Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Weighing Flesh — The Game of Human Nature
Zhou Quan and Zhou Hui trembled in fear.
How the hell were they supposed to choose?
Either option was a historically infamous method of torture.
“Come on, man, don’t joke like that, I didn’t do anything…” Zhou Quan stammered.
Zhou Hui also chimed in hastily:
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll leave right now, okay?”
“Leave?”
Gu Fan’s smile gradually faded, and everyone instantly felt the temperature in the conference room plummet.
“What do you think this place is? You think you can come and go as you please?”
“I said, pick a game… or die!”
The Zhou siblings' expressions turned grim.
What a joke!
How could they possibly choose?
With a glance at each other, they erupted into motion.
Their figures shot toward the window.
With their bodies having evolved twice, falling from the fifth floor would, at most, result in minor injuries!
It all happened in an instant.
So fast that the others didn’t even have time to react.
Gu Fan made no move, but the Soul Puppet behind him had already vanished.
The next moment, everyone saw the two figures get blasted back like cannonballs!
Gu Fan stepped forward and stomped on Zhou Quan’s arm.
Crack!
A crisp snap.
The room filled with wails.
“Bro! Big bro! I was wrong, I won’t ever do it again! I shouldn’t have entered your territory! Just treat me like a fart and let me go!”
As if he hadn’t heard, Gu Fan lifted his foot and stomped on the other hand.
The screams numbed everyone’s senses.
Everyone stood frozen.
Watching as Gu Fan crushed three limbs of the siblings — arms and legs.
Broken beyond repair.
The bones were turned to powder.
Only a thin layer of skin kept them attached.
At first, the two still begged for mercy.
Then, realizing it was useless, they began cursing Gu Fan furiously.
But Gu Fan didn’t care.
Let them curse.
It wouldn’t cost him any flesh.
In the end, the overwhelming pain shattered their minds.
They could only moan in despair.
Gu Fan then looked at the subordinates the Zhou siblings had brought.
“Xia Yan, take care of the rest. Drag these two up to the rooftop. Later, bring everyone in the shelter to watch the show!”
“The apocalypse is too boring — I need to find some fun for everyone.”
Seeing the smile on Gu Fan’s face, Xia Yan trembled slightly.
“Yes, Master!”
...
Hospital Rooftop.
Gu Fan brought a chair and sat grandly in the center.
Not far off, Xia Yan had placed electronic scales she found in the traditional medicine pharmacy.
People arrived on the rooftop one after another.
Only a few of Zhou Quan and Zhou Hui’s men were present in the crowd.
The ones who weren’t there likely wouldn’t be showing up again.
Xia Yan quickly approached Gu Fan and whispered:
“I kept a few decent ones from the Zhou siblings’ subordinates. The rest… I took care of them.”
Gu Fan gave no comment.
He had entrusted it to Xia Yan, so he wouldn’t interfere.
If something went wrong, she’d bear the consequences.
If she couldn’t handle it, Gu Fan would take care of her too.
Including Xia Yan herself.
“Is everyone here?”
“Everyone’s here.”
Gu Fan stood up and clapped his hands, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Everyone, isn’t the apocalypse so boring without entertainment?”
“Today I’ve specially prepared a fun show for you all. Be sure to watch closely — don’t miss a thing!”
As he spoke, Xia Yan tossed the Zhou siblings onto the ground.
Both were Evolvers, with excellent physical endurance. Even with two legs and one arm broken, they hadn’t passed out.
Gu Fan crouched in front of them.
“I keep my word. I’m giving you two a chance to live.”
A flicker of hope lit up their dull eyes.
Facing this demon of a man, they no longer had the courage to resist.
“Now, let’s play a little game.”
Gu Fan pointed at the two electronic scales not far away and said:
“See the scales? You two will sit back-to-back and each cut a piece of flesh from yourselves to place on the scale.”
“Whoever’s meat is lighter loses a point. These are your point cards — each of you starts with five points! Five rounds in total.”
“Whoever has more points at the end lives! Of course, if the weight is exactly the same in all five rounds, you both live!”
He opened his arms excitedly and continued:
“Well? Isn’t it a simple game? Just cut a small bit of meat each time, make sure the weight matches, and you both survive!”
The Zhou siblings’ eyes lit up — they felt a glimmer of hope.
“You’re serious?”
“So many people are watching — would I lie?”
“Alright! We’ll play!”
They agreed without hesitation.
To them, this was an easy game.
As long as they coordinated the weight each round, they could survive all five rounds.
Meanwhile, Xia Yan looked at Gu Fan’s back and felt a chill of deep fear.
This man was the devil — he was toying with human nature!
Would things really go as simply as the Zhou siblings imagined?
Xia Yan was sure — absolutely not!
Gu Fan waved his hand, signaling the start of the game.
Zhou Quan and Zhou Hui sat back-to-back.
“Little sis, let’s cut a small amount — 1 gram!”
Zhou Hui nodded immediately.
“Okay, big bro! Be careful to avoid the meridians!”
“Got it!”
They picked up the small knives on the ground and each made a slice on their thighs.
Both were Evolvers — this level of pain was tolerable.
Then Gu Fan suddenly spoke:
“Really, Zhou Quan? Are you sure that’s just 1 gram?”
Zhou Hui’s face changed.
“Big bro! What’s going on!”
Zhou Quan’s expression turned ugly and he quickly explained.
“Don’t believe him, Huihui! He’s trying to drive a wedge between us! I only cut 1 gram!”
Zhou Hui hesitated.
Would her brother really cut only 1 gram?
She knew Zhou Quan well — in the apocalypse, he would do anything to survive.
And he was naturally suspicious!
Would he really trust her… and cut only 1 gram?
“Hurry up, you only have one minute for the first round,” Gu Fan’s voice rang out.
A strange glint flashed in Zhou Hui’s eyes.
She gritted her teeth and made another cut, placing the flesh on the scale.
“Alright! Time’s up — let’s see the weights!” Gu Fan announced.
As his words ended, the two looked toward each other’s scales.
In an instant!!
“Zhou Hui!! You bitch! What are you doing!”
Zhou Hui also stared at Zhou Quan in disbelief, panic all over her face.
Everyone looked — Zhou Quan’s scale read 1 gram, while Zhou Hui’s read 1.6 grams!
“No! I’m sorry, big bro! I didn’t mean it — he misled me!”
Zhou Quan’s gaze turned icy as he stared at Zhou Hui, but he didn’t continue to rage.
Instead, he quickly calmed down.
“It’s fine. From now on, we must trust each other. Next round, I’ll cut 2 grams, you cut 1 gram. Our points will balance out, and we just need to match going forward.”
Zhou Hui nodded immediately, eyes brimming with tears.
“Okay, big bro! I’ll listen to you!”
Gu Fan smiled at them and said:
“Alright then, round two begins!”
This time, Zhou Hui quickly cut 1 gram of her own flesh.
Suddenly, her mind replayed Zhou Quan’s icy stare and Gu Fan’s words.
‘After five rounds, the one with more points will live!’
She was already ahead by one point — if she remained ruthless, she would be undefeatable!
Otherwise, knowing Zhou Quan’s personality, would he really spare her?
No! He could even kill their parents — how could he possibly let her live?
Thinking this, Zhou Hui hardened her heart and cut off another piece of flesh.
Big bro…
If you must blame someone, blame your own cruelty — your little sister doesn’t dare to trust you!
