Chronicles of Forgotten Extra

Chapter 253: That's not how you talk to a child.

Kyun flew through the sky, her feathers slicing the air.

She loved this feeling of freedom, height and the wind beneath her wings.

But today wasn't just about flying, she had someone to meet. The only mortal who had ever truly seen her.

It had been three months since their first encounter. Back then, when that woman's eyes met hers, Kyun had frozen.

No mortal should have been able to see her. And yet—Amyra had looked at her.

Kyun had half expected her to be another monster like that scary dungeon lady.

But Amyra was different. She was warm and gentle in a way Kyun couldn't name but immediately trusted.

There was something familiar about her as if a part of her already knew this woman.

From that day forward, their secret meetings began.

Each day, in a quiet corner of the academy garden, Kyun would land in her lap and rant about everything.

Her reckless mortal Bond. His absurd training hours. The weird cat girl. And Amyra listened.

With that same soft and patient smile.

Except… sometimes. Just sometimes—when certain names came up—her smile would twist slightly. But Kyun didn't care. She was strange. But she was safe.

And today, Kyun had a lot to complain about.

Especially how that idiot had trained until midnight again and made her stand guard the entire time like some overworked babysitter. [A/N: Her delusions.]

She approached the familiar clearing. The garden. She landed lightly on the stone bench before hopping straight into Amyra's lap. She felt comfortable as always.

The moment she settled, Amyra's fingers reached out, brushing gently through her feathers carefully without a rush.

Kyun let out a low chirp. Then another. To anyone else, it was just bird noise. But Amyra understood.

It was a rant.

Amyra tilted her head, amused. "He trained late again?"

Kyun chirped in frustration and continued. She tried to tell how reckless her mortal bond was becoming day by day.

But before she could continue her rant, she heard a voice. "I told you not to let anyone see you,"

Her mortal bond was here.

Her wings puffed up. She looked away quickly—guilty. Not because she was wrong. He was just… annoying. And loud. And didn't get her.

Before she could chirp in denial. Amyra's voice cut through the silence. "That's not how you talk to a child, Alden."

Kyun blinked up at Amyra. No one had ever spoken for her like that. Not even him.

Her tiny chest swelled and her eyes stung.

She knew it at that moment. Amyra was the only one who understood her.

Back in Alden's dorm apartment.

Alden stared at the duo seated on his couch.

The garden wasn't the place to talk. Not anymore. So he brought them here.

Fuck.

He cursed silently.

He wasn't angry. Just… concerned.

He trusted Amyra… but didn't do it blindly.

He looked at her once more. Her expression was mischievous and nonchalant, like she found the whole situation more amusing than serious.

But to Alden, it was a serious matter.

He hadn't wanted anyone to know about Kyun—not until he was strong enough to protect her.

But now the secret was out. And he had no idea how.

He'd seen Kyun's abilities firsthand. She could hide herself from anyone, regardless of rank or skill.

Unless she chose to reveal herself, no one should've been able to see her.

So how had this happened?

Had she revealed herself?

No. That wasn't possible.

He trusted Kyun on that. She might be a child but she wasn't reckless. If anything, her mind was sharper than most adults'.

She knew the danger.

So, that meant Amyra had seen through Kyun's Void Veil. But that meant, someone else could do that as well.

Alden glanced at the fat white crow perched beside her.

On second thought… even if someone did see her, they probably wouldn't recognize what she was.

A bird too fat to fly, maybe.

But a high-rank spirit? Not a chance.

Hell, he doubted even Amyra knew the truth.

"By the way, Alden," Amyra said casually, "is Kyun really a high-ranking spirit?"

Alden froze.

How the fuck did she deduce that?

He was sure Kyun had never released any mana signature—not even a trace.

She looked no different from an ordinary bird. Hell, even her feathers didn't glow.

"How—? How do you know that?" he blurted out.

Amyra shrugged. "Ah, so it's true. Kyun told me herself."

Kyun told her?

How? She can't even talk. So how the hell did she tell you?

Alden turned toward the white crow, suspicion written all over his face.

The bird immediately looked away.

"Did she… talk?" Alden asked, uncertain.

"No," Amyra replied. "But I can understand what she says."

That made Alden pause. By now, he couldn't make sense of any of this.

Not only could Amyra see Kyun—she could understand those useless chirps?

How?

Even he didn't have that power.

The only reason he could make sense of Kyun at all was because of their mental connection.

Without it, she was just an annoyingly loud bird.

He could see Amyra wasn't joking. She wasn't bluffing either. There was no trace of smugness. Just a calm certainty—like understanding a birds words was the most natural thing in the world.

Alden leaned forward slightly, his voice low.

"How exactly do you understand her?"

Amyra tilted her head as if genuinely pondering the question. "I don't know. I just… do."

She gave a small shrug.

"Maybe it's a girl thing."

Alden pinched the bridge of his nose.

That wasn't helpful.

Not even remotely.

How is understanding birds even supposed to be girl's thing?

"You said she told you she was a high-ranking spirit?" he asked.

Amyra nodded. "Mhm."

"What else did she tell you?"

There was a pause.

Amyra's gaze drifted to the ceiling for a moment before she responded.

"That she likes shiny things. That you overwork yourself. And… that she misses the stars."

Alden blinked.

For a moment, no one said anything.

Then Amyra added, quietly,

"She's lonely, you know."

Alden looked at the white ball of fluff.

And for the first time today, he had nothing to say.
