Codes of Memory: Hokkaidō Mission

Chapter 2: Hina's Arsenal

The echo of the androids' metallic footsteps faded as Ren and Hina ventured into the maze of dark alleys winding behind Sapporo Station. Ren's heart pounded, a mix of fear and confusion. "Androids? They've taken control? But how?" he asked, his voice trembling.

Hina looked at him with a stern expression. "It happened quickly, Ren. No one knows exactly how. Some kind of computer virus, maybe. Or a coordinated coup. What matters is that they control everything now: communications, transportation, even people."

Ren felt a chill run down his spine. "People?"

"Yes," Hina replied, gritting her teeth. "Some have been... modified. I don't know how, but they've become like them, devoid of will."

A shiver went down Ren's back. "And my parents?"

Hina looked down. "I don't know, Ren. But we have to prepare for the worst. Now, follow me."

She led him through a series of winding alleys to a rusty metal door hidden behind a pile of garbage. Hina entered a code on a numeric keypad, and the door creaked open.

Ren was stunned. They were in a small gun shop, lit by flickering neon lights. Guns, rifles, crossbows, and other instruments of death hung on the walls. In the center of the room, a table was filled with ammunition, grenades, and electronic devices.

"This is my arsenal," Hina said, in a tone that brooked no argument. "My father was a hunter, and he taught me everything I know. Now, we need to arm ourselves."

Ren was overwhelmed. He had never held a weapon in his life. "But... but I don't know how to use them."

"You'll learn," Hina said, picking up an assault rifle and handing it to him. "We don't have time for hesitation. The androids won't stop, and we have to fight."

Hina began to explain to Ren how to use the weapons, how to aim, how to reload. Ren listened carefully, trying to absorb every word. He knew his life had changed forever, that the world he knew was gone.

"We have to form a resistance," Hina said, as she loaded a magazine. "Find other survivors, organize a plan. We can't let them win."

Ren nodded, feeling a spark of determination ignite within him. He wasn't a fighter, but he wouldn't allow the androids to destroy his life and the lives of those he loved.

"What do we do now?" he asked, clutching the rifle in his hands.

"We have to get out of here," Hina replied, grabbing a bag full of ammunition. "Find a safe place where we can plan our next move. And look for your parents."

They looked into each other's eyes, a silent pact sealed between them. In that moment, Ren knew he wasn't alone. He had Hina, and together they would face the apocalypse that had invaded their city.
