Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 189 - Affected and Pretentious

Hua Deli had been absorbed in his own thoughts, mostly focusing his attention on Ruo Manni, and was so distracted that he barely noticed the Second Prince’s gaze.

Mina-Olli, however, was on edge, not only because of her discovery but also because of the Second Prince’s gaze.

Mina had always known that the Second Prince was not to be trifled with, but from a distance, it wasn’t obvious. Today, she found that the Second Prince was truly intimidating.

The Second Prince, Hebrew Adam, had not said a word. Initially, when he noticed Hua Deli staring at Ruo Manni, there was a fleeting sharpness in his eyes, but it quickly disappeared. Afterward, he simply watched Hua Deli and Ruo Manni quietly, which Mina found even more unsettling.

Mina did not dare to remind Hua Deli in such a situation, so she tried to find opportunities to speak with him, hoping to draw his attention away from Ruo Manni.

Fortunately, after half an hour, the video screen on the wall of the spacecraft, which had been displaying continuously, showed that their spacecraft was flying into the palace.

Mina sighed in relief; they had finally arrived, and she could finally relax. She was thinking about how she might talk to Hua Deli about it when the chance arose.

The Second Prince finally turned his gaze away, stood up, and walked to the spacecraft’s door. After checking the situation outside and confirming it was safe, he opened the door and gestured for his companions to disembark.

Hebrew Adam’s serious and cautious attitude initially caused the elite class to wait silently and on edge. Once Hebrew Adam signaled that they could disembark, everyone immediately proceeded to the spacecraft door as if nothing was amiss.

For Ruo Manni and Sheila, who were eagerly admiring the scenery, the half-hour passed in the blink of an eye. They hadn’t finished looking at the view outside the window; they had only seen half of it before they arrived.

Mina-Olli heard Ruo Manni lamenting to Sheila about how quickly they had arrived and how they hadn’t seen all the scenery.

“We can still see it on the way back; we’ll have time to finish looking,” Sheila reassured her.

Mina-Olli, who had been anxiously waiting the entire time, felt like she might burst with frustration. Not wanting to be with these two clueless girls, she quickly disembarked from the spacecraft.

Ruo Manni, with Sheila in tow, followed Mina-Olli off the spacecraft. Sheila, somewhat belatedly, whispered to Ruo Manni, “Why does Mina seem a bit unhappy?”

Ruo Manni’s lips curled slightly. Although she had appeared to be focused on the scenery, she was actually aware of Hua Deli’s gaze and confusion.

Ruo Manni thought Hua Deli was too blunt and unreserved to stare at a girl in front of his fiancée. She was relieved that Mina-Olli had such a good temperament. However, due to reasons she couldn’t mention, Ruo Manni didn’t mind adding a bit of discomfort for Hua Deli. So, she innocently said, “Mina was sitting and talking with Hua Deli throughout the flight.”

Ruo Manni’s whisper wasn’t very quiet; it was clearly heard by the boys in front and behind them, including Hua Deli.

Seeing Ruo Manni and Sheila’s close interaction, Sheila understood what was going on and spoke a bit louder, “It must be that Hua Deli said something that offended her. Hua Deli can be a bit clueless and doesn’t really know how to comfort girls. After all, Mina is his fiancée.”

Hua Deli didn’t realize that Ruo Manni was trying to irritate him with her words. He looked at Mina-Olli, puzzled. He didn’t think he had said anything inappropriate. Should he ask what was going on or apologize to Mina?

Seeing Hua Deli’s worried expression, Mina-Olli’s mood improved significantly. He might be clueless, but his concern for her had been growing over the past few months.

As her mother had said, as long as no romantic rival appeared, their feelings would naturally deepen with time, especially since they were now classmates and teammates spending so much time together.

The prince’s spacecraft, having privileges within the palace, didn’t stop at the designated visitor area but instead flew directly into the inner palace’s landing area.

Therefore, the elite class disembarked from the spacecraft, walked through a single defensive arch, and entered the flower hall where the banquet was being held.

As the name implies, the flower hall was divided into an open hall and a garden. The garden was filled with a variety of blooming, colorful flowers.

Then, the Cinderella story of the country bumpkin began. Ruo Manni was absolutely enchanted by the flowers. These exquisite and beautiful blooms, not something an ordinary person could cultivate, were so stunning that she found it difficult to move through the garden, her eyes constantly darting around.

Fortunately, she was walking arm-in-arm with Sheila. Although Sheila maintained her ladylike demeanor, she would give Ruo Manni a nudge if she slowed down, ensuring Ruo Manni didn’t lose her composure and stop abruptly.

When they reached the open hall, Ruo Manni was even more captivated. She couldn’t find the right words to describe the palace hall; it was, in summary, a blend of high-tech and luxurious styles, an opulent beauty that was overwhelming.

The luxury and grandeur of the place were built with credit coins. After all, the Gus Empire had only one king and one palace, unique and unmatched. Even ordinary nobles didn’t have the opportunity to visit, so Ruo Manni took in the beauty with great appreciation.

Ruo Manni was unconditionally in love with beauty. She appreciated the natural beauty of landscapes, but she also adored the opulent and luxurious splendor, recognizing it as a different kind of beauty.

Although Hebrew Adam returned with his companions, he had responsibilities to attend to and couldn’t stay with them for the entire time.

The other companions were fine; even if they hadn’t attended such high-level banquets before, they had been to smaller ones. Only Ruo Manni, who was unfamiliar with such events, concerned Hebrew Adam, so he turned around to give her a few instructions.

However, he found his companion admiring the palace scenery with such obvious appreciation and delight that he momentarily forgot what he wanted to say. The thought that crossed his mind was that Ruo Manni was truly an unpretentious girl, consistent inside and out.

His mother was notorious for her love of luxury and extravagance, so her banquets always featured various opulent items. Many people privately criticized her for this, and there were numerous comments online.

Hebrew Adam had seen many girls attending his mother’s banquet for the first time. When these girls saw the various luxury items, they showed clear desire but acted pretentiously aloof and disdainful, and some even used subtle sarcasm to display their supposed high moral standing.

In the past, Hebrew Adam’s potential for cultivation was mediocre and overshadowed by his older brother’s brilliance. As a result, many people did not think highly of him or his mother, so he often overheard disparaging remarks unintentionally.

Those girls actually desired this luxurious lifestyle just as much. They went to great lengths to try and attract his older brother, aiming to become the Crown Princess, and even “stooped” to flatter him in hopes of using him to get closer to his brother. Yet, they insisted on putting on a pretentious, high-and-mighty facade, which Hebrew Adam found extremely distasteful.
