Chapter 3: Born From The Shards
"These are…?" he asked in confusion. "I've seen them before… in the Source Genome…"
He seemed to know what they were called, but the pressure crushing down on him blurred his thoughts.
Struggling, he reached out a trembling hand toward the strands.
The shades made of threads began to move slowly at first, then all at once as if magnetized, drawn irresistibly toward his outstretched fingers.
The moment they made contact, radiant lights burst from his body and the shards, the surface of his skin twinkling like countless stars in the night, casting an othe
rworldly brilliance.
"Hmm... Something is wrong," Wei Jian hastened his movements, trying to suppress Wu Yuan to quell the uneasiness in his heart.
Boom!
But before he could act, an unexpected force sent him flying, crashing heavily into the ground.
Wu Yuan slowly levitated, his hair turned darker and was dancing behind his back. He felt like he could suppress the world with his bare hands.
"You… What have you done?" Wei Jian got up, his eyes snapping at the remaining few star shards on the ground.
Although it was broken, at least he could still return the shards to the academy. Who knows, they might have a way to fix it.
Wu Yuan didn't answer but closed his eyes, his face changing between expressions.
Then, beside him, something began to form.
At first, it was just a ripple in the air. But then came the strands, those same blueprint-like threads he saw, twitching and knotting together into a rough, grotesque shape.
It was a malformed, sinewy beast of twisted flesh and bone, crawling on too many limbs and had a single wing at his back.
Elements were swirling around it.
Wu Yuan gasped sharply, blood leaking from the corner of his mouth. His knees buckled, body trembling.
He really overexerted himself.
"Wh… what is that?" Wei jian shouted hysterically.
What an ugly creature, just looking at it made him feel dread.
Wei Jian's eyes narrowed, trying to suppress the shiver running down his spine. "Tch. Trying to scare me with this... thing? Acting tough because of a fluke? I'll show you what real strength looks like!" he roared, aura flaring as he charged forward.
He stretched out his hand again to suppress the beast, but this time with even more strength. He couldn't believe that the beast really had such strength.
"Gale burst palm!" Wei Jian shouted.
A hand materialized above Wu Yuan's head, trying to suppress him.
"Roar!" The beast roared at the hand. And with just that roar, the hand disappeared.
"What!" Wei Jian exclaimed. Though the disappearance of his attack startled him, he held himself together.
What truly shocked him was the roar, it didn't just shake the air, it struck his soul. In that moment, he felt a threat of death. And yet, the beast hadn't even attacked. Just its roar alone had nearly broken him."
But with that roar came a price, the creature's body had already begun to break apart, and the elements whirling around it spiraled into chaos and the entire square became a mess along with it.
"I can't let it attack again…!" Wei Jian said as his scalp went numb with dread. A spear suddenly appeared in his hand.
"Mr. Wei, is this really necessary?" The vice principal couldn't help it anymore. "You're a lancer, if you and that beasts continue to fight here, the children might get hurn. And besides, he's the adoptive son of…."
"Shut up! Will you take responsibility for the Star Awakening Orb? Not even the Alliance can afford it," Wei Jian shouted.
"This…" The vice principal didn't know how to respond.
"Only bringing him back to the Alliance and offering his head would ease the situation a little." His voice turned cold , armor appeared on his body, and the wind element around became chaotic.
Since the pressure on the students had been lifted, they stood up with trembling bodies.
"Wh… what is that!" someone pointed at the beast.
"Hmph! Although I don't know where the trash got this beast from, with a Gale Spearman taking action, there's no way he'll be able to resist." Liu Kai said soothing his aching body.
"Wind Thrust!" Wei Jian roared with a thrust of his hand. The wind element surged around the spear amplifying its lethality, and speed.
The black ball in Wu Yuan's hand also turned into a spear emitting destructive aura. It slowly levitated above his palm until suspended in mid-air.
"Go." Wu Yuan said with still gasping for breath.
As if receiving an order, the beast shot out leaving a trail of destruction on the ground.
The spear and the beasts claw finally collided, but there wasn't a loud sound like expected. The only sound that could be heard was the wind spear breaking.
But the beast's body kept falling apart, faster and faster, like it couldn't hold itself together
But before its body could collapse, it landed a hit on Wei Jian.
The armor on his body glowed.
Bang!
The sound of collision finally rang out and the armor cracked. "Puff!"
He was sent flying, blood spraying from his mouth as he crashed hard into the ground.
"You…!" Wei Jian was horrified. Just one attack had almost killed him.
The beast's body couldn't hold itself together any longer. It collapsed into a pool of blood and shattered bone, with bubbles rising slowly from the mess.
Wu Yuan slowly staggered toward the pool of blood, his face pale. As he approached, threads of light rose from it and drifted into his body
"Brother...!" Sister Ying quickly ran over to support him.
"Sister Ying, don't forget the remaining star shards," Wu Yuan said. Then his body fell limply into Sister Ying's hands.
Sister Ying looked at Wei Jian, whose confidence had been hit due to being defeated in a single confrontation.
"Ying Yue?" Behind her, a voice was heard and a woman who looked just like her suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"Mom!" Ying Yue called her with surprise.
"What happened here?" The mother asked, her eyes scanning the surroundings.
"Here's how..... " Ying Yue quickly explained.
"Hmm... I understand." She turned her head to look at the remains of the beast. "Let me take a look at your brother." She pointed a finger at Wu Yuan's forehead and a wave of energy went out of her finger and through his body.
"Don't worry. It's just his body that's exhausted. I really don't know how he could have such power without being awakened." She turned to Wei Jian.
"What injured him like that?" her eyes widened.
On Wei Jian's chest, tear like marks bloomed, each bursting with different element wreaking havoc within him.
"It seemed to be that creature over there. I think it was brother, he summoned it… and after injuring Wei Jian, it suddenly collapsed…!" Ying Yue recalled what happened and explained.
"If what he said is true, then that creature must have been an unfinished creation… yet it still injured someone like Wei Jian! What about the Star orb?" she suddenly looked at Ying Yue.
"The… the Star Orb shattered." Ying Yue lowered her head. Her voice was barely a whisper.
"What!" Her mother's voice was raised to the limit. She couldn't believe what she heard.
"The Star Awakening Orb is more important to the Alliance than you realize," she said taking in a deep breath. "It's the foundation of the Alliance's power… and the very reason this war has dragged on for nearly three centuries."
She paused, looking into the distance. "This incident, it's going to shake more than you think. The Alliance won't just ignore it. Not when it involves the Orb."
"Let's not talk about this here anymore. It would be disastrous if everyone knew." She got up and looked at the students who still had shocked expressions on their faces.
"I didn't expect there to be a planet-level awakener this year." She looked at Mei Li. "And she even awakened an Aspect… that makes her the second one after you."
"This will be an important matter for the Alliance. There are very few planet awakeners, even rarer are those who awaken with an Aspect. Maybe it'll help ease the situation a little. Oh, and she also seems to be the daughter of a friend."
"It would be best if they forgot what happened today."
As she said that, she waved her right hand and all the students, including the vice principal, except Mei Li, fell unconscious.
"You should keep what happened today quiet. Your father will explain when you get home." She looked at Mei Li and said.
"I understand." Mei Li nodded.
"Good." The mom said and then waved her hand again and she, Ying Yue, and Wu Yuan disappeared.
Whoosh!
Three figures suddenly appeared in a room.
"Mom, how are you going to deal with this? What will they do to Brother if they find out he was the one who broke the Star Orb?" She gently lay Wu Yuan on the bed and asked.
"They shouldn't do anything for now with your dad and me around. But Wu Yuan's life would be anything but peaceful. Sigh!
Wu Yuan has always been special since we found him. Even I, the only Seer in the Alliance, can't see anything when it comes to him."
"You should go join your combat team after Wu Yuan gets better not draw unwanted attention."
"I understand." Ying Yue nodded.
"Why did you bring back the star shards?" She suddenly noticed something in Ying Yue's hands.
"Wu Yuan said that I should bring them back. It's already broken, what use would it be taking it back to the Alliance?"
"Sigh... Although the Star Awakening Core was the heart of the Alliance, it's now in shards. It wouldn't matter taking it back. It's better to give it to Wu Yuan. I would like to see what he plans to use it for."
