Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 143 - The Big Thighs

After being thoroughly scolded by Instructor Dudley and the head instructor, Adam’s team was also forced to individually review their mistakes.

It wasn’t until this group of troublemakers received a deep lesson that the dark expressions on Instructor Dudley’s and the head instructor’s faces eased up, lightening a bit.

Ruo Manni immediately seized the opportunity to ask, “Instructor, what about our training exercise? Can we still continue? It was an unexpected incident; the mistake was with the school, not us. We shouldn’t have our scores canceled. If it weren’t for this incident, we would definitely have secured first place and earned a lot of credits.”

Students who need to earn a large number of credits while double-majoring are under significant pressure. Ruo Manni was counting on this training exercise to earn many credits. Now that they’re potentially out of the competition, they might not even rank in the top fifty.

The members of Adam’s team looked at Ruo Manni with sympathy. As top students, their credits were always ample, so they found it surprising that someone like Ruo Manni, who was always strapped for credits, would be so concerned about them after narrowly escaping danger.

Instructor Dudley, observing this student who had nearly fallen from genius to mediocrity, felt that his scolding had been pointless. The student’s concern seemed so disproportionate that it left him feeling powerless.

Was it possible for an adopted father’s traits to be passed on to an adopted daughter? There was no scientific basis for that.

If it weren’t for Hebrew Adam’s strong background and the fact that the Crown Prince genuinely cared for him as rumored, sending Doctor Paul to treat Ruo Manni at Hebrew Adam’s request, she might have had to consider suspending her studies by now, rather than worrying about credits.

Yet, she seemed as if she had merely had a good night’s sleep. Today, she had no issues at all, with her mind entirely focused on credits.

Seeing Ruo Manni’s reaction, Instructor Dudley, who had already scolded the students, could only tell her, “Yesterday, we instructed all the military academy students participating in the training to remain on standby.”

Ruo Manni immediately looked at the two instructors with bright, hopeful eyes.

The chief instructor, finding the conversation between the student and the instructors amusing, smiled and said to Ruo Manni, “Since the incident you encountered was not a normal training event, the school has classified it as an accident. Therefore, using firearms for self-defense is not considered a violation, and you can continue with the training. Your ranking is still temporarily in the first place.”

“Instructor, you are truly wise,” Ruo Manni said with a beaming smile, her entire demeanor radiating an indescribable excitement.

“Is it really that big of a deal? It’s just over a hundred credits,” said Sheila, unable to contain her irritation. Having known Ruo Manni for so long, she had never seen her so happy. It seemed out of character for someone who appeared so easily satisfied. “Did you take some sort of stimulant?”

Ruo Manni truly didn’t understand why Sheila seemed to enjoy seeking trouble. No wonder she found herself growing fonder of her.

“Didn’t you notice that I leveled up? My martial artist rank is now almost the same as yours. That’s what I’m excited about,” Ruo Manni said cheerfully.

Ruo Manni was genuinely happy because she was now officially clinging to the powerful ‘thigh’ of the Crown Prince, her cousin. He was her idol both in and out of the book, and after her rebirth, her idol not only turned out to be her real cousin but was also actively offering his support. This was teaching her how to be excited and happy.

And then there was Hua Deqi, another cousin, who was also a powerful figure and equally supportive. With such strong support from her relatives, what more could she possibly wish for in life?

She felt like someone who had been wandering alone in the darkness and had suddenly found an organization to belong to. Such emotions were beyond words.

Sheila, feeling extremely frustrated, turned and walked away, deciding she wouldn’t want to speak to Ruo Manni for at least three days.

However, Ruo Manni cheerfully grabbed Sheila’s hand and hugged it. Sheila was someone who was emotionally conflicted and skilled at being hypocritical and changing her attitude. Seeing Ruo Manni in such a good mood, she decided to tease and comfort her.

The four boys from Adam’s team were also somewhat stunned. Although Ruo Manni usually appeared gentle and refined, they were not so oblivious as to miss the coolness beneath her calm exterior.

Having spent a few months together, they had never seen her smile so genuinely. So, they too wanted to ask Ruo Manni if it was really worth getting so happy over just a hundred credits.

Hua Deli had been keeping an eye on the commotion outside all night, but even as dawn broke, he still hadn’t seen his cousin or noticed his spaceship leaving. He guessed that his cousin was still on the island handling matters related to the team led by Hebrew Adam.

As daylight began to break, since everyone had free time yesterday afternoon and evening, they rested well and got up early to move around.

As young academic elites, their lives, for as long as they could remember, consisted of either studying or training—they simply couldn’t sit still.

At this time, Hua Deli saw a familiar military ship slowly take off from the forested area at a speed several times slower than when it arrived. Within a few seconds, it disappeared into the clouds.

Then, the light brain device in Hua Deli’s hand began to beep, and everyone received orders to resume the training exercise in ten minutes.

“How are the Second Prince and Ruo Manni doing? Are they alright? Why hasn’t any instructor come out to explain the situation?” Dean Atchison said, feeling a bit frustrated.

Being stuck here with no information coming in is tolerable when nothing’s happening, but when things do occur, it becomes frustrating.

However, there was nothing they could do about the frustration. The members of Hua’s team packed up and entered the forest again, one after another, with Asimu’s team.

Dean Atchison didn’t know that just as they were moving deeper into the forest, the members of Adam’s team had disembarked from the military ship ten minutes later and began heading further up the mountain.

Above the forest was a vast expanse of large and small glacial lakes. This was Ruo Manni’s first time seeing a glacial lake up close. Under the bright golden light, the clear surface of the lake reflected a transparent blue, giving a feeling of tranquility and serenity.

“This place is so beautiful. If there were houses around here, it would be great to stay for a while and have a little vacation,” Sheila sighed.

Ruo Manni nodded in agreement. “The water is so clean; I’d love to go for a swim.”

“Don’t just focus on how beautiful the glacial lakes are. Some of those larger, deeper lakes might have dangerous beasts. It’s best to be careful,” Hebrew Adam warned with a frown.

Why were these two acting like they had no sense of safety? After he reminded them, they turned their heads away, not wanting to speak to him. What was that about? He didn’t even say anything wrong.

The members of Adam’s team carefully navigated around and arrived at a snow slope about three to four thousand meters from the summit.

White glaciers poured down from the mountaintop. Standing beside the glacier, Ruo Manni felt the sharp, icy cold rushing toward her. But then she heard a soft “click” from her protective suit, and a wave of warmth spread throughout her clothes, immediately dispelling the chill. However, their exposed heads and faces still felt the cold.

Everyone took out a hat from their backpacks made of the same material as their combat suits and put it on, leaving only their eyes exposed.

With their physical endurance and equipment, they were not afraid of the cold. However, the members of Adam’s team did not dare to be careless. They prepared thoroughly, thought through their action plan, and then proceeded onto the glacier river.
