Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 210 - Knowing the Inside Story

Ruo Manni was unaware of the turmoil happening on Topaz Star and Capital Star. After enduring the beast tide, she finally relaxed, feeling as though she could sleep forever without any issue.

However, just as she was in a blissful state of half-wakefulness, not wanting to get up, a fly suddenly buzzed around her ear, making an unbearable noise.

“Sheila, you’re so noisy! Who let you into my room?” Ruo Manni said weakly, feeling irritated.

“Do you know how long you’ve been sleeping? You’ve slept for twelve hours! Everyone else is up, and you’re the only one still lying in bed. Do you even care about your reputation?” Sheila seemed to catch Ruo Manni in a vulnerable moment and teasingly said.

“Can that thing be eaten?” Ruo Manni replied lazily.

“Manni, get up quickly! Something big has happened. Instructor Dudley is looking for you!” Mina-Olli said gently.

Something big? Ruo Manni suddenly sat up straight in bed, startled. “Did the beast tide erupt again, or has someone discovered our identities?”

“Neither,” Sheila said sympathetically, looking at Ruo Manni. “You have no idea. Those assassins have gone crazy trying to earn the bounty of one hundred million credit coins on your head. Now there are messages all over the network claiming you and the Second Prince have already been assassinated.”

“When we got up and saw that news, we were shocked. Sheila even rushed into your room to check on you to feel at ease,” Mina-Olli added.

“I thought Sheila was just messing with me, so I didn’t bother to pay her any attention,” Ruo Manni shot Sheila a glance.

She certainly knew what Sheila had done when she rushed in and then rushed out.

“Me and Hebrew being assassinated? What kind of act is this?” Ruo Manni felt that hearing the news of her own death upon waking was far too shocking.

“The assassination took place on Desolate Star, shortly after the beast tide had just ended. While everyone was retreating from the battlefield, the girl and boy who were killed in the western part of the Desolate Forest really resembled you and Hebrew. This assassination was definitely aimed at you and Hebrew,” Mina-Olli explained.

“Did the assassins get the wrong people?” Sheila speculated, though she herself didn’t fully believe this guess.

“How could they have learned about our itinerary, infiltrated Desolate Star, and dared to kill people within the military only to get the wrong targets so easily?” Mina-Olli said irritably.

Ruo Manni also didn’t believe that those assassins had mistaken their targets; it was easy to deduce that this was just a trap.

The western part of Desolate Forest…

The Wolf God Mercenary Group was located at the eastern battlefield of the Desolate Forest.

Ruo Manni then remembered that after the battle ended yesterday, she had seen on the map projection that all the puppets had gone west into the forest. Had those people received some kind of information?

Ruo Manni immediately opened her light brain and clicked on the link that Hebrew Adam had sent her yesterday. She discovered that Hebrew Adam had not revoked her permission to share, so she opened the link, and the map projection of Desolate Star instantly appeared before her eyes.

Upon closer inspection, she noticed that the yellow light dots representing the puppets had dwindled to just a few; only a couple remained in the city area, and there were none at the forest’s edge.

Had the more than a hundred puppets she saw yesterday left Desolate Star, or had they been eliminated during the assassination?

“What are you looking at?” Sheila asked curiously.

Ruo Manni didn’t share the information; even though Sheila and Mina-Olli were close by, the projections they could see were just an indistinct blend of colorful lights.

“It’s a secret,” Ruo Manni replied calmly.

This was something that should not be casually shared, and she also didn’t have sharing permissions; that authority rested with Hebrew Adam.

When Sheila and Mina-Olli heard Ruo Manni say this, they understood it was confidential information that should not be disclosed, so they shifted the topic and didn’t feel disrespected by it.

In their family education, reading facial expressions and assessing the situation was an important lesson; military personnel also had rules against inquiring into secrets that they should not know.

Ruo Manni opened the SkyNet again to check on the major events that the two had mentioned. As soon as she clicked in, information about her and the Second Prince being assassinated popped up immediately, indicating just how hot this topic was.

Ruo Manni felt a mix of emotions; who wouldn’t feel unsettled waking up to find that the world had changed overnight, and that they had been reported as “dead” to everyone?

Watching the video of the two who had disguised themselves as her and Hebrew Adam, only to be attacked and killed, sent a chill down Ruo Manni’s spine. The video was quite short, only showing the critical moments, but under such an assault, those two young people had probably truly been killed.

“Are they really dead?” Ruo Manni asked.

“We’re not sure either; this information has all been uploaded to the SkyNet, and no one has come forward to confirm anything,” Mina-Olli replied.

“Hebrew should know something; I noticed his expression didn’t change at all earlier,” Sheila said.

“Let’s go ask him,” Ruo Manni said as she got out of bed.

If Hebrew Adam showed no signs of surprise, then he clearly knew more about the situation.

In the command hall, the two instructors were nowhere to be found, leaving only the nine boys from the elite class.

As Ruo Manni stepped out, she overheard Dean Atchison analyzing, “…that black-haired girl, if you look closely, doesn’t really resemble Ruo Manni; she should be taller. That boy is the opposite; he is shorter than Hebrew by a few inches and looks a bit older than Hebrew as well. The only similarities between them are their hair color and age.”

This guy observes very carefully.

“There aren’t any clear photos of us in the outside world. For people like us, any photos that circulate on SkyNet will automatically display in a blurred state. At most, you can only see the general hair color, body shape, and age,” Hua Deli said, surprisingly talking so much.

“We haven’t been on Desolate Star for long. How did those assassins know our whereabouts, and how did they determine that they were killing Hebrew and Ruo Manni?” Su Forty-Three said anxiously.

“Look at the video; those young people who were assassinated were wearing military uniforms. They are all soldiers sent to Desolate Star to fight against the beast tide, right? For them to be killed by assassins is just too terrifying. And here, look at this video; don’t those soldiers look a bit like us?”

Hearing Su Forty-Three’s words, everyone clicked on the video to look closely.

“Doesn’t this one look a lot like me? This female soldier looks like Mina; this one is like Hua Deli; and this one is Kazia? What is going on here?” Dean Atchison immediately noticed something.

Having one or two people who look similar is one thing, but with so many coincidences, it can’t just be a coincidence anymore. The crowd turned their questioning gazes toward Hebrew Adam.

They were analyzing the situation, but Hebrew Adam remained silent, his expression was light, suggesting that he likely knew something.

Hebrew Adam looked at Ruo Manni as she stepped out, and as soon as she saw his gaze, she understood that he truly knew the inside story.

“Did those people intentionally disguise themselves as us?” Ruo Manni asked directly.

Hebrew Adam nodded.
