Ch. 125
Chapter 125: Screening Disciples
Once the map was fully revealed, the Master of Sumeru Peak pointed to four locations and said:
"These four places represent the positions of our Brahma God Sect, Pure Radiance God Sect, Sacred Land Yaochi, and the Ancient Gu Clan—four major forces."
As he spoke, he pointed to another location and continued:
"And at the center of our four forces lies the Rift Battlefield that Senior Brother Holy Son just mentioned."
At this moment, Jiang Tianxin, who had mostly recovered, suddenly asked:
"What is the Rift Battlefield?"
The Master of Sumeru Peak slightly furrowed his brows, but considering her status on Holy Son Peak, he refrained from rebuking her.
Instead, he proceeded to explain:
"The formation of the rift remains a mystery, but according to some ancient records preserved by the sects, the rift was initially caused by a collapse at a time-space node, artificially created."
"Through later generations’ exploration, it is speculated that it was caused by an extremely powerful being. Even after leaving this place, the trace remnants of his strength have prevented this space-time rift from healing for ages."
"Over time, this place gradually turned into a special battlefield."
After the Master of Sumeru Peak finished speaking, he looked at everyone below.
At that moment, another disciple from Holy Son Peak asked:
"Since it is a battlefield, who are our enemies?"
"Hehe, a good question."
The Master of Sumeru Peak chuckled and said:
"There’s one thing I haven’t yet mentioned. This being that tore open the time-space node is not from our world. The rift he opened has intervals during which it becomes unstable, allowing creatures from another world to enter. They call themselves the Void Sacred Realm and view us as prey."
"These are our enemies, and it is because of them that our four sects collaborate periodically to carry out large-scale missions—encirclements to exterminate those from the Void Sacred Realm!"
Although the Master of Sumeru Peak spoke simply, the information he revealed was explosive!
For a moment, everyone began discussing excitedly.
Yet in one unnoticed corner, Gu Fan’s heart was already surging like a tidal wave!
A mighty being from another world, with terrifying strength, and foreign creatures calling themselves Void Sacred Realm!
All of this aligned astonishingly with what he had heard from the Dao Bell and the tales of its master. This realization made his hair stand on end.
"Could it be... this rift is actually the node that was shattered in the Ancient Domain back then? Though he fled under siege, the lingering energy he left behind kept the rift sustained…"
"Then these people now emerging from the so-called Void Sacred Realm—are they the same ones who once came from the Ancient Domain?"
Gu Fan murmured to himself, speculating endlessly in his heart.
At that moment, the Master of Sumeru Peak continued:
"The general situation is like this. Because the rift is extremely unstable, those who enter must have cultivation below the Yang Spirit Realm."
"Also, the number of entrants is limited. Our Brahma God Sect has thirty slots. Now, we will begin the selection process."
At this point, Jiang Tianxin once again asked in confusion:
"Is there any benefit to entering?"
"Of course!"
"Back when the rift was first formed, supreme experts fought within it. Blood was spilled, treasures scattered. Any item from such beings is a priceless treasure to us!"
"Naturally, opportunities come with danger. If trapped within the many perilous zones, one’s body may perish, and soul be destroyed!"
"So be prepared. Once selected, no refusals or escape will be tolerated—otherwise, the sect will severely punish you!"
As the Master of Sumeru Peak spoke, his gaze unintentionally swept toward Gu Fan’s direction.
It immediately put Gu Fan on alert.
However, this rift indeed intrigued him.
As for danger, he could always retreat to the Apocalypse World to avoid it. All things considered, it was worth the risk!
He might even uncover the connection between the Dao Bell and the Bronze Gate.
Was he truly a contingency plan left behind by that unknown mighty figure, a method for resurrection?
Gu Fan had every reason to uncover the truth behind these questions.
High in the air, seeing the Holy Son nod, the Master of Sumeru Peak began the selection.
"Sumeru Peak, Huang Lin!"
"Disciple present!"
"Holy Son Peak, Jiang Tianxin!"
"Disciple present!"
"Tiancai Peak, Zhao Xinzhe!"
"Disciple present!"
"Dark God Peak, Xing Zirong!"
"Disciple present..."
A string of names rang out, and in the blink of an eye, fifteen slots were filled.
At this moment, Gu Fan couldn’t help but feel nervous. Were they going to withhold his chance to enter the rift just because they were afraid he might obtain something good?
He was a little anxious. According to what the Holy Son had said earlier, this rift likely only opened once every many years.
If he missed this chance, he might have to wait many years before the next opportunity!
However, Gu Fan was overthinking.
Just as he was pondering his options, the Master of Sumeru Peak changed his tone, the corner of his mouth lifting into a smile as he said:
"Overlord Peak, Nanyun!"
"Here!"
Hearing that Nanyun had been selected, Gu Fan’s heart tensed.
"Overlord Peak disciple, Gu Fan!"
"Present!"
Whew! Gu Fan let out a relieved breath and answered with a smile. Then he looked up toward the Master of Sumeru Peak floating in the air. The latter wore a casual smile, but deep in his eyes was a chilling coldness.
Still, this didn’t concern Gu Fan at all—unless some senior disciple in the Yang Spirit Realm decided to abandon honor and play dirty.
Moments later, the Master of Sumeru Peak finished selecting all the participants.
"Everyone, proceed immediately to the sect’s teleportation point. Assemble at the rift!"
"Yes!!"
Immediately, the unchosen disciples scattered and returned to their respective cave residences.
Meanwhile, the thirty selected disciples—including Gu Fan and Nanyun—rushed to the sect’s teleportation formation.
This region was vast, and even for cultivators, it would take decades or centuries to traverse it on foot.
Thus, teleportation arrays were commonly used in the Upper Realm for efficient travel.
Soon after, everyone arrived at the teleportation array. Then, with a wave of the Holy Son’s hand—
A command token appeared in the air and released a beam of light.
"Everyone, step into the teleportation array now."
Hearing this, everyone swiftly entered the formation.
Gu Fan followed behind Nanyun, curiously observing the surrounding array.
"Senior Brother Nanyun, how far can this teleportation array reach?"
It was his first time using such a teleportation array, and he was evidently intrigued.
Nanyun, clearly no stranger to this, smiled and explained:
"This teleportation array was constructed at great cost by the sect. Just a single use consumes resources enough to raise a disciple all the way to the Yang Spirit Realm."
"As for the distance—well, it depends on the energy provided. The more energy, the farther the range."
"But this thing isn’t entirely safe."
Gu Fan was intrigued by this.
"Is it easy to teleport to the wrong place?"
"Hehe, teleporting to the wrong place would actually be considered fortunate."
Nanyun chuckled, but a hint of fear appeared on his face.
"The real danger is encountering an unknown spatial node during transmission."
"Once that happens, there’s no guarantee a cultivator who falls in can ever get out. Even if they’re lucky enough to escape, who knows where they’ll end up."
"If it's in some deadly land, then screaming to the heavens won’t help, and the earth won’t respond either."
After finishing, Nanyun looked toward Gu Fan and added:
"So be careful during teleportation."
