Chapter 18: Chapter 18
Detroit Become Human is the perfect game for this competition, obviously there are others that would also be great such as Heavy Rain, Life is Strange, The Walking Dead, all of them are incredible.
(The Walking Dead by Telltale, not the 2024 one)
But Detroit Become Human will be much more acceptable in this universe, also I'm only five years old, with Detroit I won't need to make many changes to the world.
Since the game already takes place in the future, all I need to do is research how technology was at the time when machines gained rights, then make some changes to the environment.
"Hmm, Detroit is an easy game to make gameplay for, but difficult to make all the connections with player choices, besides that I need to speed up God of War.
Complicated, I don't know if there will be enough time, I'll also need a game focused on gameplay."
Several games pass through my mind, but I discard them quickly, I need a short game that won't require much work to complete, while I'm lost in thought, Luna called me.
"Alex, are we going to work on the Temple today?"
"Ah?!... Yes, let's go, if I work a bit maybe a good idea might come."
Disconnecting from the 'Impossible Choice', I entered the world of God of War, I go to the desert to find Cronos on his knees.
I haven't even put an AI in him yet, so at these moments he is just a gigantic mountain.
Opening the creation menu, I started giving life to the great Temple of Pandora by activating all the traps and challenges.
Entering player mode, I began testing all the traps, from the damage caused to the activation time, I spent my whole afternoon just refining the traps and even though it was tiring, just thinking about the players' expression when they get here made me smile.
After that, I activated Cronos' AI, leaving him with very basic commands, he would walk along a predetermined path, and when the player blows the trumpet, he should approach so the player can climb up to the temple.
Returning to creation mode, I can see Cronos moving slowly through the desert, raising gigantic clouds of sand, when I see the sunlight hitting the golden sand, a light bulb goes off in my head.
"How did I not think of this before?! This game is perfect."
"Game? What game?"
"Journey... yes, that's perfect, Luna let's create two new planets."
"Hmm?! Alright, but didn't you say you wanted to focus on this planet before starting to work on the next one."
"Yes, I said that, but today I found out about the Gamer designer competition, I plan to make two more games."
Soon we were in the empty space, I quickly created two new planets, this time much smaller, I won't need so much space.
Detroit received a slightly larger planet, for Journey I just created a large desert, flying around the place I started making several modifications in the lighting and physics.
If I concentrate, I should be able to finish Journey in just a few months, and Detroit should take a little over a year.
Now I'm getting more and more excited, I started designing the structures scattered throughout the desert, even though they seem simple, they have many details.
"This is going to be fun."
"Alex, come to dinner, and stop playing on the beach."
Before I could start, Mom took me out of Full Drive,
"I wasn't playing on the beach, I started a new project."
"Okay, okay, anyway let's have dinner."
.....
Time is flying by, I'm already 15 years old, and it's been two years since I've been working on the games for the competition.
Honestly, I didn't even notice the time passing, wondering if it's an effect of having a long lifespan.
Regardless, I finally finished the final settings of Detroit Become Human, right now both Detroit and Journey are almost ready, only one very small thing is missing, but extremely important, the music.
All games must have their unique soundtrack, the best games are those that make you shiver when fighting an epic Boss, or with a shocking scene.
The soundtrack is extremely important to convey the correct feeling to the player, just remembering when I was fighting against Gael, Nameless King, Sister Friede in Dark Souls 3 or Phalanx and Malos in Shadow of The Colossus, or the final scene in Life is Strange, just remembering these and several others, make my arms tingle.
Now I need to try to reproduce the right music for the games I'm making, especially Journey which relies heavily on the environment and soundtrack, but fortunately, I know the right person for that.
I send a message to Jade, whenever I go to the music store, she complains if she didn't take her along, I also asked her to bring her glasses, today I'm going to let her test a game.
In less than 15 minutes she arrives in front of the house.
"Let's go Alex, I have several things to ask Mrs. Belmont."
I can't help but be surprised, she was in an elegant black dress, with light makeup, her loose hair was really beautiful, it even seemed to be shining.
(Wait, it doesn't seem to be shining, it really is shining, how did she manage to get ready so much in 15 minutes?)
"... Jade... Is this dress new?"
"Yes, I bought it for when I need to go to the store, do I look pretty?"
"...hmm, yes but... you don't need to dress up so much, let's just ask her for a favor, then..."
"Then what!!!"
(≖、≖╬)
"... Nothing, you look great."
"That's what I thought, now let's go already."
.....
We quickly arrived at the store, it still looks old and worn out, as soon as we entered I could see Grandma Maria talking to an elderly man, they seem very close.
"Hmm?! Ah, Alex, Jade, I'm glad you came, I was just talking about you now, let me introduce you, this is an old friend of mine, Albert Lenkov.
Albert, this is Alexandre Lockhart, and beside him is the elegant and very well-dressed Jadelyn West."
Jade smiled with blushing cheeks and gave me a victorious smile, I just rolled my eyes.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir" x2
"The pleasure is all mine, Mari has spoken highly of you both, Miss Jadelyn seems to have a great future in music, and Mr. Alexandre seems to have a great talent for musical instruments."
"Grandma Maria was just exaggerating, Mr. Albert, you can call me Alex."
"You can also call me Jade."
While we were exchanging pleasantries, Grandma changed the subject.
"So, what happened, it's rare for you to visit me without warning."
"Hehe, sorry, I was a bit anxious. Grandma, today I came to ask a favor."
"Hmm?! Alright, if it's something I can help with."
I told her about the competition, and how the games I was working on are almost ready, but the soundtrack was missing.
"You're lucky, Albert is one of the best composers I know, maybe he can help."
"Hey, hey, calm down, Mari, you know I'm on vacation, besides I compose for singers, I don't know anything about games."
"Don't be like that, think of it as a fun experience."
"Mr. Albert, I brought one of my games with me, what do you think about trying it, and then deciding."
"Seriously?! That's great, I was really curious to see what you were doing."
I handed Grandma the glasses, I borrowed my dad's glasses, he shouldn't mind, Jade also picked hers.
"Hmm, I'm not a fan of games."
Albert complains softly.
"Eh?! Albert, you're not going to try?"
Grandma Maria looks at him a little disappointed, Albert looked at her and became a little anxious.
"I will try, I bet we can have fun together, Mari."
Seeing this, I can't help but widen my eyes, I really found a legendary "old simp".
.........
Note: I have a bit more free time than I expected, so I'll try to release more chapters, but no promises, hahaha.
