Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 99 - Various Tangles

Hebrew Adam’s suggestion to hold a meeting with Ruo Manni wasn’t whispered, so the other members of the elite class overheard it. Consequently, several new students assigned to the same team gathered around, forming a circle around the two leaders, Hebrew Adam and Ruo Manni.

Meanwhile, Mina-Olli moved away from Ruo Manni and walked over to where Hua Deli was, and the members of the second team naturally grouped together.

Ruo Manni noticed Dean Atchison’s expression. After his protest in the morning had failed, he hadn’t shown any overt dissatisfaction, but there was a hint of gloom on his face.

However, perhaps the earlier warm-up exercise had eased his mood. Now, he was discussing things with Hua Deli amicably, and his demeanor no longer showed any signs of conflict. After all, they were cousins, and their relationship was generally more tolerant than with others.

When Dean Atchison had voiced his protest that morning, Hua Deli hadn’t shown any discontent either, and his attitude towards Dean had remained unchanged.

Ruo Manni couldn’t help but marvel that, as expected of the male lead, Hua Deli had a fairly broad-minded character.

Beside her, Hebrew Adam said, “As elite students like us, once we form a team, we can apply for a special training room at the school. However, the training room isn’t free; we need to use our credits to rent it. I booked a training room yesterday and prepaid a month’s rent. If you all don’t mind, we can start sharing the costs from next month.”

Ruo Manni was a bit surprised; she hadn’t expected this second prince to be quite pragmatic. No wonder he was the younger brother of the first prince.

For the privileged second prince, prepaying for a semester’s worth of training room costs was likely just a small matter. However, considering that all the talented students in the elite class had their own pride, his approach could easily make the other team members feel belittled.

Prepaying for one month and then sharing the costs afterward perfectly showcased his generosity and decisiveness, while also demonstrating his respect for his teammates’ wishes.

“Captain is wise! Thank you, Captain, I have no objections,” Sheila happily buttered him up.

Just a moment ago, she had been standing next to Ruo Manni, but now she was cunningly gravitating toward Hebrew Adam. Ruo Manni chose to ignore it.

This was Sheila’s typical behavior; if she wanted to, she could be very sweet-tongued, but if she didn’t, she could be quite snarky.

Regarding Hebrew Adam’s arrangement, Su Forty-Three, Tamaki Kazia, and Tino Venamoinen all expressed their approval, saying things like, “Having a fixed training area is excellent; that way, we won’t have to compete with other military students for training space…”

Ruo Manni wasn’t sure what they meant by the training room. Since she didn’t know, she felt she had no right to speak. Instead, she just smiled and listened to them.

Hebrew Adam gestured for Ruo Manni to walk with him. As the team leader, it was most appropriate for him to walk alongside his vice-captain, and Ruo Manni moved beside him, matching his pace.

Ruo Manni noticed Sheila’s expression change slightly.

During their special training on the island, Ruo Manni had secretly observed Sheila’s expressions. Although she occasionally liked to annoy Mina-Olli, it seemed that she had no unusual feelings toward Hua Deli.

Later, when Hebrew Adam appeared, Sheila’s expression changed significantly; she was clearly eager to catch his attention.

Unfortunately, the flirtatious prince who loved to play with women in novels was just a cool, rebellious young man in reality, completely oblivious to the subtle glances Sheila was sending his way.

Ruo Manni had initially found it amusing to watch from the sidelines, but now it seemed that the situation was a bit off. While Hebrew Adam might not have been particularly kind to her, he showed even less interest in Sheila, often inadvertently overlooking her presence.

Now that she was the vice-captain, Ruo Manni couldn’t avoid interacting with Hebrew Adam, the team leader. She wondered how Sheila would feel about this. If such situations occurred frequently, would Sheila become darker in her intentions?

Ruo Manni hadn’t forgotten that Sheila was one of the malicious female side characters in the novel; given her status and intelligence, she would definitely be more formidable than Aoi Dan if she were to go down a dark path.

Ruo Manni considered whether she should find a way to brainwash Sheila before she turned dark, instilling the idea that women should not make things difficult for other women.

Although they had trained together for over a month, Ruo Manni had always kept a respectful distance from Hebrew Adam, with their conversations never exceeding ten sentences.

This time, walking side by side, Ruo Manni was closer to Hebrew Adam than ever. She realized he was taller than both Dean Atchison and Hua Deli, with a more upright posture and a much stronger presence.

As a Level 5 telekinesis practitioner, Ruo Manni was not affected by the pressure of a warrior’s aura. While telekinesis practitioners didn’t radiate an aura like warriors, she wouldn’t be suppressed by one either, especially since she was also a Level 4 beginner warrior. Walking beside Hebrew Adam, she felt no pressure at all.

Therefore, Ruo Manni didn’t notice that the other three boys were watching her and Hebrew Adam’s backs, as well as Sheila’s complex expression that shifted from envy and jealousy to a kind of helplessness.

With the gaze of other new students still warming up, Ruo Manni and her group walked out of the training area with ease.

Ruo Manni even took the opportunity to “appreciate” Aoi Dan’s twisted face when she saw her walking alongside the second prince.

However, things quickly turned awkward as Hebrew Adam signaled for a two-seater flying car.

Instinctively, Ruo Manni reacted quickly and also signaled for a two-seater flying car, smoothly getting in. She then turned back and called out to Sheila, “Sheila, please have a seat.”

Sheila hesitated but eventually got into the flying car with a conflicted expression.

In theory, it made sense that since Ruo Manni and Hebrew Adam were walking side by side and Hebrew Adam had called for a two-seater flying car, they would naturally sit together. The flying car was convertible, so there was nothing inappropriate about it.

By summoning another flying car, Ruo Manni felt that she had somewhat embarrassed Hebrew Adam, which wasn’t ideal.

However, the space in the two-seater flying car was limited. If they sat together, given Hebrew Adam’s height, they would be sitting very close. For some reason, Ruo Manni felt that being that close to Hebrew Adam would make her uncomfortable, and she didn’t want to force herself into that situation.

After all, barring any unforeseen circumstances, they would be collaborating as teammates for the next three to four years. Ruo Manni felt that if there were some things she didn’t want to force herself into, it was better to express them from the start.

Over time, they would naturally get used to each other’s ways of doing things, which would make conflicts less likely to arise.

However, judging by the previous special training, her teammates seemed to have a somewhat clear understanding of her character, as none of them showed any unusual expressions.

Su Forty-Three even took the initiative to ask Hebrew Adam, “Can the captain sit with us?”

The prince didn’t change his expression and waved his hand in acknowledgment. Su Forty-Three quickly hopped into the car, and Ruo Manni really wanted to turn around and give him a thumbs up.

After the other four settled into the flying car, Tino Venamoinen and Tamaki Kazia also summoned a two-seater flying car.
