Chapter 63: Fusion Synchronisation
I managed to preserve one more fleece before they began to lose their properties.
I swung my iron blade against a few of their bodies, damaging their fleeces in the process.
I was simply paranoid that someone would notice the sheep's condition and would snoop around to find out who was responsible for clearing this task.
Although it was highly unlikely that something like that would happen, everyone had their secrets, especially the noble descendants.
The academy wouldn't dare try to pry into their secrets as long as they brought no harm to the academy.
However, I didn't want to leave any clues that would lead to Felix's discovery.
After I was done, I stored away their corpses one by one.
I quickly calculated the number of tasks I had earned from completing these tasks.
950 merit points for task 41. And 375 merit points for Task 45.
Adding up to a total of 1,325 merit points.
Despite their fearsome appearance, Jumping Fire Sheeps were so timid that they would go into hiding after being attacked by a predator, and wouldn't emerge from their hiding place until several days had passed.
Unless I wanted to stir up a commotion by eliminating them, chasing after them was a complete waste of effort.
"Let's go," I commanded.
Felix transformed into Cybernetic Swift Horned Panther Jet mode.
I hopped on him, and we soared into the skies.
Now that the quest was completed, there was another thing on my to-do list.
I wanted to test the remaining of my talent trait.
I hadn't been able to test them before due to my duel with Ivory and the series of circumstances that had followed after that.
It took a while, but with Felix's help, I managed to find a suitable prey.
A rabbit with black fur, elongated limbs with sharp claws, and fangs that stretched out of its mouth.
Sabre-tooth rabbit.
An early-stage Rank One magical beast, which I had spent most of my earlier days in the dungeon hunting, to earn merit points.
They were swift and agile, making them difficult prey for an opponent of similar strength.
"Capture it alive."
I tightened my grip on Felix as he soared toward the Sabre-tooth rabbit.
The breeze whipped against my face.
Before the Sabre-tooth rabbit could learn about its fate, Felix had already arrived above it and slammed his paws against its body.
The Sabre-tooth rabbit hurled forward and collided into the bark of a tree.
It landed on the grassy field, unconscious.
Felix landed on the ground.
I came down from his back and walked to the unconscious sabre-tooth rabbit.
Felix reverted from jet mode and followed me.
I took out a rope from my storage bag and tied it around the Sabre-tooth rabbit, securing it until it was completely bound.
I placed my hand over one of its hind legs and activated my talent traits.
Fusion Synchronisation!
Instantly, my hand shone with a mix of blue and silver glow.
Mana surged out of my palms and flowed into the sabre-tooth rabbit, hind leg, enveloping it entirely.
Something extraordinary occurred.
The sabre-tooth rabbit fur melted off its body. Flesh and tissues evaporated into thin air.
Bones and sinews contorted, transforming into an unknown black alloy.
As though everything that had just transpired was an illusion, everything knitted together. Flesh and tissues transformed into a reinforced joint with a black armoured plating over them.
Ding!
An unfamiliar status screen appeared before me.
[ Fusion Synchronisation complete. ]
[ Race: Sabre-tooth rabbit.
Lesser Beast - First Rank (10%)
Enhancements: Spring coil pistons (Left - Hing leg.)
Function: Enables short-range burst dashes. ]
I stopped channelling my mana.
A slight wave of weakness hit me.
Haa... Haa
I hadn't expected that transforming a part of a magical beast's body would consume not only my mana but also my stamina.
Fortunately, it was within the scope of what I could handle.
I pondered what could have transpired if I had attempted to transform its entire body into a cybernetic beast without first testing the effects on parts of its body.
I read through the status screen.
Unlike the Beast Cybernetic Enhancement that allowed me to turn my tamed magical beasts into cybernetic lifeforms, modifying their physiology or revert back to their natural beast form. The Fusion synchronisation level enabled me to love beyond their natural limits.
There were no options to revert them to their original state.
I pondered if I could awaken another talent trait for something like that as my talent, and the system's functions are unlocked over time.
Since the Sabre-tooth rabbit was still alive, I couldn't store it in the storage bag this way.
Killing it now would be a waste of time and effort.
I decided to take the risk to fully transform it into a Cybernetic beast.
"Keep watch over the surroundings. If I fall unconscious, and someone approaches, take both of me and it and flee towards a safer location," I commanded Felix.
"Understood, master," Felix nodded thoughtfully.
Felix was on guard, walking around us while scanning left and right.
I sighed in relief.
As usual, he knew when to joke around and when not to.
I turned to the Sabre-tooth rabbit. I activated my Fusion Synchronisation and channelled my mana into the rabbit.
The entire Sabre-tooth rabbit was bathed in a bluish and silver glow.
The sound of flesh and bones grinding against metal and steel resonated through the air, accompanied by the grinding of gears and whirring of servos.
A dull metallic sheen shone from the glowing light.
Suddenly, the glow began to dim.
The entire transformation lasted for a minute.
The sabre-tooth rabbit was wrapped in metallic armour, resembling more of a machine than a magical beast.
It worked.
I felt a wave of excitement wash through my body, before I was hit by a tremendous wave of tiredness, and collapsed on the ground beside the newly cybernetic Sabre-toothed rabbit.
Ding!
[ Fusion Synchronisation complete. ]
The status screen was updated.
[ Name:
Race: Cybernetic-Enhanced Sabre-Tooth Rabbit.
Lesser Beast - First Rank (50%)
Enhancements: Spring coil pistons (Hing legs), Razorclaw servo system (Forelimbs), Predator Bite Module(Fangs), Targeting Visor Overlar (eyes), Adaptive armour (Skin)
Fusion Compatibility: 3% ]
My eyelids were heavy.
I was unable to properly read through the beast's profile.
The whirring sound of servos resonated in my ears.
The cybernetic mechanism caused the sabre-tooth rabbit to awaken.
It turned to me.
This wasn't good!
Just as the rabbit was about to spring towards me, a large claw struck it and sent it flying away.
Felix appeared in front of me, shielding me from the cybernetic sabre-tooth rabbit attacks.
A loud snarl reverberated through the air.
"ROAARR!!"
Suddenly, the world around me turned hazy, and I swifly drifted into wonderland.
***
I woke up from my slumber feeling exhausted.
The memories of what had transpired before I fell unconscious flooded into my mind.
Felix appeared before me.
"Are you feeling better, master?" he asked.
I could sense a tinge of concern in his voice.
"I'm fine. I just feel a little dizzy."
"Where is it?" I turned my head and looked for the cybernetic sabre-tooth rabbit.
However, I couldn't find it.
Felix turned around and directed his gaze upwards.
I followed his gaze and saw that the cybernetic-enhanced Sabre-tooth rabbit was hanging down from a tree branch.
"He was a little feisty at first. But after a few bumps on the head and threatening to incinerate him with my horn, he came around," Felix said.
As though sensing my thoughts, Felix gave me a quick explanation.
I nodded.
"Bring him down."
"Although he won't dare do anything to harm you, he doesn't know how to control his strength yet, so, for your safety, I advise that you don't get too close to him," Felix advised.
I nodded in understanding.
I could sense a familiar, unique connection with the cybernetic-enhanced Sabre-tooth, similar to the connection between me and Felix.
This may be due to the combination of my talent and the system.
Since the rabbit wasn't my tamed beast, it made sense that the connection I had with it was weaker than that of Felix.
However, I was glad that Fusion Synchronisation could influence the magical beast, as it would make it easier to continue the upgrading in the future.
After all, it would be dangerous if I were suddenly attacked by my own cybernetic beasts and Felix wasn't there to protect me.
The connection between us could deepen if I increased the fusion compatibility.
Felix didn't delay in fulfilling my orders.
He leapt up into the air, nimbly climbing the tree up and quickly arriving at the branch that the cybernetic sabre-tooth rabbit was hanging off of.
Felix struck his claws against the branch, slicing it in half.
Crack!!
The branch fell to the ground.
The cybernetic sabre-tooth rabbit twisted its body midair and landed on the ground.
Booomm!!
The earth around it cracked, forming a small crater beneath its feet.
Dust rose from it, engulfing it before being carried away by the wind.
I was taken aback by its display of strength.
