had to let them know that things were fine now.
Meanwhile, in another part of the city, a meeting was starting.
"Riveria is going away for a while?!" Tiona couldn't believe it.
This was a conversation they had earlier in the morning, before the audience or before Riveria went to visit Lucius in his cell. Loki ended up suggesting something no one expected: allowing Riveria to leave with Lucius as soon as she learned about the possible choices regarding Lucius after the evidence and who might take his side.
'I'm not doing this because I want my daughter with that scoundrel! She should stay as far away from him as possible, but we have to protect our future ventures since we decided to sponsor his project!' Loki exclaimed when they were given the mission in the morning, giving her excuse for letting Riveria go. But everyone knew she cared about her daughter.
As much as Loki wanted to resist the idea of Lucius and Riveria traveling alone, deep down, she knew it would be the best for her daughter. Riveria was visibly worried about Lucius, and both Finn and Gareth also supported the decision in the end.
Now they were gathered in a new meeting to discuss the gods' decision in Lucius' trial, which was the only one held in Orario, while the others managed to escape. The trial took place around noon, lasting until mid-afternoon. Now, in the late afternoon, they were gathering to deliver news of the outcome at Twilight Manor.
"Yes, I intend to participate in this mission with Lucius," Riveria replied to Tiona after she asked.
Everyone had different expressions upon hearing this. Finn raised a concern at that moment. "Just be careful, Riveria. It won't take long for your father to discover your connection with the human mage; you two might become targets during the mission," he ended up advising her.
Riveria merely nodded, remaining serious and patient. Their relationship wasn't accepted by the elves, as Riveria's father would likely try to keep their bloodline pure. He would be shocked to learn that his daughter had already lain with a man of another race and that they were planning to marry.
However, Riveria trusted Lucius's words. He didn't care about the fury of the high elves or her father and assured her that he would find a way through all of it so that they could live out the rest of their lives together, with a family. She ended up accepting her situation, going so far as to reject her lineage and the throne that was her birthright, doubting that she could claim it after everything that had happened and with the elves not accepting her relationship.
"How long will you be gone?" Tione asked, while Riveria shook her head.
"I don't know. It could be months, maybe even years. It depends on the mission Lucius takes from Ouranos," Riveria replied.
She turned to Lefiya, who seemed cautious, looking as if she didn't quite understand what was going on.
"I know I'm leaving, but soon you'll be ready... Lefiya. Just train hard and try to strengthen yourself, but don't push yourself to the point of taking too many risks. Do you understand?" Riveria said with a stern tone, so that the girl wouldn't do anything reckless like she had been doing lately, trying to reach higher levels, even risking herself against monsters when her role was that of a support mage. She also needed to build a solid foundation before leveling up, just like Riveria had done. After all, she wasn't like some people who could do it quickly, like Bell and Lucius.
Riveria's gaze also fell on Aiz, who had been silent the entire time, observing everything with a neutral look but with a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
"I'll be away for some time. Don't do anything reckless either. I don't know what the Guild or Ouranos will decide about the Xenos, but things are more complicated than just killing them or not. Just listen to Finn and Gareth; they will guide you on the right path," Riveria commented.
Aiz remained silent, with nothing to say. To Riveria, these two girls were practically like daughters, and it was no surprise that she had the nickname "mom" within the Loki Familia.
"Don't let that mage get stronger than you, Riveria," Bete commented from a corner for the first time, maintaining a serious expression.
Riveria nodded and returned to her family. "Anyway, Lucius will let me know when we're leaving... so we better train hard in the days I have left here," Riveria said to Lefiya and Aiz.
"A week until I leave..." Lucius murmured as he read the letter from the Guild. He had a week to stay in the city and prepare, with at least two audiences with Ouranos scheduled that week so he could explain everything in detail. The document also gave authorization for Riveria to accompany him, after Loki had requested her mage to join him, which was perfect.
Lucius was sitting at the main table of the familia while eating a bit, looking at the Guild's letter.
"How long do you think you'll be gone?" Hestia couldn't help but ask, approaching him.
"Some time," Lucius murmured, focused on the paper that lacked many details about the mission. "Anyway, I think it's time for me to find the others," he said, setting the paper aside as Hestia nodded.
Lucius hadn't eaten anything since yesterday, so he wanted to have a little meal before heading out. Now that it was already getting dark, it was a good opportunity for him to leave. He set the empty plate aside.
"It's very likely that I won't be back today, Hestia-Sama," he said, stretching, as he would need to talk with the Xenos and even find a new place for them.
Hestia then watched him leave, and he disappeared the moment he passed through the door, reappearing soon after in the sky above Orario, moving towards the dungeon entrance as he flew over the city.
"..." His gaze fell on the area he had destroyed yesterday, all devastated, with several tents set up nearby since the people had nowhere to stay, likely provided by the guild. His title box must have received at least a thousand derogatory nicknames for him at this moment.
At the dungeon entrance, people were still talking about the events of the previous night and the chaos that ensued, from the tremors to the appearance of monsters, adventurers fighting each other, and even the appearance of a monster called Juggernaut, especially with the news that Lucius had been acquitted of all charges this afternoon.
"Hey, that's not fair! How can he be acquitted of everything he did? What are the gods thinking?" people were commenting at the entrance.
"I don't know... but there must be a reason, right?" another replied.
The one standing guard at that moment was none other than Edd, an old acquaintance of Lucius from when he was part of the Heimdall Familia.
"Hey, can you all shut up?" Edd exclaimed. "Don't you see the gods have decided something, and you think you can question their decision?" he mocked the adventurers.
A man, despite being angry, didn't know how to respond, only clenching his teeth and giving up on arguing, walking away from there.
It was a moment later when someone appeared out of nowhere with a teleport, as Lucius reappeared in the middle of the place, his cape swaying and immediately drawing attention, while his clothes and appearance quickly gave away who he was.
"Hey, it's him!"
"Now he's walking around free... So it's really true!"
Lucius ignored the comments and moved forward.
"Hello, Edd, it's been a while since I last saw you..." Lucius commented, speaking to the gate guard, who nodded upon seeing him, although a bit cautious, still remembering how this guy had struggled in the beginning but, without warning, started leveling up and gaining powers beyond anything he had seen in all these years.
"It's true, Lucius. I heard you were acquitted of your charges, so you're free?" he asked.
"Yes, we had a good discussion with the gods, but in the end, I was acquitted with some conditions and will have to leave Orario for a while on a mission. Anyway, I'll be entering the dungeon. I need to find my family, after all," Lucius said, smiling.
"Just don't bring any monsters here; that'll cause another mess!" Edd commented, more as a joke than a warning.
Lucius smiled, nodded, and disappeared again, teleporting to the dungeon's first entrance.
It didn't take him long to reach the 18th floor in less than 30 minutes, with his flight and teleportation, and he was now in Rivira. He quickly flew over the floor, heading straight for the 19th floor, and continuing down to the 23rd floor, where he swiftly entered the Xenos' lair.
They were there conversing at that moment with the Hestia Familia among them, already familiarized, while a small blue-haired girl was eating something and watching cautiously. The atmosphere didn't seem very good, as they were deciding whether or not to go to the surface to see what had happened in the city at that moment.
However, they were quickly surprised as Lucius appeared in their midst.
"Hello, everyone! I hope you're all doing well after all that chaos..." he greeted everyone, both the Xenos and his familia, with a smile.
