Chapter 162: Pull the Gacha, Pull the Gacha!
This time my final score was surprisingly low… only 90 points…
Altria was next door and I didn't dare say a word. I silently read through the entire post‐battle report and rubbed my temples in frustration.
I felt like, by the end of it, I was far stronger than the Swordmaster—but the system's rating was noticeably lower than theirs. Could it be because I slaughtered so ruthlessly, tanking my reputation score?
I thought it over carefully. Maybe it wasn't reputation alone—but the sheer scale of devastation I'd wrought on Britain. The massive population loss I caused inevitably slowed the nation's development and altered the course of history. Perhaps that's the true grading criteria.
I admit, in the late game I really went berserk… Even I look back sometimes and think I was over the top. It felt exhilarating to carve through those miserable faeries, so much that I could've celebrated with bowls of noodles on the spot. But I do regret the person I became in that blood‐lust spiral. Once you give in to slaughter, once you're caught in that vortex of hatred, it's hard to stop—and the more you kill, the more you lose yourself. Even if the victims were contemptible faeries at first, after enough killing you start to devalue life—both human and fae.
That's not a good path.
—But none of that matters now… after all, it's just a simulation. This run did prove one thing: siding with Bavantzy and then embarking on a personal genocide of the faeries was not a recipe for happiness in this possible future. I hate faeries, but dying myself just to kill them all? Not worth it.
So what's next for me?
I thought for a moment, found no answer, and reopened the interface. Bottom line: if I can't figure it out, I'll stop thinking. It's time to pull the gacha.
[You have earned one free summoning opportunity. Due to your outstanding performance this run, your chances of obtaining a high‐tier reward—and simulation‐related items—are increased.]
Confirm summoning?
"Summon! Why wouldn't I?" I pressed Confirm without hesitation.
A familiar summoning circle flared to life, and a radiance pulsed from within. Then—gold light! The card rotated slowly in midair, and I widened my eyes.
[You've acquired the Temporary Noble Phantasm Projection: "Heavenly Fire, Sanctified Judgement."]
[This projection's current Skill Trait: "Annihilation"]
—"So that the sun never sets, I ascend the heavens and steal away your light."
[System detects you already own this Noble Phantasm with other Traits. It has been upgraded from Rank B to A; its category has expanded from Anti‐Army to also Anti‐Fortress, unlocking additional permissions.]
Temporary Projection: Heavenly Fire, Sanctified Judgement
—"For the one I love, I would sacrifice my very life."
—"Heaven's beasts upon me, converge!"
—"The Abyss of Demons, salvation's blade drawn!"
—"Step forth, this is the edict of deliverance!"
Noble Phantasm Rank: A
(Since this is a non‐full‐power temporary projection, its rank is slightly reduced.)
Type: Anti‐Person / Anti‐Fortress
"An armament from a distant cosmos, capable of channeling the authority of 'God' itself; hailed as the most devastating weapon in existence. When unleashed at its peak, its brilliance rivals even the dying light of a collapsing star."
"This projection has two base forms: a pair of pistols and a greatsword. Simply make a hand‐gun gesture to manifest the pistols instantly; if you wield a physical blade, you can project this Noble Phantasm onto it as a massive flaming greatsword."
(Skill upgrade has increased its base power.)
New Effect: "+Large Advantage vs. All Entities."
"After drawing Heavenly Fire twice, the projection vanishes."
"Current Traits Held: 'Sacrifice,' 'Deliverance,' 'Annihilation.'"
"Collect more Traits to further upgrade this Noble Phantasm and unlock additional features."
Damn it.
I felt like cursing. Another Heavenly Fire? Strong as it is, I can't just keep pulling for the same card forever! Look, gacha newbies need a balanced roster: DPS, healer, buffer… depending on the meta you might need multiple buffers. It's 2025—there are tons of enemy types, so you need varied damage dealers, not one glass cannon.
Why zero in on a single DPS card? Three copies already! Stop obsessing over Heavenly Fire—give me some new characters, please!
Then I noticed a line under its description:
[Once you accumulate five Traits for Heavenly Fire, you'll unlock "Heavenly Fire, Ruin of Eras."]
At that, my frustration evaporated. Of course—this is a "Mi‐HoYo" style game, not a "Moon‐Lit Studio" approach. In "Moon‐Lit," upgrading one character endlessly is suboptimal—but Mi‐HoYo splits a character into multiple Trait shards!
"Fully Awakened" (×)
"Full Breakthrough" (√)
Why didn't they say so sooner?
Suddenly my future looked bright. Heavenly Fire is great, but incomplete without Ruin of Eras. Once I unlock that, I'll stalk the world with my blazing twin pistols and unstoppable blade, one‐shot any boss, maybe level up my local kingdom while I'm at it.
Think you're unbeatable just because your DPS's numbers are huge? Try full‐on gacha god‐tier!
Revived, I cheerfully scanned the next line:
[For every Legendary Event you complete, gain 5 Saint Quartz Fragments. You've completed four Legendary Events: +20 SQ Fragments.]
"Spend Saint Quartz Fragments for one additional pull?"
I had leftover 9 fragments, so now a total of 29. Enough for one more single pull—should I wait or go now? I stroked my chin. Truth is, I'd saved before, but after Bavantzy knocked me out and dragged me off, panic made me spend what I had… But after actually seeing Bavantzy, I realized she wasn't that bad. At first I was wary, but her actions in the sim… even I felt something. Especially when she curled up in my arms like a kitten, gently stroking my face and whispering, "Do you like me at all now?"—I melted on the spot. Who could resist?
Okay, maybe that's unfair to Altria, but Bavantzy went that far for me—my heart might split open and bloom roses!
Still… I really only need two more Heavenly Fire Traits to reach full breakthrough. If I pull Heavenly Fire once more, I'd only need one more Trait to complete it. Damn it, pull now!
"Three is not too many! Go for it!" I eagerly tapped "Single Pull."
[You exchange 21 SQ Fragments for 3 Saint Quartz, leaving you with 8 SQ Fragments.]
[You spent 3 Saint Quartz on a Standard Banner pull.]
[This Limited‐Time Simulation Banner is still UP; you have a high chance at sim‐themed items.]
Congratulations—You obtained the Noble Phantasm Fragment: "Flesh of the Gun Demon."
"No matter the form, the goal is the same: exterminate all demons, and then I will find that one…"
"As long as I can kill the one I hate, I don't care what comes next. After I fail and die, you can laugh at me then."
"If you must die, die far away… I don't want to see anyone sacrifice themselves in front of me."
"Captain Coast, can Section 4 skip the upcoming Gun Demon raid?"
"I'm terrified."
These are the fragments of the flesh eaten by the exorcist boy whose family was slain by the Gun Demon—
Driven by vengeance, sworn to protect his loved ones, he ultimately becomes the monster he loathed, turning his weapon on new family.
This Noble Phantasm has merged with "Chainsaw Boy's Contracted Heart." The following shows its combined form:
Noble Phantasm Name: Contracted Heart of Chainsaw Boy / Flesh of the Gun Demon Fragment
Rank: B
Type: Anti‐Person Noble Phantasm
"The root of all tragedy, bound to two boys parting in a snowball fight, cursed by fate's malice."
"Upon acquisition, the wielder automatically bonds with both the Chainsaw Demon and Gun Demon, gaining some of their powers."
"A pull‐ring appears on the wielder's chest. Pull it to instantly heal all wounds, and you may temporarily transform based on your current state and skills."
"In transformation, you gain the 'Demon' trait: all base stats greatly increase; you deal large bonus damage to demons, evil spirits, and humanoids; you can rapidly heal by consuming fresh blood."
"Upon transformation, you also manifest the Gun Demon's arm, granting potent long‐range combat capabilities: auto‐target, multi‐lock, bullet manipulation."
"All these abilities disappear when the transformation ends."
"While not transformed, any firearm you wield gains auto‐aim: bullets will track enemies."
"You also gain a Contract Gauge. Doing actions aligned with either boy's story fills it; at 100%, it resets and grants one NP use."
Current Contract Gauge: 50%
Available NP Uses: 0
…Seriously?
I nearly cursed again. That snowball‐fighting boy's backstory—torturous. But if I've got both Gun and Chainsaw demons in my roster, maybe next I'll pull Blood Demon to complete the set?
On second thought—that might actually be brilliant. From a bond synergy and practical standpoint, Gun Demon buffs my Heavenly Fire even untransformed; transformation breaks the game—but its catch is blood upkeep. Blood Demon would fill that niche.
As I pondered this, sudden loud CLANGS came from next door—like metal snapping.
"What now?"
I sat up dumbfounded. The cell door next to mine exploded inward, and Altria strode out, standing before my bars—her eyes locked on me.
