Chapter 186 - Dressing Up
Since obtaining the specially designed gaming pod for War Realm, Ruo Manni has not only had no opportunity to visit the little imp at her bedside but has also forgotten what insomnia even means. All she experiences now is sleep deprivation.
She still teams up in War Realm to tackle dungeons. Mina-Olli had two delays due to accidents, but today she has finally reached level ten. Her teammates are very happy because the dungeon they’re grinding requires two psychics to cooperate in order to clear it.
The night passed in a hurry, and as Ruo Manni emerged from the gaming pod, a new day began.
Today is a special day because she is going to attend the Queen’s birthday party and experience the highest echelon of this world.
Since it’s an evening event, there’s no need to start preparations early in the morning.
Although this day happens to be a holiday, and everyone doesn’t need to prepare for classes on time, the elite class students, who are accustomed to training daily, felt uneasy after not training for a day. They didn’t need the instructors to wake them up; they got up in the morning and began their training as usual, only starting their personal preparations afternoon.
Mrs Hua (Lixi Amber) prepared two colors of evening gowns for Ruo Manni: one is a soft, slightly bright yellow, and the other is a fresh, light green.
Both colors are ones that Ruo Manni likes. The two evening gowns are similar in style, with only the color differing. After considering it, Ruo Manni chose the yellow one, deciding that she wanted to wear yellow today.
The dress has an automatic adjustment feature, so as long as the size is roughly correct, it will automatically adjust to fit properly once worn.
The skirt, which is fitted at the top and wide at the bottom, falls just above Ruo Manni’s knees. The wide, pleated hem is very practical. She straps a cold light gun to the outer side of her left thigh and a leaf-shaped flying knife to the outer side of her right thigh. With the skirt covering these items, no one can see the weapons on her thighs from the outside, and they do not affect her movement.
However, carrying the leaf-shaped long sword and long whip is inconvenient. Ruo Manni puts her two most frequently used items into the jade pendant space. Her other cold light gun is always kept in the jade pendant space. She never stores crucial items in a spatial device.
In her past life, Ruo Manni watched many fantasy sci-fi films, and she vividly remembers a common plot where, at critical moments, spatial devices or storage bags fail to open, making it impossible to retrieve life-saving items, which would frustrate her as a viewer.
In this world, spatial devices do have this flaw. If an enemy targets it with an interference device, the spatial device cannot be opened. Therefore, everyone is accustomed to carrying life-saving weapons with them rather than storing them in spatial devices.
Ruo Manni is unsure if her jade pendant space would be affected by interference devices. She never relies on luck and always carries life-saving weapons on her person.
Ruo Manni had just put on a pair of earrings yesterday. The earrings can change color, but the range of colors is limited to a few basic ones.
Ruo Manni adjusted the earrings to white. The combination of yellow and white looked somewhat charming, while black seemed too somber for a young woman, and plain yellow was too monotonous.
For her hairstyle, Ruo Manni referred to the styles used by noble young women at banquets. She decided to add some accessories to her bun to enhance its appeal.
Even at a noble banquet in this world, simplicity and understated luxury are valued in both clothing and hairstyles, so it was effortless for Ruo Manni. The accessories given by Mrs Hua’s were very in line with the understated luxury principle. Ruo Manni just needed to fix her bun and attach the accessories—there was no technical difficulty involved.
As soon as Ruo Manni finished, Sheila came to knock on the door. Knowing that Sheila occasionally liked to take on a motherly role with her, Ruo Manni went over to open the door.
Seeing Ruo Manni’s outfit, Sheila’s eyes lit up. She looked Ruo Manni up and down, her eyes showing a hint of satisfaction, but she said, “Not bad. I thought you wouldn’t dress up. Besides your battle gear, you always wear such plain clothes that hurt our eyes.”
She had come to help, fearing Ruo Manni wouldn’t know how to dress up, but her words were unforgiving.
Ruo Manni thought to herself that she would never be the main character. This was the cruel supporting character who always goes against the heroine. Even after just a few months, she had genuinely become her good plastic sister. How could she possibly have the fate of a heroine?
“You look great in this dress; it adds at least three points to your attractiveness,” Ruo Manni complimented Sheila candidly.
Sheila hesitated for three seconds, checking Ruo Manni’s expression twice before she was sure that Ruo Manni’s words were genuine praise. She had been misled by Ruo Manni’s veiled comments too many times to take her words at face value without careful consideration.
“Can’t you just say outright that my dress is beautiful and makes me look even more attractive?” Sheila responded with some dissatisfaction.
“It’s already good enough that I’m giving you a compliment. You shouldn’t ask for more,” Ruo Manni said, playfully arguing as usual.
Ruo Manni glanced at Sheila’s form-fitting dress, which had a slit up to the middle of her thigh, showcasing her figure and giving her a rare, youthful sensuality.
“With a dress like that, where do you hide your weapons?” Ruo Manni couldn’t help but ask.
Sheila shook the handbag she was holding. That reminded Ruo Manni that she should also have a handbag. With it, she could store the long whip and life-saving potions inside.
At that moment, Mina-Olli came over from the neighboring training hall to find Ruo Manni. After confirming their attendance at the banquet yesterday, she had been even more considerate and attentive than Sheila. She had discreetly messaged Ruo Manni earlier, asking if she wanted to order a dress together.
Ruo Manni realized that Mina-Olli was actually a very considerate girl. Her visit now had the same purpose as Sheila’s: to see how Ruo Manni was managing things to avoid any mistakes that might cause others to underestimate her.
Ruo Manni appreciated her friends’ goodwill and did not feel they were underestimating her; she simply felt well cared for.
The boys had also taken off their usual battle gear. Except for Hebrew Adam, who needed to return to the palace to change into the gown prepared by the queen, the other boys were all wearing identical black suits that they had agreed to order together.
As elite young men, they all exuded a vibrant energy. Since they were all cultivators, each had an excellent physique and good looks. A group of such young men was truly dazzling.
Among them, the most eye-catching were Hebrew Adam, Hua Deli, and Dean Atchison. They were notably more handsome than the others, but their most striking feature was their commanding presence. The elite disciples carefully trained by the royal family and prestigious families were inherently different from ordinary families and certainly incomparable to commoners.
When Dean Atchison saw the three girls from his elite class come out, his eyes lit up. He couldn’t help but whistle playfully and exclaimed, “Wow! Where did these three beautiful women come from?”
Dean Atchison’s comment was met with agreement from the first-year elite class boys: “We never realized before that such beauties were right beside us.”
