Chapter 150 - Secret Glances

Seeing Aoi Dan stealing shy glances at Hebrew Adam, Ruo Manni felt a shiver down her spine and a hint of nausea.

In the novel, Aoi Dan is always in love with Hua Deli, clinging to him like a dogged follower, always seeking opportunities to be close to him. So what is she doing now?

Could it be that Aoi Dan has realized that the Second Prince is more powerful and prestigious than Hua Deli, and thus changed her object of affection?

As expected of a reborn woman who has experienced so much, that kind of bashful admiration is truly enticing. Young people might find it hard to resist such subtle affection.

Ruo Manni gritted her teeth. Aoi Dan’s tactic was indeed ruthless. If Hebrew Adam were to fall for her, it would be like a fire in the backyard for Ruo Manni.

But no matter how much Ruo Manni hated it, Hebrew Adam was not someone she could control. In the novel, Hebrew Adam is a charming prince known for his flirtatious behavior, and who knows if he would pass up an opportunity presented to him?

Ruo Manni had to keep an eye on Hebrew Adam, who was directing Su Forty-Three and Tamaki Kazia to tidy up the capsule apartment. At first, he didn’t notice the covert glances.

After a while, Hebrew Adam seemed to sense something. He turned and looked towards the campfire, making direct eye contact with the subtle glances.

Ruo Manni watched closely. After Hebrew Adam saw the shy smile from the girl, he turned his gaze away as if he hadn’t seen it, leaving Ruo Manni unsure whether he actually noticed.

Looking at Aoi Dan, Ruo Manni saw that she now had a frustrated expression as if she had thrown her advances away, which eased Ruo Manni’s mind slightly.

However, this did not mean that the matter was resolved. Aoi Dan was unlikely to give up so easily. If it were someone else, Ruo Manni wouldn’t care, but she absolutely did not want to see Aoi Dan succeed in pursuing Hebrew Adam…

To put it correctly, Ruo Manni didn’t want her four male companions to get involved with Aoi Dan, or else she wouldn’t be able to find peace for the next four years.

Ruo Manni felt as if she had swallowed a fly—disgusted and unable to get rid of it.

Fortunately, they were already packed and ready to depart. The other teams of military students traveling with them were still inactive, and even those on night watch were sitting by the fire, drowsy. No matter how affectionate Aoi Dan appeared, Hebrew Adam had no time to notice her.

Before entering the forest, Ruo Manni glanced back at Aoi Dan, who was keeping watch by the fire. Whether intentionally or not, Ruo Manni couldn’t make eye contact with her, which only made her more certain that Aoi Dan was up to something.

Because Ruo Manni was preoccupied with this issue, she didn’t pay much attention to the depths of the forest.

Yesterday evening, when Adam’s team stood at the edge of the forest looking down the mountain, Sheila said that the descent should be easier than the ascent because the terrain of the forest didn’t look very rugged.

Now that they had entered the forest, Adam’s team found that it was indeed the case. Although there were no exotic beasts visible, there were small animals around, which eased their minds a bit.

The mountain forest journey from yesterday had left them with a lot of shadows.

Just as they relaxed, Adam’s team was caught off guard and almost surrounded by a group of exotic beasts.

Although the highest level among these beasts was only level three, there were simply too many of them—over one hundred and fifty.

Fortunately, being in the forest allowed Adam’s team to use the terrain to their advantage and fight a guerrilla war, attacking while running. They had to sprint for their lives through the forest when they could, and when they couldn’t escape, they fought their way out and then continued to run. They didn’t even have a chance to stop and eat along the way.

The only consolation was that Captain Hebrew Adam’s high combat skills helped clear the path, and with Ruo Manni using her telekinesis to control the battlefield, Adam’s team was able to break through the encirclement before being completely surrounded.

It was also fortunate that they were on the descent, so they didn’t need to navigate directions—just running downhill kept them on the right track.

“Those instructors are really ruthless!” Sheila said, panting.

After all the running and fighting, her hair was tangled and disheveled from the branches, almost looking like a mad woman.

Cursing the instructors was useless, and no one else joined in; they just gritted their teeth and continued to run.

When Adam’s team finally reached the foot of the mountain, everyone was nearly exhausted, though apart from the unfortunately unlucky Ruo Manni, who was injured again, the others only had minor injuries.

Around 3 p.m., Adam’s team finally arrived at the destination on the other side of the island.

Instructor Dudley had been waiting there for a while. Seeing the disheveled Adam’s team and Ruo Manni with a broken left arm, Instructor Dudley nodded and said, “You are the first team to finish, five hours ahead of schedule. You can enter the camp now.”

This was Ruo Manni’s second serious injury during the drill, and it was again due to Sheila. As one of the only two girls on the team, Sheila naturally accompanied Ruo Manni to the medical room.

“You really are out of luck, Little Ruo Manni,” the school doctor remarked, feeling genuinely sorry for her, as she had already been to the treatment room the most.

Apart from a helpless smile, there wasn’t much Ruo Manni could say. There was no “fortune-telling” for such situations in this world.

The medical technology in this world is highly advanced. After treating the smaller injuries on Ruo Manni’s body with a small medical device, the doctor wrapped a specialized treatment device around the broken area of her arm.

The doctor then carefully instructed Ruo Manni not to remove the device tonight and to come back in the morning for its removal. As long as she followed the instructions, her fracture would heal by tonight, though she should avoid using her arm too much for the next ten days.

Despite the severity of the fracture, Ruo Manni, due to her excellent physical condition, didn’t feel much pain. However, the persistent dull ache was still uncomfortable.

Naturally, the rest of Adam’s team insisted that Ruo Manni get plenty of rest. After drinking a nutritional supplement, she fell asleep immediately.

After ten o’clock at night, the entire camp became lively and bustling, as all the military academy students were gathered in this camp. Having slept for a while, Ruo Manni woke up to the noise.

She stepped out of her small room and saw the other five gathered in the small living room of the capsule apartment. They had all rested and looked quite energetic.

When Tamaki Kazia saw Ruo Manni, he pulled out a rubber gold bag from under their table and called to her, “Vice-captain, I’ve cooked the food we brought down from the mountain. Try it and see if I’ve learned your cooking skills.”

“It only has a hint of flavor. You’re boasting too much,” Sheila said disdainfully.

Tamaki Kazia didn’t retort and gave a somewhat shy smile.

After a nap, the dull pain from her broken arm was gone, suggesting that it had healed. With the pain gone, Ruo Manni’s mood naturally improved. Hearing that she was hungry, she felt her stomach growl.

When Sheila and Tamaki Kazia heard that Ruo Manni wanted to eat, they attentively arranged the food, being so considerate that they nearly served it to her themselves.
