Chapter Begins:
Sunday 31 May 1987
11:30 pm
Malfoy Manor
A blue-black vortex spat out Kai out of the Time Node.
He looked around, finding things familiar and unfamiliar both at the same time.
"It's… Darcie's bedroom," Kai mumbled, blinking away the oddity. He lifted his hands, clenched and unclenched his fingers, felt his beating heart, and smiled.
Over 1300 years had passed since Kai had been standing in the exact spot before leaving for the 3rd Stage of the Tournament of Worth.
There was an ancientness in Kai's hazel, reptilian eyes, time leaving its mark on his 18-year-old youthful face.
Suddenly, a mass of silver-ghostly mist puffed out of him, becoming Selene.
-… Master…- she hissed, her voice trembling. -… Master… is that… you?-
Kai looked at the old serpent and couldn't help but smile gently.
-Master!- Selene lunged at him, coiling up around his body, and kissed his chin with the forked tongue.
-Alright, alright,- Kai said, feeling good.
But Selene didn't stop, tears falling from her blind eyes.
Kai caressed her white, draconic scales, her body trembling as the yellow-black-colored rings pulsated along her length.
Out of nowhere, the world hummed.
Kai was alarmed at first, but then he remembered that it was an effect of his minor-epithets.
Sure enough, there were three letters in his Inventory now, sacrificed by Meg, Spawn, and Moraine as per his orders.
With Selene still coiled around his shoulders, Kai took Meg's letter out first.
…
Congratulations on winning the Tournament, master!
I wish I could be there with you to celebrate this momentous occasion. Please tell me everything that you experienced in the 3rd Stage when we meet next time.
On my end, I secured the 4th place in the Tournament.
My Survival was based around a deformed Random World of Naruto and Pokemon, with Tailed Beasts acting as the Mythical Pokemon.
I spent 600 years in that world…
I could have stretched it by another century, ending up at 2nd or 3rd place, but I decided against it. I hope you will forgive me for this, master.
For 3rd Stage's rewards, I gained Chakra Manipulation and Archery Abilities, a Standalone Title — Kunoichi, ten Hand Seals suited to my Master Origami Creation Ability, five Ninjutsus, twenty Attribute Points, and …
Hehe… I know you will like this one, master.
… One Tail — Shukaku!
Sadly, it's not exactly a Magical Creature.
The good thing is it's a Growth-type creature.
I am guessing it can grow to become Two Tails, Three Tails, and so on.
Alright, that's it from me, master. My Main Mission might last for another few years. Looking forward to joining you after that.
Morning Mist
…
Sadly, it's not exactly a Magical Creature?
Kai instantly scoffed, seeing those words.
He was sure Meg was glad it wasn't a Magical Creature. Still, he didn't mind.
She sounded different to him even in the letter.
More optimistic, attached, and involved…
Time plays differently with different people, I guess, Kai mused, folding the letter. I hope you haven't gone complacent, my slave.
The sheer number of rewards didn't puzzle Kai.
The Systems rewarded everyone as per their ranks.
So, if he only received Black as the 3rd Stage's reward, it meant Black alone was enough to contend against all Meg's rewards.
Not to mention, other than Kai, no one won the Tournament.
To get the final rank in the Tournament, the Systems only counted how long a Contestant lasted in the 3rd Stage, not actually successful clearance.
It was only with Kai that he wasn't allowed to Give Up because he was a Glitched Contestant.
With her rewards and experience, Meg should be powerful enough to claim the Top-level 6th-floor Contestant's Title soon… Kai wondered. She's right. There's no point in letting my subjects roam freely on their own now.
It was especially so when Meg's overall Rank would cause a storm in the Primordial Tower, given her previous lying-low attitude in the 2nd Stage.
How would the Temple of Hastur handle this storm now?
Taking a deep breath, Kai unfolded the second letter.
It was from Moraine.
…
You won…
I gave up after surviving 300 years in Zombie World where they all had Iron Man-like armor.
The upper echelon among them were Spirits, wielding ghostly armor and swords.
I am in the 7th rank.
Stark Blue
…
Kai frowned, sensing the vast feelings of dejection in the letter.
It wouldn't surprise him if there was also a Samurai Jack-type figure guiding her in this Zombie World.
Perhaps Tony Stark… Kai guessed, noticing the shaky ink on the Stark word.
He unfolded the third letter, then.
It was from Spawn.
…
I need more power.
…
Kai's lips twitched.
He smiled.
And you will have it… Kai decided, his eyes pulsating with thousands of schemes.
This wasn't the end, though.
…
[Contestant Red Sun is contacting you through Primordial Tower Trade Market…]
…
When Kai accepted the connection, a screen popped up in front of him, showing a blurred figure.
[Guess who became a 10th-floor Contestant?] Red Sun asked loudly, sounding extremely happy.
Kai's eyes narrowed. He had been looking forward to Red Sun becoming a 10th-floor Contestant for hundreds of years.
Of course, outside the Time Node, Red Sun seemed to have just ascended to the 4th Set.
[Oh, yes. You won the Tournament,] Red Sun said, chuckling. [But that's not a big deal… given…]
Kai couldn't see Red Sun, but he could bet his ass the grown man was winking at him right now.
"Don't attempt your Main Mission," he told Red Sun.
[Why?] Red Sun asked, confused.
"…"
[… Alright.]
"One more thing," Kai said, caressing Selene's head. "Are Digimon Magical Creatures?"
Red Sun scratched his head. "They are and they are not," he answered. "When they are outside, they behave as Magical Creatures. Technically, they are Digital Forms."
Kai licked his lips, catching onto the uncertainty.
For Pokedex to record the Digimon data, there must be something organic about them.
"I need you here, Red Sun," Kai ordered. "We need to visit a few worlds together."
[… Visit?]
Red Sun was just about to ask what Kai meant by visiting worlds when he cut the connection.
Not a moment had passed when Kai received another notification.
…
[Contestant Purple Mist is contacting you through Primordial Tower Trade Market…]
…
Despite over a thousand years of experience, Kai's body went taut.
Only those who were in the Primordial Tower could contact someone like this. Even then, only Party Members could contact through Primordial Tower Trade Market as Code Names weren't specific to an individual.
Just who knew how many Red-named Contestants were there in the Primordial Tower anyway…
But there was one more person who could contact Kai now, despite this ambiguity — his Sponsor!
Not to mention, this wasn't the Code Name of Viceroy…
King Purple Mist… Kai remembered.
He accepted the call.
…
[Congratulations, Red,] King Purple Mist said, seemingly with no emotions. [Did you get Fiend Standalone Title?]
If Kai's body had gone taut before, then it was shaking like a bow at its maximum capacity now.
Experience was all and good up to a limit, too.
When it came to an 18th-floor Contestant, one had already gone beyond that.
For now, Kai had only one thought — how to hide the matter of The Boundary and Glitch?
Mentioning The Boundary would reveal the clue regarding the Cartoonist, who, if Kai wasn't guessing it wrong, possessed the Blessing of Bugs Bunny — a thing desired by the Kings.
Mentioning Glitch, by a Chaos' Contestant, was worse than that.
So, like always, Kai depended upon truths to hide the lies.
"Yes."
[Set Assimilation?]
"…" Kai took a deep breath. "Yes."
[Are you willing to become a Sith?] King Purple Mist asked.
Kai's reptilian, hazel eyes pulsated slyly, a tiny drop of Calm sprouting in his heart.
"I can be a Sith whenever I want," he answered.
[You reek of Faceless Men.]
Kai's heart thumped. He still couldn't sense an iota of annoyance or anger in the King's voice, but… he could feel it in his bones.
[Ah… For your Observation Haki to even sense my annoyance… Do you have an Emotions Manipulation-related Ability as well?]
"…"
[You already have Telekinesis. It can take many routes.
You are taking the route of controlling elements. Before upgrading it to Elite, you must obtain mastery over controlling all natural elements as well as the Changes in nature.
Then, go to Verse Fusion, and fuse it with Master Emotions Manipulation, or any Emotion-related Ability. Make sure their Proficiencies are the same.
You will get a Force-related Ability then.
There are other ways, but this is better for you.
Now, before I leave, I have one more question for you.]
Somehow, Kai didn't want to hear this next question, no matter the consequences.
[Is the name of your dual swords-related Ability… Twin-Saber Style?]
Huh?!
Kai's body jolted with shock.
How could the King name the Ability that he hadn't shared with anybody?
[… Hmm… Interesting.]
And the call disconnected.
Thoroughly gobsmacked, Kai reached for the ring finger on his right hand like he had done for a thousand years before.
But his fingers didn't find what he had been looking for.
In pure shock, Kai looked down and found the Onyx Ring missing.
~ There are only two ways for Contestants to come to The Boundary. First, an Emperor helps you, sacrificing his butt. Second, you die at a place, which is neither in the Random Worlds nor in the Primordial Tower, with the Resurrection Stone, and a particular Title that is not a Title… ~
The Cartoonist's words rang in Kai's mind.
Then, another row of words followed, like ghosts.
~ Keep it, mate. You wante' a gift, eh? Well, there yeh have it. May it help yeh in findin' love… ~
Remembering Jack Sparrow's words, and with a racing heart and thoughts, Kai finally connected the dots.
Pushing the King Purple Mist's strange question in the back of his mind, Kai took out the Tale of Beedle the Bard.
He called her out.
Cersei, stunned, looked back at him, her green eyes dancing around Kai's face.
Tears streamed down her eyes as she threw herself on him, wrapping her arms around his neck, ignoring Selene.
She didn't say anything, but Kai heard her loud and clear.
— Faceless or not, her love cannot be fooled… or forgotten.
