Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 119 - Whispering

“Su Forty-three, Sheila, and Tamaki, you three go get the nutritional supplements. Tino, you stay here and keep an eye on the situation with the other teams. Once we’ve set up the camp, you can come back,” Hebrew Adam instructed, assigning tasks to everyone.

After finishing his instructions, Hebrew Adam gestured to Ruo Manni and pulled out a rainproof tarp from his backpack. “Let’s go find a spot to set up camp.”

Under normal circumstances, Ruo Manni would prefer not to get too close to Hebrew Adam, but since the prince had already spoken, she couldn’t refuse. She had no choice but to walk alongside him, both of them under the tarp.

The rain was heavy and the wind strong. The tarp could barely keep their heads dry, preventing the rain from hitting them directly, but most of their bodies were still getting soaked. Fortunately, their combat uniforms were waterproof, so the rain wasn’t a major concern.

Earlier, while in the medical pod, Ruo Manni’s previously drenched hair had dried. Despite the long day of activity, her bun was still tightly secured, with just a few stray strands falling loose.

Although Ruo Manni tried to maintain a distance of about ten centimeters from Hebrew Adam, he didn’t seem to notice. Whenever she moved away, he would unconsciously close the gap.

Hebrew Adam was much taller than Ruo Manni. At one point, without realizing it, he raised the tarp higher, causing Ruo Manni to be drenched by the rain that hit her face and head. She was left speechless.

The rain had been pouring for over three hours now, leaving puddles all around the camp area. Fortunately, the camp was on higher ground, preventing it from flooding.

The two walked side by side in the heavy rain for a while before they found a suitable spot near the camp, close to the edge of the forest. The ground there was slightly elevated, free of standing water, and fairly level.

After choosing the site, Hebrew Adam took out a capsule about the size of two fingers from his backpack and tossed it onto the chosen ground. The capsule split open, and a white substance rapidly expanded.

In less than fifty seconds, a 30-square-meter capsule apartment had formed. Two minutes later, the outer color of the capsule apartment had changed to blend perfectly with the surrounding environment.

Due to the strong sea winds, they needed to secure the four corners of the inflatable capsule apartment to prevent it from being blown away. Ruo Manni held up the tarp, standing on tiptoe to shield Hebrew Adam from the rain, while he used his foot to drive a 20-centimeter stake directly into the ground.

Just as they finished securing the second stake, Ruo Manni noticed a group of cadets emerging from the nearby forest, not far from the capsule apartment.

This group consisted of ten cadets, nine of whom were mid-level Tier 4 warriors. The only exception was the boy being carried on the back of a black-clad instructor, who was a late-stage Tier 2 warrior, and Ruo Manni could guess that he was telekinetic.

The group of cadets looked even more disheveled than Hua’s team, but they didn’t appear to be seriously injured. Aside from the telekinetic, the others were moving freely and didn’t seem to have any significant injuries.

Seeing an outstanding pair of cadets setting up a capsule apartment, the nine boys scrutinized the two of them closely. Hebrew Adam’s obvious mid-level Tier 5 warrior aura shone like a bright lantern, drawing most of their attention to him.

Even though young boys naturally have an interest in looking at beautiful girls, such a disheveled moment wasn’t the right time to indulge in such tendencies. Boys with aspirations were more likely to focus on strong and powerful opponents in such situations.

Given Hebrew Adam’s status and abilities, he was undoubtedly a prime target among the first-year students. Every ambitious boy dreamed of defeating and surpassing him, so it’s no surprise that many eyes were on him.

At that moment, Su Forty-Three and the others came over with the nutritional supplements. They were also holding waterproof cloths, and their clean, neat appearance formed a stark contrast with the ten disheveled cadets.

It really was a sight to envy, causing both jealousy and resentment.

“That’s the strongest team among the first-year students. Judging by the situation, they must have been on shore for at least half an hour.”

“As expected of the elite class. Even their telekinetic has such a high combat level, and she’s a beauty too.”

“This year, the elite class has two telekinetics and a female warrior, and all three of them are stunning. The boys in the elite class are really lucky…”

“With the Second Prince, Hua Deli, and Dean Atchison as the top three ideal husbands in the empire, the rest can forget about it…”

“But these guys are all from noble families. That genius telekinetic girl is from a civilian background, so maybe…”

“Don’t kid yourself. A girl with such talent and aptitude can’t be compared to ordinary noble ladies. Do you think she’ll still be a commoner after she grows up? She’ll be a noble in her own right…”

Ruo Manni could sense that Hebrew-Adam and Su Forty-Three were both glancing at her. Clearly, their ears were sharp enough to catch the whispered conversations of those cadets.

Ruo Manni felt a bit embarrassed. The other new students might not know this, but the truth was that, officially, the elite class only had two telekinetics. However, in reality, the other nine warriors were also training as telekinetics. Although they were only at levels one or two, they had sharper senses than warriors who weren’t dual-trained.

Those cadets thought they were far enough away, assuming their whispers wouldn’t be heard, so they felt free to speak boldly.

Ruo Manni and her companions had encountered this kind of situation before. She pretended not to hear, having gotten used to the fact that even boys like to gossip.

“Instructor Dudley isn’t back yet, and it’s not dark yet. Let’s go inside, drink the nutritional supplements, and rest for a while. We can check the situation again later,” Hebrew Adam suggested.

“I’m starving,” Su Forty-Three said.

In fact, everyone was starving. As soon as Hebrew Adam made the suggestion, they all headed towards the entrance of the capsule apartment.

Their specially designed combat suits were worth every penny. As they walked under the rain-shielded corridor extending from the capsule apartment, a simple press of a button activated the suits’ cleaning function. Within a minute, their entire bodies, including their boots, were clean and refreshed.

Ruo Manni, being well-prepared, pulled a dry towel from her highly waterproof backpack and dried her newly soaked hair before entering the capsule apartment.

The items provided by the Prince were indeed extraordinary. As someone unfamiliar with luxury, Ruo Manni couldn’t fully appreciate the high-end features of the 30-square-meter capsule apartment, but she could tell it was lavish.

The capsule apartment had four small rooms, which made Ruo Manni happy because it meant she and Sheila wouldn’t have to share a room. As for how the four boys would divide the rooms, that was none of the girls’ concern.

Hebrew Adam had sent out a quick message earlier, using a function on the school-issued smartwatch that allowed for close-range communication with teammates.

Soon after, Tino Venamoinen responded to the call and joined them.

After they ate the nutritional supplements and sat on the soft floor of the apartment, chatting about the situations of the other teams, they gradually began to feel sleepy.

Ruo Manni was also very tired and wanted to sleep, but as the deputy team leader and the team’s default intelligence officer, she knew she wouldn’t have to stand watch tonight. Since it wasn’t fully dark yet, she couldn’t just go to sleep, so she decided to get up, take a walk outside, and check on the other cadets.
