Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Meng Yiran’s Chūnibyō Getup
The next morning, Su Xiaoqi was still blissfully entangled in a sweet dreamland when Zhao Wuji's damned loud voice yanked him out of it. He really didn't want to get up.
Watching him deliberately act lazy in bed, Zhu Zhuqing felt both annoyed and amused. She yanked his arm and said,"Get up already! Didn't I let you cuddle me the whole night? Isn't that enough?"
She had mentally prepared herself last night for a maybe yes, maybe no situation, but Su Xiaoqi had instead told her that he wouldn't take her first time in a place like this—that he'd wait for the right moment to completely make her his.
The words were rough, but to Zhu Zhuqing, they were incredibly sweet.
Who says Saiyans don't know romance?
The only Saiyan who doesn't is that single-celled Kakarot.
When Su Xiaoqi and Zhu Zhuqing arrived at the gathering spot, they were both shocked by Ning Rongrong's appearance. Su Xiaoqi whispered,"Rongrong, what's with the dark circles under your eyes? Don't tell me you snuck off with someone last night?"
Ning Rongrong coldly huffed at the pair. Her current miserable state was entirely their fault. She'd stayed up almost all night with her ear pressed to the wall trying to hear anything from the next room—yet got nothing.
Seeing her like this, Su Xiaoqi and Zhu Zhuqing exchanged a confused glance, but before they could ask anything more, Zhao Wuji gave the order to depart for Star Dou Forest.
After a half day of intense travel, the group finally reached the forest entrance. Zhao Wuji gave a long-winded list of precautions, then had Oscar hand out sausages to everyone before leading them into the inner forest.
Other than Su Xiaoqi, Zhu Zhuqing, and Xiao Wu, everyone's expression turned serious the moment they stepped into the forest.
Before long, they encountered a group of ten-year soul beasts, and everything began unfolding exactly as it had in the original story. Tang San also made sure to show off his "righteous" side.
Listening to Tang San's grand, noble speeches, Su Xiaoqi couldn't help but find them laughable. The guy was saying these soul beasts posed no threat, so there was no need to kill them.
Yet later in the story, he would go on to slaughter soul beasts without a shred of mercy—then conveniently label them "evil" so their deaths felt justified.
Come on. The relationship between humans and soul beasts is simple: predator and prey. If you want to kill them, just do it. No one's going to say you're wrong. But don't stand on some moral high horse pretending it's all for justice.
It's a joke.
After half an hour's rest at a relatively safe spot, the Phoenix-Tailed Crest Serpent appeared—just as Su Xiaoqi expected.
Without waiting for orders, Su Xiaoqi dashed forward. His fight with Ye Zhiqiu the previous day hadn't satisfied him, and the heat from last night with Zhu Zhuqing still needed an outlet.
Zhao Wuji was furious at his reckless charge but could only suppress his anger for now and quickly began giving orders.
After Tang San showed off his knowledge, he turned to Zhao Wuji,"Teacher Zhao, should we join forces to subdue the Phoenix-Tailed Crest Serpent?"
But before Zhao Wuji could respond, Zhu Zhuqing's cold voice rang out:"None of you are allowed to interfere. Xiaoqi is enjoying himself."
Ning Rongrong chimed in with a cheer:"Go, Su Xiaoqi! Beat that snake to a pulp!"
"Teacher Zhao…"
Oscar was getting anxious. According to Tang San, this serpent's age and the soul skill it could provide were a perfect match for him—he really didn't want to miss out.
Zhao Wuji knew it too, but he didn't dare intervene. Su Xiaoqi wasn't just fighting the serpent—he was toying with it. With his brute strength, he could end the creature's life at any moment.
Not confident he could "steal" the soul beast from Su Xiaoqi, Zhao Wuji could only swallow his frustration and shout:"Su Xiaoqi, please leave this Phoenix-Tailed Crest Serpent to Oscar. On behalf of the academy, thank you."
Up in a tree, Su Xiaoqi had grown bored. As he scanned the surroundings, he figured that since the serpent had appeared, the Snake Lady and Meng Yiran couldn't be far behind.
"Yup, that should be them."
Sensing two figures approaching quickly, he shouted:"Oscar, after all the sausages I've eaten from you, think of this snake as my thank-you gift. Catch!"
Oscar's face lit up."Thanks, man! If you ever want sausages, I'll make as many as you want!"
Looking at the battered, unconscious serpent on the ground, Xiao Wu murmured:"Do we really have to kill soul beasts?"
"What kind of question is that? Soul masters and soul beasts are natural enemies. What, should we wait for them to kill us instead?"
Su Xiaoqi then turned to Tang San with mock curiosity."Tell me, when you hit level 30, will you not kill any soul beasts or take their rings?"
"I…" Tang San was momentarily speechless. After a sigh, he said,"Xiao Wu, the strong prey on the weak—that's nature's law. But I promise, I won't kill soul beasts without cause."
Su Xiaoqi scoffed."You keep contradicting yourself. Care to explain what counts as an 'innocent' soul beast?"
"Or what the definition of 'innocent' even is?"
"Enough." Zhao Wuji stepped in to defuse the tension."This isn't something we can resolve just by talking. Let's not waste time."He handed a dagger to Oscar."Do it quickly before anything else happens."
But just as Oscar was about to act, a sharp voice rang out—"Stop!"
"Took you long enough, old hag."
Su Xiaoqi rolled his eyes. He'd been buying time during that whole exchange with Tang San, waiting for these two to show up. There was no doubt that conflict between Shrek Academy and the pair was now inevitable.
He didn't have a grudge against Snake Lady or Meng Yiran, but knowing how the story played out, he sure as hell wasn't going to just sit back and watch them team up with Tang San later.
Su Xiaoqi hadn't come to Douluo Dalu to make friends—he came to stir chaos.
"You old hag, who the hell are you? Why are you butting in just because we're killing a soul beast? You gonna supervise people when they take a dump too?"
Su Xiaoqi's arrogance was off the charts. Standing beside him, Zhu Zhuqing turned a little pale and muttered,"I'm fine with you stirring trouble, but please stop copying that silver-haired idiot's style."
Across from them, Meng Yiran was furious."You damn brat! Watch your mouth! Do you even know who my grandmother is?"
Su Xiaoqi glanced at her. Plenty of people online said Meng Yiran was beautiful, but he didn't get the appeal at all.
This wasn't a cosplay convention. What was with that overdone smoky eye makeup and that fake tear mark? Was she trying to be some edgelord anime girl?
He walked over to Zhao Wuji's side and looked at the two newcomers with complete disdain."I don't care who your grandma is. Do you know who this guy next to me is?"
"That's the infamous 'Unmovable King,' Zhao Wuji—one of the most feared soul masters around."
"If you know what's good for you, scram. Don't get in the way of us harvesting a soul ring."
