Chapter 754: The Yellow Warlock vs. The Herpo the Foul — First Face Off!!! (I)
Kai and Black walked next to each other, the Calm around them settling like snow on their shoulders.
Over a black shirt and black pants and shoes, Kai donned Lilith as a yellow cloak, his short hair rustling with the slightest wind. His hazel, slitted eyes kept narrowing now and then, the purple, demonic rims around the pupils glowing brighter than ever.
In the same get-up, but without the cloak, Black matched Kai's steps, his hands in the jeans pockets. Wind played the same game with his short, black hair as well, his blacker-than-black eyes trembling with every gust.
In front of them lay the destroyed domed, scientific lab, bolts of magical lightning thundering around the debris.
If one listened closely, then buried under the rumbles there were screams as if countless souls were howling. But the fire was blazing high, its tongues lashing out along with the winds, making it impossible to tell.
Kai and Black came to a stop in front of the charred building.
Their eyes reflected not only the blue-green bolts of lightning but also the fire and rage.
Figures began appearing behind them then one by one, their faces paler than pale; almost white.
From above, the Grimoire fell, coming to a stop above Kai's head. With one thought, the Characters materialized next to the Contestants.
Kai and Black turned around.
The look in their eyes chilled even the non-existent souls.
Meg put a paper-wrapped Tina down, stepped forward, and kneeled, trembling. "I… take responsibility for this, Your Majesty," she said. "I will accept any punishment."
Everyone's heads were down.
Red Sun, Moraine, Spawn, Rintaro, Orochimaru, Mayuri, Petyr, and even Cersei… it was like the gravity had increased a hundred times on their necks.
If they even tried to resist the force, their necks would snap at that moment.
The perception of their impending death was strong in the air. Very strong.
It didn't matter who did what for things to turn out like this. It didn't matter who was responsible. It also didn't matter who stepped forward and took all the blame.
At this moment, they were prepared for just any outcome.
Kai looked at Meg kneeling in front of him and then at the row of the Contestants and the Characters. "Selene…" he said, his voice a needle hammering into the hearts.
Silvery, ghost-like mist oozed out from the ground all around and took the shape of the three girls.
The Time Devourer said rationally, "… Neither men nor beasts can be blamed for coincidence, master."
The Space Devourer said airily, "… I wish I could kill in your place, master, and lift this burden off your shoulders."
The Life Devourer spat on the ground. "I did nothing wrong. Don't look at me like that."
Black took a deep breath, running his fingers through his hair, and sighed.
There was a reason Kai hadn't destroyed the Glacial Ice Horcrux.
From the moment he had obtained it, he had been having Lucky Intuitions to keep it secured until he obtained all Horcruxes from Hogwarts and had dealt with Merlin's Staff — the Imperishable Artifact.
Kai pushed Meg back, her body skidding, coming to a stop between Red Sun and Spawn.
"I was cursed," he told them, heads snapping up, shocked beyond measure. "My Luck dropped to negative fifty…"
The total number of Luck cursed off him was 200.
However, as Kai already had over 150 Luck, the total came about to be negative fifty.
He dared not to think what could have happened if he had been cursed before regaining his original value of Luck during the Sorting Ceremony.
Meg's jaw dropped. "Impossible…" she mumbled, her face gaining a color whiter than white. "… No. That's…"
Red Sun, Moraine, and others looked at Kai as if they had underestimated how hideous a monster the Emperor was.
None knew how much Luck Kai had, but they had an idea.
If all that had happened was because of Kai's bout of unluckiness, then the damage was more severe than what the eyes were seeing, wasn't it?
"I know nothing capable of something like this…" Moraine hissed, her eyes flashing golden. "… other than a Temple of an Old One…"
Kai and Black looked at each other.
[Temple of Hastur or Temple of Amon-Gorloth…] The Ad Infinitum beeped. [Someone from the 5th Set has acted.]
Lucky Intuition No. %^&*% — Quasi Cipher Pol or Millennium Magical Alliance.
Kai looked at Mayuri, Orochimaru, and Rintaro.
Mayuri looked nonchalant despite everything that had happened. "It's alright," he replied. "The Subject's still alive…"
Orochimaru's long tongue slithered over his lips. "I warned you," he said, matching Kai's reptilian gaze. "We should have directly begun with the Impregnation Phase, instead of…"
Rintaro kept quiet, obviously disagreeing with the two murderous Characters.
"Something like this can't be replicated," Petyr counseled, holding his chin. "The best thing to do was to assess the true extent of the damage, first, lest something slipped away from our calculations."
Cersei's head was still down.
Meg had stepped forward to take the blame, but it was she who believed was responsible for all this. She should have seen this coming. She had felt the disaster coming. But… she wasn't strong enough to act fast… and then this happened.
Cersei feared looking up and seeing the disappointment in Kai's eyes.
Black looked at them all and sighed. "Start anew. I will contact…"
It happened then.
One moment, Kai and Black were still holding Calm's threads by the ends. Suddenly, those threads snapped.
Crac-kk-kkk!!!
Ethereal bolts of yellow lightning shook the entire Headquarters, the Contestants bleeding from the corner of their eyes, their ears bursting apart.
Even the Characters didn't fare better, their figures blurring, on the brink of returning to the Grimoire.
"Who…" Kai hissed, grabbing the three Selenes and pushing them inside him.
Black finished murderously, his humor factor dropping to zero. "… dares?!!"
Then, with a soundless pop, both blinked out of existence.
…
A few moments before,
Herpo the Foul walked through the Hogwarts corridors, wearing green robes and wielding the Basilisk Staff, with its mouth opened and its eyes closed.
With each step, the ancient wizard left behind greenish afterimages, their colors toning down as one moved away from the body. It was as if there were many Herpo the Fouls, walking behind each other, their bodies blurring even more with every next one.
Strange as it was, Herpo the Foul held a thin smile on his face.
His green, curly hair kept slithering as if they were thin, headless serpents.
The seven-colored lotus on his forehead had disappeared, but it was still there.
With his empty hand, he kept holding his goatee, his thoughts unknown.
The students couldn't see him. The Professors couldn't sense his existence, either. The Ghosts were even less worthy to notice him.
As he enjoyed the fresh air of the School, and felt the mixture of joy and hopelessness on Christmas, knowledge came pouring into his mind.
From the Battle of Legends to the Intra-House Competitions, there was nothing that Herpo the Foul didn't learn in these few moments.
When he was done, the first name that came out of his mouth was… "Darcie… The Timeline's Chosen One?"
The second name that slithered out of his mouth was… "Black… Ancient Magical Script?"
By the time the third name came out, he was already gone, rows of words echoing behind him from the afterimages. "Draco… Really? You couldn't do better?"
Silently, as if coming out from the seams of the world, Herpo the Foul appeared in a village, still scratching his goatee.
As he walked, leaving greenish afterimages, he looked at the Cunestune's villagers, shaking his head. "I will send you poor souls to reincarnation… This is… mercy."
Thud!
Herpo the Foul slammed the tail of the Basilisk Staff on the ground.
A shockwave rippled out with him as the center.
Whoever the shockwave touched, a green mist came seeping out from their eyes, along with their lives.
One by one, every villager, from young to old, and even the animals and insects, began dying, the ancient wizard reaping their souls.
When not one thing remained alive in the village, Herpo the Foul slammed the Staff again, his feet leaving the ground.
Thud!!
As if a humongous, depthless sinkhole had opened up under the village, the earth collapsed unto itself, burying the houses and corpses… along with the high-tech scientific labs that existed hundreds of meters underground.
And out came an unseen geyser of despair, darkening the night sky gray.
For the first time, Herpo the Foul frowned, his green, reptilian eyes shaking, trembling with rage, his mouth hissing out the fourth name.
-… Yellow Warlock…- he hissed with Fury, looking up.
The yellow-robed disaster looked down. -Herpo the Foul…-
