Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Crushing Battle

"Even if you're part of the Demon Slayer Corps' hidden forces, it doesn't matter. Humans have limits. No matter how much power you hide, you're still just a joke to me." Kokushibo looked at Izumi Uchiha with his six emotionless eyes. He didn't see her as an equal being, but as something far beneath him an ant.

Izumi smirked inwardly at Kokushibo's empty posturing. Saying humans have limits? She wasn't even from this world. And even if humans did have limits, they certainly weren't what he imagined. After all, Kokushibo's own brother, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, had nearly slain Muzan Kibutsuji. Yoriichi was a human far beyond Kokushibo's reach. That man had long since passed away of old age, and now Kokushibo dared to bark about human limits?

"Hmm?" Kokushibo blinked. He felt a faint sense of wrongness, but it was so subtle that he instinctively dismissed it. It appeared that Izumi was already rushing toward him.

He shook his head and lazily blocked her attacks. Her strength was pitiful in his eyes.

*Slice-*

Kokushibo's blade pierced into Izumi's body. Blood spilled from her side.

"Huh?" he muttered, suddenly uneasy. The blood didn't tempt him in the slightest. A warning flared in his mind, but before he could react, a sharp pain bloomed in his neck.

*Crack!*

Like shattering glass, the Izumi he had stabbed vanished. In her place stood the real Izumi, her blade already cutting deep into his neck with a mocking smile.

Kokushibo instinctively pulled back, using all his strength to twist away and deflect her attack. He barely escaped, his neck nearly severed. It had only been a second, and if she had continued her strike, he might have lost his head completely.

Though his regenerative powers quickly healed the wound, fear lingered in his expression. He stared at her in disbelief.

"What was that? An illusion? But you're human! How can a human wield such a technique?"

"Your reaction isn't bad. Your mental fortitude is acceptable too. You actually sensed the illusion," Izumi said, mildly impressed.

"Illusion? Not a Blood Demon Art? Wait… you're human. Humans can wield abilities like this?"

"This is the power you claimed belonged to a limited species. So, what do you think now?" she said with a teasing glint in her eye.

"You only caught me off guard the first time. Now that I know, your illusions are useless."

"Is that so? Are you absolutely sure illusions no longer affect you?"

*Slice!*

Her voice came from behind. Kokushibo barely registered the sound before her blade slashed clean through his neck.

"Damn it! Moon Breathing: Fifth Form Moon Spirit Calamity!" he roared, unleashing an attack in every direction.

"Full-spectrum random attacks to disrupt what you can't perceive? Not a bad idea," Izumi said again, her voice echoing calmly.

Kokushibo gritted his teeth. His head was still attached, but just barely. The illusion had felt terrifyingly real. He had truly believed he was dead.

...

Saeko Busujima's face was flushed. Her grip on the Nichirin Blade tightened until the crimson edge shimmered with pure heat.

Akaza smiled with battle-lust. "Impressive. A woman with such fighting spirit. You're a worthy warrior. Normally I don't kill women, but with someone like you, I may not be able to hold back. If I accidentally kill you, forgive me."

"Heh. You're strong, I admit it. But don't be so sure who's killing who. Let's see what you're made of," Saeko answered, her eyes glowing crimson with bloodlust. She'd slain zombies, humans, but this was her first time facing a demon who devoured people. The thrill made her blood boil. She struck first, her blade flashing with brutal precision.

"Destructive Death: Disorder!" Akaza countered, his fists clashing with her sword, sparks flying at every strike.

...

Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, looked visibly panicked. His opponent wasn't human, but a spider almost as large as a person. This spider moved at incredible speed and agility. In mere seconds, its web covered the battlefield. Several of Hantengu's clones were already caught, stuck in the sticky threads.

This creature's abilities were his natural nemesis.

Especially with this many webs, even his strongest clone couldn't escape. There was nowhere left to hide.

"Hahaha! An Upper Rank Demon, huh? You're not that impressive. You're nothing compared to Earthwyrms. Though I have to admit, your regeneration is insane. Maybe I should bring you back as food storage," Kumoko said cheerfully. She bounced across her web and took a bite out of one of Hantengu's clones.

"Hmm? What is this flavor? There's something emotional baked into it. I bet if I use you in a dish, I could pass as one of Totsuki Academy's Elite Ten."

Hantengu had no idea what "Totsuki Elite Ten" meant, but one thing was clear this spider was terrifying. Not only was she devouring him, but she seemed to enjoy the taste.

He, a demon who feasted on humans, had become prey to another monster. And worse yet, she was complimenting his flavor.

He wanted to run. Far away. Especially after seeing the fate of his fellow demons nearby.
