Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Pleased White Dragon
Anger, curses, despair, hatred.
The former clansmen cast the most vicious words in the world upon this girl named Vena, praying for the just gods to give her a heavenly punishment.
But, there was none.
There were no more gods in this world—and of course, there was no "justice" to speak of.
The unwilling, but ultimately helpless people supported each other. While cursing the girl whose mind had been bewitched by a demon, they moved with difficulty along the path they had come from.
The girl stood quietly on the spot, watching the backs of her clansmen gradually move away, and even disappear.
"I'm back."
A few minutes later, she once again passed through the narrow rock crevice and returned to the front of that white shrine. Her temperament was completely new.
"It's like she's a completely different person!" Artoria looked at the expressionless girl before her in disbelief—she found it hard to understand why in just a few short minutes, a harmless little white rabbit could turn into a mother lion exuding a deadly aura.
Shiroryu, on the other hand, was somewhat dissatisfied.
"You seem to have let them go?" The young dragon flew down from above the shrine and flew in front of the girl. At a level slightly higher than her, it questioned her from above. "Was what I said not clear enough? I said kill them, or kill me."
The cold question was filled with endless meaning. Artoria, listening from the side, had no doubt that perhaps in the next moment, this young dragon would extend its claws and execute this "rebellious vassal" who dared to defy its command.
But Vena was fearless. She had nothing left to be afraid of... her sword was already stained with the blood of her clansmen, a sin she could never wash away. And besides that, an even more important point was that through what had just happened, she had thoroughly understood one thing:
[I can make mistakes.]
[But I cannot do nothing.]
The young dragon's teaching had already been transmitted to her heart through that sharp longsword and had resonated with the meager white dragon bloodline in her body.
"I am unwilling to kill my clansmen, and even more so, I cannot raise the blade of rebellion against you. Therefore, this is the answer I have given."
The girl raised her head, looking up at the "dragon god" before her that should have made her feel fear, her eyes no longer holding any hesitation.
"Shua—"
She raised the longsword in her hand. But the direction the sword tip pointed was not the young dragon—but her own left shoulder. She showed no hesitation, directly piercing her own left shoulder with the blade. A sharp pain was instantly transmitted to her brain, making her instantly kneel on the ground, almost losing control of her body. She had to use her right hand to hold the hilt, using the blood-soaked sword as a support to ensure she would not fall to the ground.
To be honest, her appearance now was extremely tragic. Dark red blood gushed from her shoulder, in just a moment's time, it had dyed her upper body red, looking quite shocking.
But she was smiling. Very狰狞, very forced. But she was indeed smiling, and it was a smile from the bottom of her heart. Because in this moment, she finally understood the "dragon's" way of life.
She lowered her head, looking at the blood dripping from the blade—there was hers, and also her clansmen's.
"I offer this blood as a sacrifice. O, god of the white dragon, I hope this will satisfy you."
...
This was an incredible, and even somewhat "heretical" scene.
Artoria looked at the girl whose body was still bleeding, but whose smile was becoming more and more brilliant—if she hadn't witnessed the growth of the young dragon with her own eyes, she would probably have subconsciously thought that this girl was worshiping some "evil god."
And the young dragon? Would he be satisfied with these sacrifices called "blood"?
Artoria secretly glanced at the young dragon—and found that this little guy had already started to fly up and down in mid-air.
"Not bad, not bad. Very good."
The young dragon nodded repeatedly, showing a look of approval.
The life form known as a dragon, after all, was not like humans who liked to hide things—dislike was dislike, like was like. They would very directly output their emotions, not caring at all about the opinions of others.
"You did very well, better than I imagined. You have pleased me."
Shiroryu was very excited, but the reason for his excitement was definitely not the so-called "blood sacrifice." He was not a vampire, let alone some evil god. He didn't need such strange things as sacrifices.
What truly pleased him was actually the girl's "struggling" attitude—faced with the two choices he had given, this unwilling girl had struggled to find a third path. This was correct. For a dragon, there was no right or wrong in the world, let alone being bound by those rules and regulations.
Just do what you really want to do, and become the person you really want to be.
"I recognize you! From now on, my will will be with you."
...
The young dragon landed on the girl's shoulder. This was not the first time he had touched this girl. Last time, he had used his claws to throw this girl into the pool, saving her from a near-death state. And this time, he was beginning to contact the girl's soul.
A white light bloomed from his body—it was a rather dazzling light, but it was by no means blinding, and had no harm at all. Artoria, feeling this light, found that there seemed to be a sacred power flowing in this light, and she could faintly hear a dragon's cry.
"Wow, what a stroke of luck, to be able to see such a rare scene." The Flower Magus's voice sounded by Artoria's ear—his control of the volume and timing was just right. It would neither affect the dragon and the girl in front, nor would it fail to explain to Artoria exactly what was happening here.
"He is stimulating that girl's bloodline, making her awaken the true [Dragon] attribute."
"What? You're asking if this girl will turn into a dragon? No, no, no, Ria, you seem to have some misunderstanding of the word [Dragon]."
"Mmm... you might as well try replacing the [Dragon] in your cognition with [God]."
