Chapter 24: Screening (2)

Lights shut, every single person in their seats. No noise, just silence in the darkness, and in the next second, a massive screen in front of the audience lit up.

What appeared on the screen was Vault Studio's logo. After the logo, the movie finally began.

On the screen, multiple stars were falling in the sky, looking so beautiful, as if you just saw the most beautiful thing in the world. One of the stars fell from the heights toward the Earth, passing through the white clouds, giving an ethereal feeling to the scene.

As it came toward the Earth, it vanished above a lake. Soon, the room was filled with the narration of a girl's voice: "Some mornings, I just wake up crying, without knowing why." Then the voice changed to a male voice: "Whatever the dream that I had, I cannot remember after waking up."

The audience paid attention, trying not to miss a shot of the screen, since every single panel was something they had never seen before. These lakes and the Tokyo city shown on the screen were something obviously foreign to them.

The voices on the screen continued interchanging with each other, signifying that both characters suffered through something similar, and so their thoughts aligned as well. From their dialogues, they were talking about some sort of sense of loss and their dreams.

This conversation alone intrigued the audience, who had never seen anything other than straightforward action movies. This was new and interesting; they couldn't guess what was actually happening here, so all they could do was focus and try to understand.

The screen finally showed both the characters standing in a field as they gazed at a flying comet above them. Then the title of the movie appeared on the screen: "Your Name."

Then the music started, the music Arwin and Torin Zane together made. Although this was not the Sparkle song, this one was Dream Lantern. Originally, both were from the same artists, Radwimps.

The movie continued playing; lots of scenes appeared on the screen. More and more characters started appearing: Mitsuha and her family, which consisted of her sister and grandmother. Then Mitsuha's friends from school appeared.

Scenes of Mitsuha learning that she did some things that she never would have done if she was herself. Her being confused as to what was actually happening with her, strange writing on her hands.

Normally, any person from Earth could have deduced what was happening, but apparently, people of this world still had difficulty understanding what was actually happening. But there were still some in the audience who had already guessed what was happening: Ceylne, the branch head, Torin Zane, and a few others. They had realized that these characters were switching bodies.

They became even more invested in the movie than they already were. Even if others couldn't understand the story as well as these few, they were still enjoying it very much. Just the scenes of Mitsuha and her friends walking around the town, full of trees and greenery, were like some sort of medicine to these people who lived their entire lives in these steel jungles.

Murmurs like "wow," "so beautiful," "so elegant," "it just looks like a wow" kept sounding in the audience whenever the scenes of either the lake in town or other scenery appeared.

There were even some discussions regarding the sake ceremony that Mitsuha takes part in. People were intrigued by this concept of making alcohol.

If someone were to view inside the minds of these people at this moment, then they would discover that it's similar to a toddler who has just discovered that there is a much larger world outside his crib.

The story progressed on the screen, Taki being possessed by Mitsuha, then her living Taki's life. By this point in the story, even the slower ones had realized what was actually happening.

Then scenes of Taki's date with his crush appeared, then the scene where he finally discovers that he has feelings for Mitsuha.

From this point, the story takes a different turn; the lighthearted tone in the first part of the movie finally began to drain. But now, a more somber atmosphere came into the room.

By now, the audience had already connected with the characters; they wanted them to be together from that point, but a bombshell appeared: Taki's voice announcing that it was the last time they ever exchanged bodies.

From that point onward, the movie became a ride of an emotional roller coaster. Their emotions kept jumping from one to another. One second they were happy, then sad, and even sadder. Emotions kept jumping up and down.

Arwin also looked around at the people; toward the end of the movie, he could notice some movements, like people wiping their eyes, most likely from tears that fell. Well, even Arwin, who had just created this story, almost cried; there was no way that these emotion-deprived people wouldn't shed tears.

Sure enough, even the lady who interrupted him at the start of the speech was now wiping her tears. Even though she said so many things, even she couldn't stop herself.

Now, at the end of the movie, people were filled with different emotions; some of them felt as if somebody took a piece of their hearts out of their chest. It seemed like the audience was given the same sense of loss as Taki and Mitsuha at the start of the film.

When the film finally ended, clapping sounds erupted in the space, and for a full two minutes, nobody stopped clapping, as if they were trying to channel their emotions out with this act.

Arwin smiled at all of them from his spot; it seemed like this went exactly as he expected. The movie was a success; now only the voting for approval was left.

Arwin got up from his seat as he went in front of the screen again, looking at everyone in the audience. "So, my esteemed guests, were you guys satisfied with this little project of ours?" He asked the audience, and he made sure to lock eyes with that lady from before for a few seconds. Although now she was avoiding looking at him, trying hard not to meet his eyes.

As soon as the words echoed, both Torin Zane and the branch head got up and walked toward Arwin.

"This was splendid work; I can say you weren't lying when you said this would be something that we never experienced before," the branch head said as he patted Arwin's shoulders in congratulations.

"It's so good that I will only be thinking about this movie for the next month," added Torin Zane.

"Thank you for the praise," Arwin replied, a little embarrassed from all the praise.

The rest of the people also started to express their views about the movie, and all of them were positive. People even kept asking about the ending and everything, like what happened after they reunited, and whether they would get married.

Arwin just dodged those questions with a smile on his face, just like a true politician.

After the buzz had calmed down, the branch head clapped a few times to get everyone's attention. "So, I believe no one has any objection to releasing this movie in theaters?" He asked the audience.

As expected, no one objected; instead, they encouraged the branch head to confirm it.

"Then, Mr. Arwin West, as the branch head of Nebeska Galaxy's FAMD department, I am happy to announce that your movie has been selected to be released in FAMD's theaters," the branch head announced the news loud enough for everyone to hear it.

Now everything was set; the movie had been approved by FAMD for a theatrical release. The only thing left was to just wait for the release of the movie to see what kind of buzz it would create.
