Chapter 35 - Walk gone wrong
"My grandmother might know someone who collects books. Yes, yes, we can find out about this mysterious thing." Chen handed the book back to him.
Skyy grimaced at this. This diary was found in the library of the lunar base. It was not even part of this strange world. 'How can he find anything about it... it's just a mystery on its own…'
He took the diary and had a good look at it. The words and the tone made it seem like he had written it. Plus, it also mentioned his classes. He had only attended the first day's class. He had gone into hiding after that.
The note mentioned that it was his third day of class when Chen came to pick him up, saddened.
"So if I don't go to school it won't happen, yes…" He looked up at him with a grin.
Chen sighed. "We can't go about ignoring the problem. The issue is not you going to school but something happening to my uncle. We have to deal with the threat so that he has a safe and sound recovery."
"Hmm…" Skyy put down his brilliant plan to skip school.
"I have something to do. Don't go out. Stay in." Saying so, Chen left the house.
Pouting, Skyy rolled around in the office chair. He had been used to staying alone in his base. But now that he was used to company, it was hard to stay alone. "It's sooo boring…" he gazed out the window.
"I'll just take a short walk… what's going to go wrong?"
In just a few minutes, he was proven that was the worst idea he had ever had.
Skyy hid in an alley, panting softly.
"Did he go that way?!"
"No, split up. We have a good bounty with that one."
Strange men dressed in raggedy black clothes muttered amongst themselves.
Skyy bit his trembling lips. He had just gone out for a walk when he spotted a few people climbing over the base walls. As soon as they saw him, their eyes shone bright, and they dashed over to him.
He knew danger when it was looking him in the eye.
Skyy instantly took off running and hiding.
If not for his instincts, he would have been captured and taken away.
'Who are these people? They do not look like people from around here.' The people from the base all wore clean clothes and were all very kind. But this new group looked like hooligans his friend always warned him about.
'Oh God, what am I going to do…' He was currently hiding behind a trash bin in a small alley. The men had surrounded both sides of the path.
As the two men frantically searched for him, another man climbed down from the wall and hit them both. "Remember why we are here! We are here for the damn serum! Not to kidnap a kid!"
"But that boy's too pretty. He'll sell for a lot of food in the market."
"Not now. After we have taken the serum, we will go after the pretty ones in here and take them with us." The man, who was the leader of the group, said with a devious grin.
Skyy held his breath until the men passed by the alley. "They… they seem to be after Chen's uncle's research! I need to warn him!"
But there was only one small issue. He had no clue where Chen was. He had been to Chen's house only once and could barely remember the route.
'I'll… I'll just follow them. If I can warn any of the guards in the research center, maybe I can save this situation.'
With that plan in mind, Skyy silently followed behind the sneaky three men.
The guards instantly noticed the men approaching the research center. As soon as one of them opened his mouth to warn another, one of the assailants quickly disappeared and appeared behind him, slitting his throat.
Skyy cupped his mouth, holding back his gasp.
He had seen Chen killing zombies. But this was the first time he had ever seen someone kill a human. It was… bone-chilling.
A chill went down his spine as he gazed at the man mercilessly killing the guards.
'W-what can I do… what can I do to stop them?'
Telling the guards seemed like a useless idea. Even so, Skyy silently followed them, hoping that someone could stop them from their rampage.
"Wait…" The leader stopped the other two. "Check behind us."
Skyy panicked. He quickly took off hiding in one of the rooms in the corridor. 'What do I do now… I can't even fight. What if those men kill me…' He pranced around the room. Strangely, the room had nothing but a huge glass casing in the middle with a piece of wood inside it.
"I think I can use it as a weapon…" He punched the glass, but strangely, it wasn't breaking.
"Oh no…"
The man with spatial powers appeared inside the room with a grin. "There you are, pretty one. Hey, I found the kid. He seems to have followed us."
"Take him out before he warns the others."
"Tsk, it's a pity to kill this one," the man said with a strange grin on his face.
"Please… I… I don't know anything." Trembling, Skyy leaned against the glass casing. His legs gave out from fear.
The man stood before him with a bloody dagger. "Such a waste..." The man raised the dagger and stabbed it at him.
Skyy hurriedly dodged it.
To his surprise, he watched the unbreakable glass shatter behind him. The next second, the man's dagger pierced into the piece of wood.
"Shit... it's stuck..." The dagger seemed to be lodged into the wood.
Skyy took this chance to crawl away to the door.
"Wait right there." The man let go of his dagger, but weirdly, he was not able to take his hand off. It was attached to the wood with a tentacle of some sort. "What the hell…" The tentacle swiftly bore into his hand.
"Ahhhh!!!! My hand…!!!!! Ahhhh!!!"
The man's wails made Skyy tremble.
