Chaos' Heir

Chapter 1047: Concern

Theoretically, killing Miss Christen over her actions was way overboard as a punishment.

First of all, Miss Christen didn't nor tried to kill anyone. She was nothing more than a superior spy since ordinary ones could easily fail to spot what was happening on Baoway. After all, its leader was an evolved warrior, so only an evolved warrior could match him. Your next read awaits at My Virtual Library Empire

Moreover, Miss Christen wasn't to blame. She was following the Excellencies' orders, making her nothing more than a tool of the real culprits. The fault was with the Nognes family, so the punishment theoretically had to fall on it.

Also, evolved warriors were powerhouses and critical assets in the Global Army's upper echelon. Killing one of them could shift the frail power balance in many directions. In this case, it would weaken the Nognes family, consequently affecting Khan and his relationship with other nobles.

However, Miss Christen didn't question for a second how genuine Khan's threat had been. It didn't only align with his past behavior. His eyes' chilling light carried no hesitation or compromise. His mind was set on that straightforward action.

Khan was just done. Sure, the Nognes family had sent one of its weakest evolved warriors, so its intentions couldn't possibly involve assassination attempts. Otherwise, it would have relied on Bruno or someone as strong as him to avoid unexpected variables.

Sure, spying on Khan was reasonable and almost mandatory now that he had officially joined the Empire. Everyone at those political levels engaged in such behaviors, and the Nognes family had merely picked the best soldier for the job.

Sure, Khan could let everything slide. After all, nothing was broken, and his discovery of Miss Christen already doomed that course of action. Except, he didn't. He just couldn't anymore.

Truth be told, Khan had political grounds for an official execution. His Lordship made Baoway part of the Thilku's domain so Miss Christen's presence on the planet could be seen as an unsanctioned invasion.

Yet, Khan didn't even consider that point. He didn't need to. He simply saw another attempt at messing up with his authority and life, and his mana demanded a single course of action in response.

Khan disappeared, and Miss Christen crossed her arms above her head. A violent, descending kick landed there, shattering the ground under Miss Christen's feet and digging concentric holes. The skin on her limbs also opened, destroying her sleeves into bursts of blood and chunks of flesh.

The damage wasn't significant. The ground didn't break into the gargantuan gorges Khan's kicks could open. Miss Christen's arms and back didn't break in half, either. She had negated part of the attack's momentum, but something had slipped through nonetheless.

Moreover, Khan's offensive wasn't over.

As soon as Khan's feet touched Miss Christen's crossed arms, he swung his cursed knife twice, releasing two scarlet slashes that flew at her shoulders.

The scarlet slashes hit Miss Christen while her figure grew ethereal. She suddenly disappeared, reappearing next to a nearby tree, while the sharp attacks kept flying downward, slamming on the ground.

The slashes cut through the terrain and released their sharp energy, igniting the underground area's entropy. Destruction spread even after the attacks exhausted their power, and the surface eventually caved in, revealing a vast, deep gorge.

Part of that sharp energy also lingered on Miss Christen. Two cuts opened on her shoulders, opening spiderwebs of cracks on her uniform and flesh. The upper part of her clothes didn't survive the attack, but her vitality eventually stopped the expanding wounds on her skin.

Miss Christen healed while the upper part of her pale military uniform fell into a rain of severed cloth. Those tiny pieces broke even further, becoming nothing more than dust once they reached the ground. By then, all her injuries had disappeared, but her clothes obviously didn't come back.

An extremely appealing scene took shape. Strands of Miss Christen's long hair fell over her torso, hiding her modicum but perfect chest, thin waist, and part of her alabaster skin. The sight had every right to be as sensual as they came, but Miss Christen only radiated purity. It was as if something as dirty as lust couldn't exist around her existence.

Of course, Khan didn't try to pierce that ethereal barrier of purity to inspect Miss Christen's figure properly. He didn't look at her like that, nor did he want to.

Instead, Khan's attention was on Miss Christen's evasive maneuver. She didn't just retreat. She had performed a proper teleport, but her ability looked inferior to Lord Envoy's.

Lord Envoy's ability had to do with space itself, seemingly twisting it to perform true teleports. Meanwhile, Miss Christen had relied on her influence in the area to move away. The forest still reeked of her vitality, and she could use it to travel decent distances in no time.

However, the ability wasn't perfect, or at least Khan could outdo it. He was faster than Miss Christen, so she couldn't dodge him completely. Something would always land on her, and her stamina couldn't be endless.

Also, Khan half-believed that destroying the forest would severely limit Miss Christen's ability, and doing that wouldn't require much out of him. Khan heard the area's entropy as clear as day, and Miss Christen's vitality seemed unable to prevent it.

Nevertheless, Khan didn't resort to such methods. He didn't even consider them. That was his forest, so he wouldn't destroy it to gain an advantage over his opponent. It also seemed Khan didn't need to.

"Prince Khan," Miss Christen called, her half-naked figure gaining a slightly tense vibe. "This isn't necessary, and I'm trying my best to avoid escalating the issue. However, I will react if you force me into a corner."

Miss Christen served the Noble family, and Khan was one of its de facto leaders, but she wouldn't hesitate to fight seriously to preserve her life. That wasn't only out of survival instincts. Part of her also disliked Khan, and the desire to get rid of him tried to intrude into her brain.

"Do you think your reaction is worthy of my concern?" Khan asked, lifting the cursed knife to show the purple-red sparks flashing on its blunt edges. "It's time you realize you should have kneeled to me when you had the chance."
