Criminal X : Epitome Of Evil

Chapter 416: When Eyes Beg, the Devil Looks Away

The cold wind blew around the ground as the soldiers finally had a face that wasn't on the verge of tears.

Draxus had made a fair point after all.

Pablo won't sit idly and watch them die by the hands of the criminals, when things would go out of hand, the Marshal would surely jump in and help them.

But Draxus knew something that others didn't. Heck, even Flashy knew what the other soldiers didn't.

The amount of time they had spent with Pablo, they could tell one thing from all their being.

Pablo could certainly watch all of them die and do nothing about it.

So when Draxus and Flashy saw the relaxed faces of the soldiers, they couldn't help but sigh while looking at each other.

They couldn't tell the soldiers that Pablo could let them all die as it might make the soldiers less loyal to Pablo but they still had to make the soldiers aware that they couldn't take the training lightly just because they are under the assumption that Pablo would save them if things go south.

Draxus gestured with his eyes for Flashy to say something to the soldiers.

Flashy refused right away and gestured his eyes at Draxus to do the same thing.

Draxus would have refused as well if not for realising the absurdity of what he was asking.

I really asked Flashy of all people to say some words to the soldiers. I must still be sleepy. He shook his head and cleared his throat.

"Everyone, don't be so sure of your safety yet. You all still have to fight a criminal with seriousness. Czar might not let you all die but he can certainly watch you getting hurt to the extreme. He can watch you losing a limb, he can watch you losing an eye, he can watch anything as long as it doesn't involve instant death. So make sure to fight like your life depends on it, because no matter how you see it, it really is."

Draxus explained to the best of his abilities without outright saying Pablo doesn't give a fcuk about lives.

Nevertheless, it appeared that the soldiers understood as they all nodded with determination.

Pablo, on the stage, heard everything that went on the ground and he was satisfied with Draxus. The man handled it well making it pretty easy for Pablo to move forward.

"Everyone, the criminals are waiting. Go choose one of them and stand beside them. Then create spaces between other groups and wait for my order."

The soldiers obliged instantly and looked at the one hundred and ten criminals.

One by one, the soldiers chose their rivals.

Flashy searched for a female criminal but there were none. So in the end, he settled with a man with long black hair.

Pablo had no comments for that as his eyes went at the eight slaves.

They were the weakest of the group.

They had weapons in their hands just like the other soldiers but those were their only weapons. They had no Egoes. They were the most pitiful of the lot.

And when it came to pity, there was one person who did that best.

"Why did you include those poor children into this training? All the criminals have Egoes. The children will die if they fight them." Cupid raised her concern.

Pablo sighed. 'If the training from yesterday worked, they will be fine.'

"What?" Cupid exclaimed. "They only fought each other yesterday. They possibly couldn't have learned combat in just one day to fight criminals."

Pablo shook his head. 'I expected this from you. I don't want to explain anything. Just watch how things will play out.'

Cupid wanted to say some more things but she figured Pablo would just ignore her. So she kept quiet.

The eight slaves looked around and as they watched everyone else choosing the criminals, they became more and more nervous.

They weren't even able to gather the courage to look at the criminals and Pablo ordered them to fight? They had no idea what to do.

Nevertheless, they still turned their heads to take a look at their opponents and they flinched when the criminals looked back.

They have seen those eyes. They were the same as those eyes they saw in the buyers of slaves. Especially the girls. They hid behind the boys with their heads hung low.

The criminals watched the girls as well and licked their lips.

The criminals would have run themselves and chosen the girls as their partners if not for Pablo's clear order that only the soldiers shall move and choose the criminals.

The criminals were bad but they were smart enough to know not to go against Pablo's order.

Therefore, they waited.

As time went on, more and more soldiers selected their respective partners. Sera also chose someone but she was the most carefree. She already told Andrezj that she doesn't want to be touched by her opponent. The rest would be taken care of by the male angel.

Now only the eight slaves were left and eight criminals.

The slaves still couldn't find the courage to go to a criminal.

The boys were afraid that the criminals would kill them and the girls were afraid that they would be raped and then be killed. Thinking all this, they just couldn't move their legs.

In the end, they only saw one thing to do and they did it.

All eight of them looked at Pablo.

Their eyes overflowed with hope and they were on the verge of crying.

Seeing that, Pablo sighed.

The slaves' eyes found more hope as they believed Pablo would let them go. After all, why would he let out a sigh?

The slaves waited for the sweet words from Pablo. They waited for Pablo to say, 'it's alright. You all can go.'

They stared at Pablo and Pablo stared back but the next second, he averted his eyes.

The slaves followed his gaze and saw that Pablo was looking at the remaining eight criminals with no partners.

All of them were taller than the rest of the criminals, they had beards, rough skin, scars and they were only wearing pants. They were barechested.

The slaves definitely didn't want to fight them.

Pablo stared at the criminals and the slaves believed that their master would tell the criminals to get out.

And their master did tell the criminals something…

"Go and choose whoever you like as your partner among these eight wimps."
