Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Episode 3 · Remaining Sense of Pain (Part 1)

The Garden of Sinners – Episode 3, Remaining Sense of Pain.

From the very beginning, this episode carried a distinctly different tone from the previous two. The overall atmosphere was overwhelmingly dark and somber.

Dim candlelight. Scattered shadows. A young girl, surrounded and overpowered by a group of men. Anyone witnessing such a scene would instinctively feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately, the film did not depict the depths of such depravity in an overly explicit manner. The horrifying scene of the girl being assaulted was instead conveyed through fleeting silhouettes and fragmented shots.

Just as the audience began to assume that the girl was doomed to suffer a tragic fate, a strange and eerie energy suddenly swept through the entire space.

When the scene brightened again, the pitch-black chamber was now left with only the girl, standing alone.

The men around her had been reduced to lifeless corpses, scattered across the room.

"One, two, three, four… four…"

"One of them got away—"

The girl murmured to herself.

After a brief moment of silence, a faint smile appeared on her lips.

The striking opening of Remaining Sense of Pain immediately shocked nearly all viewers.

It vividly conveyed a dark and disturbing theme while avoiding excessive explicitness—an approach that audiences found incredibly well-executed. Many were genuinely impressed by the masterful cinematography.

At the same time, the scene left them with countless questions.

"Who is this girl? Was she really assaulted by those men?"

"What happened at the end? Why did all those men die? And why did their bodies look so twisted?"

"There wasn't enough information. It's impossible to determine exactly what happened."

"This episode is going to be intense."

Murmuring to themselves, viewers patiently continued watching to uncover the answers.

After leaving the dark chamber, the girl stepped onto the nighttime streets.

The streets were completely deserted. Suddenly, she clutched her abdomen in pain, crouching by the roadside, her face twisted in agony.

At that moment, Kokutou Mikiya appeared at the other end of the street.

The kind-hearted young man immediately approached her, speaking softly:

"Are you okay? Do you need help?"

Hearing Kokutou Mikiya's words, the girl was momentarily stunned. A barely perceptible gasp escaped her lips.

Then, as the scene flickered several times, the girl ultimately found herself unable to resist the warmth of his kindness. She allowed him to gently carry her on his back.

"We still have a bit of a walk ahead. Let me know if you feel too uncomfortable."

"Alright. But my wound has already healed. It doesn't hurt."

Even as she said this, one of her hands remained pressed against her stomach, making it clear that she was still suffering.

Seeing this, Kokutou Mikiya couldn't help but ask, "Does your stomach hurt?"

"No…"

The girl answered, but then suddenly fell silent.

After a brief pause, she nodded and whispered:

"—Yes. It hurts… It hurts so much, I feel like crying… Can I… cry?"

"Of course."

Kokutou Mikiya nodded with a gentle smile, and the girl, reassured, slowly closed her eyes.

After bringing her to his home, Kokutou Mikiya patiently took care of her. Being the gentleman that he was, he slept in the living room, giving his room to the girl.

The next morning, when Kokutou Mikiya woke up, he found the girl already sitting at the table in the living room.

"Thank you for your hospitality last night. I may not be able to repay your kindness, but I truly appreciate it."

"It's no problem. By the way, would you like to have breakfast with me?"

Hearing Kokutou Mikiya's words, the girl froze for a moment before nodding slightly.

During breakfast, Kokutou Mikiya suddenly noticed some commotion outside. Eavesdropping on passersby, he heard them discussing a murder case.

"Did you hear? There was a homicide last night."

"I heard the crime scene was gruesome. The killer twisted off all four limbs of the victims… The place was practically drenched in blood."

"The ones who died were just local thugs. They used to loiter around here, causing all sorts of trouble. They even committed crimes, but the law let them off because they were young. From what I heard, their limbs weren't cut off—they were twisted off. Imagine how much strength that would take."

"Well, considering the kind of people they were, it's not surprising they ended up dead."

Hearing about the sudden murder case, Kokutou Mikiya couldn't help but comment, "Something like this… It's exactly the kind of case that would intrigue Miss Touko."

Upon hearing his words, the girl—who had also been listening to the passersby—lowered her head and murmured softly:

"—In this world, no one deserves to be killed."

The moment she finished speaking, a sudden wave of intense pain struck her. Clutching her stomach, she abruptly stood up and rushed out of Kokutou Mikiya's home at an astonishing speed.

Kokutou Mikiya instinctively wanted to follow her, but she lowered her head and raised a single hand—wordlessly signaling him not to come any closer.

"This is goodbye. I hope we never meet again."

And with that, she disappeared.

On her doll-like, emotionless face, only her eyes held the faintest trace of sorrow, as if she were on the verge of tears.

"This is getting more and more confusing… Is this girl a good person or a bad person?"

At the Edward Tavern, Helena voiced her confusion. She had spent most of her life studying at the Imperial Mage Academy, with little experience in the real world, so she still viewed people in terms of simple moral binaries.

In contrast, Viz—who had remained mostly silent—spoke up slowly:

"It's impossible to judge someone solely by good or bad. Before I became a lich, I believed the world was full of good people and that life was inherently beautiful. But after turning into a lich, I was cast out by human society… In the end, what's considered good or bad is always relative."

Belldia nodded in agreement. Both of them had been forsaken by human society after becoming undead, and they deeply understood the pain of being outcasts. They knew all too well that in this world, there was no such thing as absolute good or evil.

Meanwhile, Latisha remained completely silent. As the most powerful lich among them, she had never shown any attachment to the idea of being human.

Everyone knew her indifference stemmed from her past experiences. Even someone as oblivious as Aya didn't dare to question her this time—mainly because Zat had forcefully held her back.

Gradually, the murmuring discussions in Edward Tavern faded into silence.

The small glimpse of Remaining Sense of Pain so far wasn't enough to reveal the true nature of this episode's story.

And so, most people chose to remain quiet, patiently awaiting the next developments—hoping to uncover the mystery behind the enigmatic girl.

On the screen, the film did not pause for even a moment. The story continued to unfold.
