Call of duty one shots

Chapter 101: Gaz

The air in the dimly lit room hung thick with the scent of expensive whiskey and unspoken threats. Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, a name once synonymous with daring raids and calculated strikes in Task Force 141, was now synonymous with something else entirely: fear. He sat behind a mahogany desk, the polished surface reflecting the cold calculation in his eyes. He was the head of the "Seraphs," a sprawling network of organized crime that controlled half the city. The transformation from soldier to kingpin had been gradual, born from the ashes of betrayal and disillusionment.

His days in Task Force 141 were a distant echo, a ghost he tried to bury under layers of ruthless pragmatism. The faces of his fallen comrades, Soap, Ghost, Roach - they haunted his dreams, fueling his relentless drive to build a power base strong enough to never be vulnerable again.

He ran a hand through his closely cropped hair, the tension evident in the tight lines around his mouth. Across from him sat Marco, his consigliere, a man as sharp as a stiletto and just as dangerous.

"The Falcones are getting bold," Marco murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "They're encroaching on our territory, skimming profits from the docks. They think you've gone soft, Gaz. They see the ghosts of your past, think they can exploit your… sensitivity."

Gaz's jaw tightened. Sensitivity. A word long erased from his vocabulary. He picked up a heavy, antique paperweight, the cool weight a comforting presence in his hand.

"Sensitivity," he echoed, the word dripping with icy disdain. "Tell the Falcones… remind them what happens when they mistake kindness for weakness."

He didn't need to elaborate. Marco understood. Violence was the language of this world, and Gaz spoke it fluently.

Later that evening, Gaz found himself on the rooftop of his penthouse, the city lights glittering below like fallen stars. He took a long drag from his cigarette, the nicotine a temporary balm on his frayed nerves. The city was his domain, a chessboard where he moved pawns and knights with deadly precision. But tonight, the game felt… tedious.

He thought of Soap, his brother in arms, always ready with a joke, a smile. He imagined what Soap would think of him now, this man draped in silk and soaked in the blood of his enemies. Disappointment? Disgust?

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. Not Marco, not one of his enforcers. It was Anya, a woman he had taken under his wing after her father, a rival boss, had been eliminated. She was young, intelligent, and fiercely loyal, a reflection of himself in his younger days.

"Gaz," she said softly, "I saw you up here. You seem… troubled."

He scoffed. "Troubled? I'm running an empire, Anya. Trouble is an understatement."

"It's more than that, isn't it? You miss it, don't you? The camaraderie, the purpose…"

Her words struck a chord, a painful reminder of the man he used to be. He crushed the cigarette under his heel.

"That life is gone, Anya. Buried deep. I can't afford to look back."

"But can you afford to keep running from it?" she challenged, her eyes filled with a concern that felt strangely out of place in this world of cold ambition.

Gaz stared out at the city, a thousand stories unfolding below him, each one a tale of survival, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of power. He had traded one battlefield for another, but the fight remained the same.

He knew Anya was right. He was haunted by the ghosts of his past, trapped in a cycle of violence fueled by the desire for revenge. He had built his empire on a foundation of grief and anger, and it was slowly crumbling from within.

The question was, could he escape the monster he had become? Could he reclaim the man he used to be, or was he destined to remain Gaz Garrick, the mafia boss, forever bound to the darkness? The answer, he knew, lay hidden somewhere deep within him, buried beneath layers of hardened cynicism and the ghosts of a life left behind. And finding it would be the most dangerous mission he had ever faced.
