Chapter 769: Dumbledore The Black Phoenix vs. Kai The Yellow Warlock — Play I
Kai looked at the true Albus Dumbledore as he burned the Despair he carried on his shoulders, turning it into magic.
Then, as if sensing mysteries in the air, Kai looked up.
Against the hideous, yellow star, he spied a massive image of a Black Phoenix, spreading its burning wings, emanating waves of magical heat.
In a matter of a second, the heat waves covered the space around Dumbledore, Kai, and Theodore.
Bounded Field? Kai observed. No… A touch more…
"Forget it…" Dumbledore said, planting his black eyes on the Yellow Warlock. "You will not be replacing any reality in my domain."
Kai instantly tried to cast Reality Marble but failed. His eyes narrowed. So the Lucky Intuitions were right… He's backed by that True Phoenix, the Half-Deep One, if not both the Phoenix and the Qilin. Which means…
"Ha… Haha…" The Yellow Warlock laughed, flicking the sword. "Someone's having a Wand issue…"
Dumbledore's eyes stirred, his wand-wielding hand trembling.
Yes. Ever since he had received assistance from the Phoenix of Avalon, he had been having issues with the Wand.
He was getting more and more powerful, but he could feel it in his bones… the Elder Wand wasn't rising as much in strength as it should have.
Unlike Dumbledore, who only had an idea why it was happening, Kai knew for a fact the reason behind it.
The Elder Wand was an artifact created by Death the Artificer, the only Bubble Entity of this Random World. How could HE tolerate such blatant meddling by another Half-Deep One?
"You need not worry about my Wand, Lord Yellow Warlock," Dumbledore said, taking a deep breath, his black cloak billowing like mist around him. "You will not be leaving my domain alive."
As if sensing something, Kai looked over his shoulder.
The cursed runic marks coursing over and inside Headmistress Theodore's body were burning. A black heat was misting off her body, melting away the curse inside her. Not only that, but the wound left behind by Murasame was regenerating at a visible pace.
Phoenix's Regeneration? Kai guessed as the Ad Infinitum processed the absurd magical phenomenon. This timeline is advancing at a much faster rate. It was a good idea to make a move today.
He looked back at Dumbledore. "You knew I would be coming here?" he asked with a blatant hint of amusement. "That magic has not been cast recently."
Theodore eyed Dumbledore beyond the Yellow Warlock.
This… strange-Dumbledore had contacted her a week ago, saying that he had a hunch that Yellow Warlock might be attacking Ilvermorny School.
She had refused to believe this man was even Dumbledore. Much less needed to be said about letting him enter the School to ambush the dark wizards.
It wasn't like Theodore had considered herself too powerful to brush away Yellow Warlock's threat.
But she just had too much confidence in the double Concealment Charms cast over the School. It was, perhaps, the best in the world.
That mistake had cost her a dozen students' lives.
Theodore's teeth rubbed against each other, her eyes watering. "Don't let him leave!" she cried. "I will help you!"
Crack!
A black bolt of lightning struck Yellow Warlock as Dumbledore cast the Killing Curse non-verbally.
Then, it exploded in black wisps, not even budging the target.
Theodore gasped in terror.
"Don't be fooled by his trickeries!" Dumbledore warned. "Let's see if he can pull it off a second time as well…"
Kai boomed out of existence.
A black swirl of fire chased him, firing Killing Curses. Behind the black fire, Theodore, gaining some of her confidence back, transfigured back into Snallygaster and chased the dark wizard.
Kai tugged the Eon Soul Dew, but it seemed the domain was powerful enough to keep the Item out, stuck in some kind of limbo.
The good thing was, Kai wasn't a one-trick pony.
Black, cursed flames swirled around Murasame.
Suddenly, one arm of the Yellow Sign on Kai's forehead lit up as he began decoding the mysteries of Ancient Magical Script.
A rune, full of death, manifested in front of Kai.
He infused that rune within the cursed flames.
Then, turning around, he hacked.
CRACK!
A bolt of black, cursed flames, infused with the Killing Curse, rumbled between Kai and Dumbledore.
The black swirl of flames ran right into Kai's modified spell.
"Dumbledore!" The Snallygaster behind them all roared in human speech.
Struck dead, the black swirl of flames returned into the shape of black-bearded Dumbledore. Then, he fell back. Lifeless.
Out of nowhere, Lucky Intuitions went haywire.
…
Lucky Intuition &^*$%: The Half-Deep One manipulated my senses to kill Dumbledore!
Lucky Intuition &*#$%: Dumbledore wanted to get killed by me. It's part of the Phoenix's magic!
…
Kai's Luck was so high that now only other eldritch existences could counter it.
For his Lucky Intuitions to realize the seriousness of the situation a touch later than they should have, it more than confirmed his earlier guess regarding the Phoenix in Avalon.
True to Kai's instincts, the lifeless body of Dumbledore stirred.
In a fraction of a second, it caught fire, black flames burning high like a lit spire. In another fraction of a second, Dumbledore's body turned to ash.
Then, with a bang, a hand shot out from the ashes.
The Snallygaster stumbled back as Dumbledore walked out from his own ashes.
However, this Dumbledore was different. He was younger. He barely looked in his forties, with a lush black beard and vibrant eyes. His black robes billowed as if their robes were flaming. And he was wielding the Elder Wand with a renewed elegance.
"My thanks…" Dumbledore said, smiling. "… Lord Yellow Warlock."
Kai lifted his hood and stared at the main storyline Character that had stepped into the domain of a Top-level 11th-floor Contestant just now. "You… have gone mad, Lord Black Phoenix."
Dumbledore's smile faltered a bit, but he regained it instantly. "All is fair…"
Kai smiled back. "Indeed."
Just now, Kai had sensed Dumbledore burning his soul. Not just his Soul, but all the Souls of all Dumbledores he had consumed from other timelines.
This magic itself would have erased Dumbledore's existence.
However, the Phoenix seemed to have granted some ancient magic to Dumbledore. Every time he burned and died, he came back younger and stronger.
There must be a condition… Kai observed, looking up at the Black Phoenix and then back at Dumbledore. I didn't want to kill him at all because I couldn't hurt him as per my deal with the Timeline. But… this domain… can it really change the Timeline's restrictions and rules?!
"I must be killed by someone I deeply hate in my domain," Dumbledore told the Yellow Warlock, seeing the question written on his face. "That hate brings me back. Always."
The Faceless suddenly brought a touch of fear to his face, as demanded by the circumstances.
At that exact moment, Kai suddenly realized that this was the dream he had when he was on Actaea over 1300 years ago while carrying out his Main Mission regarding Daenerys' Dragon eggs.
However, a few things seemed misplaced… as Black was using the army of undead, instead of him now.
That must be some kind of gesture of good faith from the Drowned God of Game of Thrones Random World, Kai analyzed with the help of the Ad Infinitum and Lucky Intuitions. But even HE couldn't have taken DEATH's creation, Black, into account, then. Hmmm… I think I have done enough damage today. Unless I figure out a way to kill Dumbledore without making him more powerful, fighting with him is foolish at best.
"Killed by someone you hate…" The Yellow Warlock mused, commanding the Lethifold. "What if… you get killed by someone you love… Lord Black Phoenix?"
Then, leaving behind a shaken and bewildered Dumbledore, Kai disapparated.
