Chapter438-In-Depth Investigation
Demon Abyss, Deepest Part.
In the hazy drifting mist, Rachel's body curled into a ball in an abnormal state. Her bones were twisted, creaking with an eerie sound, an indescribable weirdness.
Owen's expression changed slightly. Just as he was about to step in to help Rachel resolve this, he suddenly saw from the deepest part of the Skull Island, a blood-colored streak of light bursting forth, leaving a long trail of fire in the air.
Flame Sword!
Upon seeing the flying flame light, Owen quickly extended his hand to grasp it in his palm.
At this moment, the Flame Sword exuded a terrifying aura, as though it had been unsealed and was a world-ending weapon, emitting an extremely unique destructive aura.
The flickering flames burned through the air, leaving black holes in their wake.
At the same time, Owen sharply felt that there was a drop of pure black blood on the blade of the Flame Sword, like a strange black pupil seeping into the blade, emanating an eerie, oppressive glow that seemed to suppress the world.
Under this eerie light, both Owen and Rachel felt a noticeable decrease in the pressure weighing upon them.
In the light, both Owen and Rachel saw an exceptionally strange vision.
In the endless starry sky, stars emitting faint light rotated and gathered together to form an unmatched, supreme throne.
This throne oppressed the entire plane, as if it were the ruler of all things in the world, containing infinite majesty.
However, at this moment, on this noble and ancient throne, black mist suddenly dispersed, and then a strange face appeared on the throne.
This face was covered in scars from swords and knives, as if it had undergone countless life-and-death battles.
Though the skull was intact, the eye sockets were deeply sunken, with no trace of eyes, resembling two hollow black holes, from which dried black blood dripped down.
The moment Owen saw this face, his scalp tingled with horror!
From this mutilated ancient corpse, Owen felt an unprecedented sense of oppression!
Even though he had now broken through to the Celestial God rank and his power had increased nearly tenfold, he still felt an overwhelming sense of deathly danger from this mutilated corpse!
"This is the legendary 'Old One'? Even though it's been dead for who knows how long, it's still this terrifying!"
Owen sucked in a cold breath.
Just the oppressive aura from this corpse was beyond their current ability to withstand!
It was unimaginable how terrifying the combat strength of this ancient Old One must have been when it was alive!
At this moment, a massive shadow suddenly erupted from within the Skull Island, piercing through the constraints of time and space, reverberating in their ears.
"Leave now! This is not a place where you later comers should be!"
As the voice echoed, Rachel, whose body had already been on the verge of being crushed by the oppressive aura, was struck as if by some kind of hammer. She was sent flying, spitting blood, with nearly all her bones shattered.
Had it not been for the significant enhancement of her physical body after combining with Owen earlier, she would have been reduced to a blood mist from the impact.
And now, with Owen's power surpassing Rachel's in every aspect, he quickly stood in front of her, shielding her from the terrifying Old One's oppressive force.
"This Old One… Could it still be alive?"
Rachel looked at Owen's back in shock and asked in fear.
Although she didn't know what exactly the Old One was, neither Loki nor any of the Forbidden Zones had ever given her such a terrifying sense of oppression!
It felt like, in front of the Old One, even someone like herself, a Celestial God, was nothing more than a larger insect!
Owen grasped Rachel's cold hand and slowly said, "No! This Old One has long perished. Otherwise, we would have died the moment we laid eyes on it, or gone mad."
"The words just now weren't directed at us."
After Owen spoke, an ancient voice once again echoed through the heavens and earth.
"Since you've seen my throne, why not kneel?"
The voice surged like a flood, crushing the void around Owen.
Owen's expression grew solemn. He protected Rachel behind him and waited until the sound waves dissipated before he sighed in relief.
At this moment, Rachel wiped the thin sweat from her forehead and spoke with unease, "Such a terrifying voice… Who was the Old One talking to? Why are they all so terrifying?"
In Rachel's view, the Old Ones were unimaginable, colossal beings, and she couldn't fathom what could possibly stand against them.
Owen furrowed his brow and thought for a moment before slowly saying, "If I'm not mistaken, the source of the other voice should be the 'Primordial One'."
"The Primordial One?" Rachel was stunned. She had never heard of such a name, nor had she seen any records of the 'Old Ones' or the 'Primordial One' in the academy or elsewhere. They didn't seem to belong to this plane's history.
She immediately turned her gaze to Owen.
Earlier, Lord of Stars had mentioned that Owen didn't belong to this ancient history. And now Owen knew the names of these terrifying beings—did he have some kind of connection with them?
After all, Owen's talent and strength were so overwhelming that all other prodigies paled in comparison!
Owen glanced at Rachel, who was staring at him, seemingly knowing what she was thinking. He shook his head and said,
"Strictly speaking, I have no connection with them."
"You can understand the Primordial One as the initial state of this universe—unknown, terrifying, and immensely vast."
"As for the Old Ones, I don't know their origins, but it seems they became enemies of the Primordial One due to Devour."
Owen didn't know much more. As he spoke, he seemed to recall something and placed the Sunfire Sword before Rachel's eyes.
"Do you see the black blood on it? It's said that a drop of the Old One's blood once wounded The Celestial, causing a catastrophe that swept across the heavens and earth."
Hearing this, Rachel was shaken.
Because in ancient historical records, there had been a catastrophe that nearly wiped out all living things!
It was said that The Celestial was severely injured by a drop of blood, which caused a blood rain lasting ten years and a terrifying flood that followed!
The vast majority of living beings perished in that flood of blood.
Many ancient forces, as well as ancient beings, had recorded the unprecedented flood in stones, carvings, and murals.
She had previously thought it was just a myth invented by the ancients to resist The Celestial, but now hearing Owen's words, that ancient legend might actually be true!
"So, the Old One seated on the throne is the one responsible for that great disaster?"
Rachel looked at Owen with horror.
Owen nodded. This could be confirmed, although the reasons behind it were still unclear.
After all, this history was far too ancient!
But now that they had reached this place and seen the ancient Old One and the remnants left behind, Owen was unwilling to simply leave without further exploration.
Looking at Owen's increasingly intense eyes, Rachel knew he couldn't hold back his restlessness. She was about to speak to dissuade him, but she understood that if they missed this opportunity, there might never be another chance like it. So, she silently supported Owen.
"Be careful in everything."
Owen smiled at her, then gripped the Flame Sword tightly and charged toward the Skull Island.
Owen's speed was incredible. In just a few breaths, he had already reached the throne.
Compared to the towering and majestic throne, Owen's current size was nothing but an insect, far smaller than the ancient carvings on the throne.
Just standing before the throne, a sense of insignificance welled up from deep within Owen.
This throne was ancient, as if it were the origin and end of all powers, the beginning and conclusion of all Order.
Though Owen didn't yet fully understand the Old One, this throne, left behind by such a terrifying existence, was undoubtedly extraordinary.
Anything related to this throne must have immense entanglements and conflicts!
After all, even if the Old One and the Primordial One had truly fallen, they remained unfathomable, unknowable beings.
But at the same time, extreme danger often signified extreme opportunities!
And Owen, at this moment, desperately needed the power to confront The Celestial and Loki!
