Chapter 82: The Flügel with "Invincible" Written All Over Her Face
Beyond the horizon, on the other side of the night-shrouded Earth, hung a bright moon in the vast expanse of space.
The battlefield Su Mo spoke of was upon that moon.
He had no choice. A battle of this magnitude, if truly fought on Earth, would be a civilization-ending catastrophe.
Su Mo: Jibril, you can come over now.
Jibril: In a minute. I need to get rid of a pest first.
Rin Tohsaka: ?
Rin Tohsaka: Don't tell me you're scared?
Though she knew it was unlikely, she couldn't resist taking a jab at the arrogant newcomer.
Seeing her message, Jibril's lip twitched. She shot an annoyed glance at the Flügel standing not far behind her.
"Azriel, because of you, I've just been mocked by a weakling who isn't even as good as a weed. If you don't have a good reason, you'd better find yourself a recovery room in advance!"
A murderous intent, so palpable it felt as if it had mass, glinted in her eyes.
"Eek! That look is terrifying, Jii-chan! You're not actually going to do it, are you?" Azriel flinched, feigning fear.
"I don't have time for your games!" Jibril's tone grew even more annoyed at her feigned foolishness.
"…Alright, I'll be direct then." Seeing her serious expression, Azriel finally straightened up.
"Earlier, in front of Lord Artosh, you said you would defeat him. What did you mean by that?"
"Although Lord Artosh didn't pursue your crime of lese-majesty, as the leader, I cannot pretend I didn't see it."
The usually undignified Azriel suddenly grew serious, an invisible aura surging from her, testament to her power as the strongest Flügel. To her, Jibril's words were practically treason.
Faced with such a sharp question, Jibril just smiled, showing no signs of remorse.
"What did I mean? Exactly what I said!"
"Are you saying you intend to usurp our Master?"
Azriel's gaze finally turned icy, her entire being exuding an overwhelming pressure, a complete transformation from her earlier self. This was the true nature of a Flügel, the true form of a race said to be the only one capable of slaying gods.
If Jibril admitted to it, no matter how much she usually doted on her younger sister, Azriel would likely strike her down without mercy. Betraying their Master God was an unforgivable sin!
Jibril naturally understood this, but she wasn't the least bit intimidated.
"I do intend to defeat Lord Artosh, but whether that's usurpation or not, I can't say!"
"What do you mean?" Azriel frowned deeply.
"Still playing dumb?" Jibril retorted sarcastically. "Or have you truly not realized Lord Artosh's true wish, and the real reason he created us Flügel?"
"…"
Azriel fell silent, the oppressive aura she had gathered completely dissipating. Clearly, she wasn't completely oblivious; she just didn't dare to believe it.
Seeing her expression, Jibril pouted with a hint of boredom.
"Play dumb if you want, just don't get in my way. I've just found a way to get stronger. While it's probably nothing compared to Lord Artosh, it's still a nice find. Don't block my path!"
"A way to get stronger?"
Hearing this, Azriel paused for a moment, then said with concern, "Since Lord Artosh has approved your actions, I won't stand in your way. But you're not going to do something dangerous again, are you? Like challenging the Dragonia those last few times."
She remembered that in every one of those challenges, Jibril had been in extreme danger and had never once succeeded.
"It's none of your business!" Jibril's eyes flashed with displeasure at the mention of her failures. "Besides, this time my opponent is just some lower race, not even on the level of a single Ex-machina. How could anything happen to me?"
"Is that so… then I'm relieved."
Azriel was instantly reassured. Tangling with the Ex-machina would be troublesome, but if the opponent was only on the level of a single unit, they posed no threat to any Flügel, let alone Jibril.
"Then go and come back quickly. When you win, I'll reward my dear Jii-chan with a loving hug—"
Before she could finish her harassing remark, her little sister vanished completely.
"Such an impatient sister," Azriel sighed regretfully, then felt the spatial fluctuations with a puzzled expression. "Strange, I can't detect any spatial fluctuations. Did Jii-chan not use Heaven's Shift?"
Flügel were born with the ability to perform spatial leaps, but it seemed Jibril hadn't used this innate talent. What was going on?
Recalling what Jibril had said earlier and faced with this unprecedented phenomenon, Azriel suddenly felt a flicker of unease.
"Jii-chan… she'll be okay, right?"
---||---
In the Godslayer world, on the Moon.
Rin Tohsaka: They actually moved the battlefield here… I can accept it rationally, but emotionally it still feels too over-the-top.
Kanae Kocho: This is my first time seeing the real moon. It's just as desolate as Rin said. I guess all those legends about a moon palace and Princess Kaguya are false.
Madoka Kaname: Seeing the Earth from the Moon is such a novel experience!
Madoka Kaname: I'm so jealous of you, Erica!
Erica Blandelli: This is my first time on the Moon too. I never expected it would be like this.
Erica Blandelli: It's all thanks to Lord Su Mo's protection. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to survive in such an extreme environment.
Before Jibril arrived, the group members were captivated by the scenery. Without the protection of an atmosphere, all they could see was the deep cosmos and a smattering of starlight.
Before, their imagination of a powerhouse's strength was limited to a massive destructive range. Only now did they realize that for beings on Su Mo's level, their theater of operations was no longer confined to their home planet.
Powerhouses of this level could travel into space, to other planets.
Rin Tohsaka: So jealous. I want to go too. Too bad NASA doesn't have a program for that.
Madoka Kaname: They don't in your world, Rin? We have one here, it's just a bit expensive.
The technological development in Madoka's world was clearly more advanced than in the others, to the point where moon landings were available as civilian expeditions. However, they still hadn't reached the point of leaving their home planet.
Rin Tohsaka: If it's not too expensive, I might give it a try.
Rin Tohsaka: Anyway, why isn't that Jibril here yet? Don't tell me she actually ran away? There's no shame in admitting defeat early, you know!
Rin Tohsaka: @Jibril
Jibril: Very good! I admire your courage. After the battle is over, I will personally pay you a visit.
Rin Tohsaka: …
The twin-tailed loli gulped, feeling a little flustered. Although she knew she was safe as long as she didn't grant access, being targeted by such a ruthless person was still too dangerous.
Lord Su Mo, it's all up to you! You can't lose! she immediately prayed in her heart.
Just then, in the live stream, a girl with rainbow-colored hair, a geometric halo shimmering above her head, and two white wings extending from her lower back, abruptly appeared on the lunar rock.
Her angelic biological structure immediately corresponded with her self-proclaimed identity as a "Flügel."
"Hmm… so this is another world?"
Having just arrived in the Godslayer world, Jibril looked up at the Earth with great interest.
"As I thought, the planet's structure is quite different from our world's."
After casually scanning her surroundings, she set her sights on Su Mo.
"You are my opponent this time?"
"Yes." Su Mo nodded.
"Hmm… to think I can actually sense an aura similar to a god's, like Lord Artosh's. So, you people are considered true gods as well?"
Jibril looked at Su Mo, then at Artoria and Lancelot beside him, with a hint of confusion. She had thought the gods of another world would be completely different from her own, but observing them in person, she realized she might have been wrong.
However…
"If you are gods, why is your energy signature so weak?" she asked, slightly bewildered.
According to her senses, aside from Su Mo, whom she couldn't read, the energy within Lancelot and Artoria was even smaller in scale than she had previously estimated. How could an energy level of that scale produce the effects she had witnessed before? She found it incredible.
"It's likely because your planet's Great Source is much more abundant, so you've never had to worry about a lack of energy," Su Mo answered quickly.
"Lack of energy?" Jibril froze. "Is there such a thing?"
Rin Tohsaka: …
Erica Blandelli: …
The two were speechless. Jibril's surprise was an answer in itself.
The Age of Gods in the Godslayer world had long since faded. While its Great Source of magic was still stronger than the Nasuverse's, it was a far cry from the world of No Game No Life.
If the Nasuverse's Great Source was like a desert oasis, where you had to struggle to draw even a little—better to just refine your own life force—then the Godslayer world's was like being near a stream, where effort would yield results.
As for the world of No Game No Life? That place was practically an ocean of magic. For Jibril, the rate at which her internal energy replenished depended entirely on her own absorption speed; the Great Source was practically assumed to be infinite.
The well-fed cannot know the plight of the hungry. Jibril had never imagined that strength could be constrained by energy.
"Then you still dare to accept my wager?" Jibril asked strangely. "To face a powerhouse whose strength surpasses your own… isn't that a guaranteed loss?"
After confirming her advantage once more, her attitude became noticeably more relaxed.
A whole group of them together didn't have half her power. With a dragon breathing down your neck, how can you lose?
Hearing her confident declaration, Su Mo calmly shook his head.
"Let me correct three fundamental errors you've made."
"First, you don't understand power."
"Second, you don't understand what it means to be strong."
"And third, I will not lose."
To him, this was a perfectly reasonable assessment. But hearing it, Jibril almost laughed out of sheer anger.
"I don't understand power? I don't understand what it means to be strong? You really have some nerve…"
As a retainer of the strongest God of War, as a Flügel who stood above all other races, that assessment was tantamount to an insult.
"Then let me see it! Your so-called power, your so-called strength, your so-called victory!"
With those words, the wings on her back spread to their fullest extent, and the geometric halo above her head spun at full power.
An absolutely terrifying aura and a torrential wave of energy emanated from her, making even Lancelot and Artoria's faces change. They didn't know where this angel had come from, but this scale of energy was off the charts.
Even the Arcane Holy Grail didn't contain such a vast amount of magical energy. If they had that kind of power, they could probably destroy the world.
What kind of monster had their Master provoked this time?
