Chaos Carrier With A Broken Talent

Chapter 54: Ice Failure and Treasures

Silence.

No one dared utter a word. Only Klaus's rapid sighs and Loena's slow breathing could be heard amid the cold gusts of wind.

But, even though there were no words, no one could resist looking at Klaus. Even the Twilight Reapers, silent observers, were no exception.

It seemed that Klaus did nothing special. Seeing their battle, a simple person might think that Klaus's victory was guaranteed because he used his ability and defeated Loena.

It was simply that the Patterns of his Catalyst were stronger. He should have done this earlier and beaten Loena, right?

No, only ordinary people or inexperienced Carriers would think that.

The abilities of each Carrier differed greatly from one another, even within the same Catalyst, not to mention the more powerful Carriers who had several Circles and therefore Catalysts.

For one Carrier, the Patterns could be quite similar to one another. Ethan was one of the clearest examples of this. All three of his abilities had a lot in common, their usage differed, but they were all offensive.

At the same time, another Carrier's Patterns could be very distinct. Menir and Aime were clear examples of this. However, like all Patterns, they shared something with the Catalyst.

Klaus's case was the same. His Patterns were very different from each other, and they were particularly difficult to perform.

Some could learn to use their new ability in just a day or even a few hours. Ethan quickly learned all three of his Patterns to a fairly good level. For another Carrier, everything could be different.

Some took months or even years to achieve perfection.

Even that wasn't everything.

Among the abilities were ones that were dangerous if used incorrectly. This wasn't the most common case, but such Carriers did exist, and it was much more difficult for them to learn how to use their abilities.

They couldn't just use their ability over and over again, gradually gaining experience. Each training session was accompanied by preparation and understanding of all the health risks.

Fortunately or not, this was also true for Klaus, and only Loena, as his former partner, knew about it.

"Gha..."

Klaus took a deep breath.

He should have turned around and raised his fist in victory, as any other fighter would have done in his place.

But something strange began to happen to Klaus.

Cold vapor mixed with his energy, enveloping his body in a thin, ice web. His muscles trembled as the energy of his Second Pattern, left uncontrolled, tried to freeze and consume him.

He fell to one knee, his heart beating slower and slower.

'Khm, I was wondering why he didn't use his other abilities. I didn't even know that was possible. Well, I guess I'm lucky my Patterns don't have that problem.'

Ethan looked at the others' reactions, their eyes wide open.

'Although luck had nothing to do with it. Judging by everything, this is a very rare case, and...' Ethan glared at Loena, lying unconscious on the ground. 'Was that the reason for her actions?'

"Fuck!" Sera waved her hand as flames ignited on her palms. "We have to help him or he'll freeze to death!"

Before she could throw the fire orb, the Lost Knight stepped forward. His aura shackled Sera's body, trapping her in place.

"Don't rush." He shook his head. "You won't thaw him, but you'll put additional stress on his body with your flames. Moreover, there is a risk that the Equilibrium of Elements will be set. In that case, you will kill him with the recoil."

His aura no longer affected Sera, but she canceled her flames herself. The Lost Knight was right, it was too dangerous.

But her concern was not unfounded. Something had to be done, or Klaus would die right in front of them.

Aime turned to Ethan, meeting his calm gaze, but his tapping finger on his elbow betrayed his true emotions. He was worried as well.

The Lost Knight leaned forward, reaching out his hand toward Klaus's body, covered in ice.

"Hah, I don't often have to take action, but this fight was worth it, I won't lie."

As soon as the Lost Knight's aura intensified, cracks ran across the ice. The energy emanating from the Lost Knight's hand completely suppressed Klaus's power, basically preventing him and his body from doing anything.

This technique was only possible with a monstrous power gap.

This was further proof that none of them stood a chance against the Lost Knight.

If Klaus had attacked the Lost Knight with serious intentions to kill him, the Lost Knight would have defeated Klaus only because of his superior aura.

Ethan frowned as he watched the ice crystals roll off Klaus's body, freeing him from his captivity.

'Not that I have much experience, but isn't that a bit too impressive for a Special Tier Monster? This thing... It's like it can turn all of us into nothing with the snap of a finger.'

"GHA!"

Suddenly, Klaus took a deep breath, coming to his senses.

Cough! Cough! Cough!

He coughed as the Lost Knight touched his shoulder.

"Good, you have a strong body, young man. But, I'm afraid that after everything that's happened, you have one last step to take."

Klaus didn't try to refuse or let others pity him because of his wounds. No, instead, he stood up and gripped his sword tightly with both hands.

"I'm ready. I challenge you to a fight... I have the right to, don't I?"

"Without a doubt."

The Lost Knight nodded and took a few steps back.

"Show me what you're capable of. Based on how you perform, I will decide whether you are worthy of the reward or not."

Klaus had no other choice.

He gripped the sword tightly with both hands and stepped forward, preparing to bring his weapon down on the Lost Knight.

Whoooooooooosh.

With a gust of wind, he stopped.

In the blink of an eye, the Lost Knight was in front of him, and his white sword was right at Klaus's neck.

Their fight didn't even last three seconds, but... did Klaus lose?

"SHIT!" Klaus clenched his teeth. He wanted to attack, his hands trembling with desire, but he knew he would die if he did.

The Lost Knight grinned.

"You pass."

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

At the same moment, the ground shook as dozens of light rays emerged, each holding a treasure.
